"We Are the Longside" is an dreadful chant

Chants are supposed to be uplifting. Chants are supposed to inspire the team. Chants are supposed to be catchy.
This is none of those things. Apart from the preceding verse (which actually works as a chant) the dismal droning of this is dreadful. It's monotonous and dull.
Please let's start singing some proper songs again.

Blimey to add to the depression, we can’t sing either!

And stop clapping at a million miles an hour. There should be NO clapping in we are the Longside.

I love the chants and the singing, especially on away days. I join in a bit out of obligation.
But it's tuneless, it's monotonous and it isn't fun. We could sing something so much better.

Hmm it’s one of them that’s decent when it goes on for a while to build up the volume level.
We desperately need some new chants though that’s for certain

Depends whether you think the players register the words of the songs their fans are singing or whether they registered the fans are vocally backing them.
Be great if we had a better variety of catchy songs though

I actually agree with this.
1) the Longside doesn't exist
2) I can't see the logic about singing about a stand, it's bizarre
3) A non Burnley fan friend asked me my "why do you sing 'we are alongside Burnley', it's really lame". He is right.

We had seasons in the sun

Cos we lumped it forward fast.

No lamer than United singing “we are the Stretford Enders”.
Personally wish we’d rip off their Stretford End Arising song though. Love that.
I see the Longside arising
I see there’s trouble on the way

I see there’s trouble on the way

1) I've never seen Kenny Dalglish drinking in an alehouse I used to frequent.
2) It isn't just about the bricks and mortar of the stand though, is it. It's about the spirit of that stand, the stories, the atmosphere once created in it.
3) Okay?
It isn't amazing but there are way more songs to have an issue with than this one. It's one of the very few which is consistent, not overly reliant on swearing, and is about Burnley more than it's about Blackburn.

Dalglish used to drink down the Town Mouse on a Thursday evening which is where those first couple of lines came from. If you never bothered to go down there then maybe you shouldn't sing that bit of the song.

Heard a nice loud rendition of ‘Who’s that dying on the carpet…’ on the tv yesterday, which was lovely.

Spot on, its about tradition and spirit it's about being one of 1200 watching us beat Colchester on a dismal Tuesday night on the Turf in the 1980s

The Longside does exist because we (the fans) are the Longside. It doesn’t matter what stand is built or what name it is given.

The “Kenny” is Ken Furphy, the Manager of Blackburn when they dropped down to Division 3 and Burnley went back up to Division 1, hence the words “will we play Blackburn Rovers, no never no more”. It was never about Kenny Dalglish.

Don’t know why, possibly the sinking feeling I had all day, but the old Burnley chant to ‘Lord of the Dance’ popped into my head from the late 70’s early 80’s popped into my head yesterday afternoon.

Fao Rowls I missed a few actual attendance in 1986 was 1,696 a rare 2-1 win against the then league leaders. 51 away fans, I travelled up on their coach living in Essex at the time, Dark days.

Just to add, the last line of the original song should be "but I've heard of the Longside, Burnley", which makes the "We are the Longside" bit wrong.

I think that the song is a bit pointless and agree with the OP, also when speaking to supporters of other clubs most are unable to work out what is being sung and when told can’t see the point of it.
It’s a bit embarrassing tbh. UTC.

Is it just me who couldn’t give a toss whether the opposition fans can make out the words to the song, or what they think of it? Since we’re all in the mood to take football chants far too literally, how about the fact that some of our fans very obviously do care that ‘no one likes us’?

We should sing a proper anthem, something uplifting like Jerusalem.
Think if we made that our own then many more people would join in.

This is a great idea but you want something a bit more lively that Jerusalem. Maybe something like the Happy Days theme tune would be a good anthem to adopt and we could even change our mascot from a Bee to the Fonz

1) The longside does exist. It’s just got a sponsors name on it, along with the club calling it the north stand. If the fans call it the longside, then it’s the longside. The only stand name change I recognise in my lifetime is the bee hole end now being the Jimmy mac. Everything else is how it was when I first went on.
2) the name could also be used to collectively describe those who populate said stand.
3) he is wrong. We don’t sing “we are alongside Burnley”. I know that’s not his point, but I couldn’t resist…

I dont think having the Fonz as mascot would work for this song. Maybe the 1981 Elvis classic "This Old House" would work but Id still prefer Happy Days personally
