As usual the away fans pub will be the Oddfellows Arms which is a short walk from the away end towards the town. Not a real ale pub but they have a large paved area with seating at the rear, and have always showed the lunchtime game on big screens and have a BBQ serving burgers and hotdogs.
Other pubs are of course available.

The most important game since Norwich which indeed was the most important game since Everton.

Another faff for train travel this one. No trains from Manchester to Euston, and no overground trains from anywhere to Watford.
My route is Manchester - Sheffield, Sheffield to St Pancreas then tube to Watford.

We are going by car but have usually done Manchester - MK - Watford - another nightmare again for travelling with bus replacement from MK to Watford.

Spoons / Moon on the high street is very away friendly too.

Yep, we normally do that route too but like you say, nightmare this time.
Given Watford is the only Saturday game left we are doing the train and driving to all the others.

The most useful information, ahead of the game, would be to know if the first XI will turn up for this one.

We’re getting the train as normal from Manchester to MK but then getting an Uber to Watford (£50). There’s four of us splitting the cost.

Is that 50 quid each way, presume its not a return cost?

For those going via London I wouldn't cut it too close. There are significant problems with the Metropolitan line (the only easy way to Watford from London that weekend) at the moment and there are current predictions that there will be a reduced service for the next six weeks

Car for us because of all the potential problems. Was bad enough last time using MK although we did manage to get a train back after the game, but impossible this time.

It's quite a long walk from the train station to the ground.
As you get near to the ground you will find a few cafes where you can get yourself the usual omelette and chips or burger and chips with coffee or coke etc. Always friendly Watford supporters go there as well.

Mini bus for us, we have a designated driver who is happy not to drink etc.
Any tips on parking would be great as the will all no doubt be trying to get merry on the way down to ease the pain and/or blur the vision...

It's been a few years since I've driven to Watford's ground but I once parked at the Hospital which is nearby. Not sure if you can do that now. I seem to recall that it took a while to get out of the Hospital car park after the game.
I would have thought there would be car parking areas along the way to the ground.

Presume you mean the underground station?
How long of a walk would you say?

Watford Junction train station is about a 20 minute brisk walk away from the ground.
Don't think the trains are running into Watford Junction though.

The underground station isn't that far, it's a bit nearer than the main train station. Probably about 20 minutes walk.

The hospital is next door so convenient if you can park there. Parking isn’t good though at Watford.

Queen's Car Park in the centre is ok. Don't park at the big Tesco - only 2 hrs free on a match day.

Ok thanks. The underground station is the only station open that weekend. The main station as you say, Watford Junction is closed anyway, as are all overground stations between Euston and Watford Junction.

Parking - Palace, Queens or Kings car parks which are all in the big shopping centre (Atria) in the town centre. They also have parking at Watford Girls School, just between the town centre and the ground. As mentioned, avoid the big Tesco. Ring road around the town centre is one way, and the traffic is always crap so be prepared for that!

Yeah £50 each way but we booked our trains for £22 each as we have a railcard and during the sale last week so is similar to what it would be if the journey was as usual or maybe even cheaper at £47 each.

Tube (Metropolitan Line) is running. There are some issues with it though at the moment so they're not as frequent as usual and you may need to change at some point on the line (probably Baker Street or Harrow on the Hill).

Car Parking
There are also some private match day car parks available at some industrial units near the ground, as well as the Watford Grammar School for Girls (WD18 0AE), which is close to the stadium and charges £10 per car and £15 per minibus. Around a five minute walk away is Chater Junior School on Addiscombe Road WD18 0ND) which also offers parking at £10 per car. This car park opens 1 hour 45 minutes before kick-off and closes 45 minutes after the end of the match.
As Vicarage Road is situated near Watford town centre, then visiting fans can use a number of town centre car parks which are within reasonable walking distance. On most of my visits I have parked in the Church multi-storey car park (which costs £1 per hour and is located on the inner ring road). John Peake a visiting Bristol City fan tells me; ‘We parked in the Church Car Park which is a pay on exit. Although it is an easy 15 minute walk from the ground, there were long queues to use the pay machines after the game and we had then queue again in our car to leave the car park. All in all, it took us about 45 minutes to get out and back onto the road’. Iain Bell adds; ‘There are some additional pay machines located outside the car park, by the High Street exit.’ Richard Sheppard informs me; ‘I parked in the intu shopping centre multi-storey, which cost £4 for four hours. It is approximately a 15 minute walk to the ground and was easy to get out after the game and back onto the M1’.
Peter Laggan informs me; ‘I parked in the Gade multi-storey car park on Rosslyn Road (WD17 1NA), which as a 15-20 minute walk away from Vicarage Road. It cost £1 per hour and was relatively easy to exit after the game had ended.’ There is also the option of renting a private driveway near the Vicarage Road Stadium via YourParkingSpace.co.uk. Also around a 20 minute walk away is Bromet Primary School on Oxhey Road (WD19 4SG) which costs £5. It opens two hours before kick-off and closes one hour after the end of the match.
Post Code for SAT NAV: WD18 0ER

Plenty of parking in the multi storeys around the Harlequin Centre but beware if you need a swift getaway - it is pay on departure and the queue to the solitary ticket machine in each location can be quite lengthy.

Anyone more local know if any works are an issue ? I had heard numerous rumours of travel disruption.

Only the underground is operating this weekend.
Overground line from Kings Cross/Euston to Watford Junction is closed.
The underground journey can take well over 1 hour particularly when having to change en route.
We are getting the train from Piccadilly to Milton Keynes then rail replacement bus from there to Watford Junction.

Thank you for that.
I can see that the TFL site shows the journey of around an hour so we will give enough time.
Seems to be St Pancras to Croxley about an hour total. Can then grab a taxi (or walk 40 mins) depending on time.
Cheers

Underground - Metropolitan line - is running but on a reduced timetable, which it's been on for weeks. Taxi from Croxley to the ground would take 5 minutes (but order ahead as there's no cab rank at the station), or you could also get a bus.
Parking at the Harlequin (now called Atria) - you can pay at the entrance/exit gate with contactless now, so no need to queue for the ticket machine. Traffic will still be rubbish though.

Isn't Croxley just the stop before Watford on the tube? What's the benefit of going there and getting a taxi rather than just continuing on to Watford?

Living on the Met line, this is my advice to get to Watford tube from kings cross / Euston. I dont know if the Met is running all the way this weekend as there are problems on the line due to wonky train wheels (honest). The TFL planner says the trains are running but I’ve not had the ‘weekend problems email’ yet. Planner is here
https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/
If there’s dramas then get yourself to Marylebone. Get a fast chiltern train to Harrow on the Hill (it’s still oyster), and then get the Met line to Watford. If the Met line is totally knackered, then get the Chiltern train to Rickmansworth and get either a bus or taxi.
Parking near the ground - I’d avoid the hospital and use one of the multi stories in the town. Avoid Tesco as you’ll get a ticket.

Absolutely no benefit. If the Met line is running then go all the way to the end of the line.
