Like Hebden Bridge but cheaper!

Can anyone recommend anywhere affordable that is in a nice area and is a 30 to 50min train journey from the Accrington/Burnley area?

It is for a 2nd home and needs to be either in a scenic inland area with things to do close like Hebden Bridge but preferably in an up and coming undervalued area!...

I know these areas are like gold dust but worth trying...

As mentioned, I and the wife love Hebden Bridge... Kendal is another favourite but we also love the coast as our dog loves it as well...

... So far, I have seen the Gauxholme Railway Viaduct near Todmorden as maybe a cheaper alternative to Hebden Bridge and other areas I see value is further up from Blackpool going towards Fleetwood...

North Wales and Morecombe with the new Eden Project being built there was an option but I probably missed that boat with the house price rises in both those areas over the last few years... I would also prefer somewhere a bit closer than those two or at least a straight easy train journey with no changes... An easy train journey up to 40 or 50mins from the Accrington/Burnley area is an important factor in this decision.

So basically I am looking for a 2nd home in a coastal or scenic inland area that can be in a quiet town but close enough to a more touristy area to eat out extra if we want to and with a budget between 130k to 180k that can buy me more than just an apartment or a tiny cottage!... A doer-upper type house is an option too if the location is fine.

TIA.

You're looking to buy a pad in a countryfide location because your "dog loves it"?
There's been an interesting shift of culture in recent years and exacerbated by 'lock down '. Suddenly everyone has a dog that is treated like an extra child.
In terms of locations, there's some of the 'classier' bits of Rossendale but choose carefully!

Here’s two outliers that once were looked down on, but seem on the up to me, Colne and Darwen

You won't pick anything up outside Burnley, Pendle or Hyndburn for that sort of money.

Terrace properties in Rossendale are now fetching between 200-300k in the better areas and the same most certainly applies to Skipton, Dales and South Lakes

Two pish poor towns where the property market is rock bottom compared to most of the country

Except the traffic is now awful it being one of the most polluted towns in UK for that reason and doesn't have a commercial railway connection.

I don't know the north much these days but Haworth looks like it has a few decent houses in that budget. Granted they're smallish and terraced but is that the kind of area you'd be looking for?

There's no such thing as an easy train journey to Burnley.

Instead of crowdsourcing your 2nd home investment proposition on a football message board, maybe start with a realistic budget and some of your own research.

On that budget you’d be in the back streets of Keighley

He's barking up the wrong tree with a budget of 130k/180k.

You know them well then do you? Think the OP wants something in their financial reach. I just thought they may fit the bill, like. Any clue what you recommend?

Geez, this message board is poisonous!...

... I must be a member of over 30 other website message forums and another 30 Facebook groups at least that I participate in continuously and in all types of genres... Not one of them is anywhere near as toxic as this one!... What the hell is wrong with you people?...

Thank you for the 10% of decent people that replied though.

Carnforth is cheap, has a station and its five minutes from the sea

I mean, its a s**thole, but its going to gentrify at a rate of knots now its between Kirkby Lonsdale and Arnside/Silverdale (the top two places to live in Northern England according to the Daily Telegraph)

Bit of an overreaction? Nobody has been outright nasty, and 90% of the posts certainly aren't 'toxic' in any shape or form. All I see is a bit of banter on a football message board.

There’s more going on over there than inskip & nicer walks, further up towards kettlewell/buckden the prices are higher.

Rossendale is the largest borough in England without a commercial railway station.
