Nescafe Original Blend is just as good as Nescafe "Gold Blend" but for some reason it costs a lot less.

Just checked the tesco website and "original" is as low as £1.67/100g whereas "Gold Blend" is as much as £3.00/100g.

So nearly twice as much.

But nescafe original vs nescafe gold blend is a case of one granulated instant coffee versus another. If you want cheap & easy coffee seems very sensible to go for the "original" version at around half the price.

The quality of the instant Gold Blend has been slowly getting worse for years.
I gave up with instant a good while ago.
Get beans from the Co-Op now and grind my own. Much nicer. Great morning aroma too.

I prefer McDonald's Latte, it’s my daily fix.

We get Nescafe Original from Morrisons in 300gm jars (when they are on offer) usually £4 & 1/2 price as its normal price is £8 a jar.

If I'm having instant, it’s usually Millicano - their Decaf is pretty good too - in fact the only one I’ve found so far that I don’t mind!!

ALCAFE from ALDI beats Nescafe and it's £1.99 for 200 grams.

L'or intensive is the only drinkable instant @ around £5 a jar it's a bargain. Why drink crap to save a few pennies, lifes too short. Rolacola mentality.

Sto-mike was great. Living not far away as a kid, I used to pass their roasting (& presumably canning) place in that area where Trafalgar Rd meets Manchester Road- I loved the smell. I'm transported back to those times quite often nowadays as, on one of my regular walks, I go close by a coffee roasting place (/commercial coffee machine maker) and get exactly the same wonderful smell.
My parents never used instant coffee until a fair bit into the 1960s and I haven't used instant for at least 30 years now; much prefer to use "real coffee". I'm with you on Camp coffee though- that's awful.

An uncle of ours retired and moved to a Greek island in 2016. Every morning he would walk down to the same harbour front taverna and order a Greek coffee, it's like a triple espresso but thick as mud, and a 250ml carafe of raki. He'd sup them while chatting to the local fishermen, and many a time he'd order the same again. He died in 2018. See, coffee is bad for you.

We went to Petra, on the island of Lesvos a few years back, and there were several cafes/tavernas on the front where the older retired men would be there with their papers or playing Chess. We noticed that one particular establishment was considerably busier than all the others. Then the waitress walked out ..... an olive skinned vision of loveliness, complete with jet-black hair, stunning figure and a dazzling smile. In wartime, they'd have painted her on the side of a Lancaster. Even Mrs Clarets4me commented .....

What happens with the supermarkets is a company offers their excellent product. Supermarket offers to list their product. 3 months later supermarket says we want huge quantities. Then 3 months later another company has offered similar product for half the price.

So many companies go bust supplying supermarkets. As far as they are concerned there is always another supplier.

Well to throw my two bits worth in the ring im a bit of a mellow birds man myself its made by DOUWE EGBERTS in the Netherlands, nice n creamy and tastes like the coffee tasted when i was a kid....im 66 yrs now lol, a large jar 200g is about £3-95 in Tesco .....aahhh smell the coffee .

They seemed friendly enough, although it seemed the resort was very quiet ... Thomas Cook used to fly direct to Mytilene from Manchester, we went there three times I think, the last time was with our friends John & Susan Cooper, who tragically died in Egypt in 2018 ...

Instant coffee is just garbage, period, but the point y’all are missing - it’s the milk. When is Britain going to wake up and get half and half into the franchises and onto supermarket shelves? Not having it makes even the best bean taste crap, never mind the instant stuff

Surprisingly, the kettle phenomenon has not really made much of an impact in the US. Loads of people don’t even own one, let alone an electric one. Usually stovetop only types if they do.

We got a FOHEN boiling water tap 18 months ago ... not boiling a kettle 6+ times a day noticeable on leccy usage ... makes great "Nescafe coffee" and when we use our Cafatiere for "proper coffee"

Kettle back in box for "just in case" emergencies
