I was there, it was a wonderful feeling walking away from Maine Rd as Champions of England. It really struck home for me when we got home at about 2 am and my mum said to me and dad “well, I suppose we’ll have to think about getting tickets to watch Real Madrid on the Turf”
I suppose there may be one or two others who were also there that night, though my guess would be that most people on here would have been to young (or not born yet). And to think we are still in the top division is an an amazing achievement.

I was still five months away from my first game but I always remember my dad taking me down to the Turf to see them. I'm guessing it was when they did the tour around town with the trophy.

Always a strange date now for me, I lost my mum 18 years ago today, but I know she'd want me to remember what happened at Maine Road on this day in 1960.

I lost my mum and dad in the same week twenty years ago and to the end they were both clarets mad. At the end when they were too old to go on, they always wanted a match report from me or my brother about the games. True clarets.

A night I'll always recall fondly. Only just 8 years old, no way was I going to be allowed to be part of such a vast crowd. My brother went on a coach from Haslingden but I stayed at home. As far as I know there was no coverage at all of this momentous occasion. As I've said before on here I'd been allowed to stay up until we heard the final score. Round about 10 past 9 my dad went out, where I've no idea but he came back in a few minutes later and simply said 'we've done it'. No idea how he found out but it was good enough for a.football daft 8 year old.
I don't care that it was so long ago; for me as a little boy growing up in Rossendale they were magical times for the next few years and I savoured every minute of it.
Trevor Meredith was 'dating' a girl two streets away from us who I believe he later married. He apparently travelled on the bus from Burnley to see her: imagine the scorer of the goal to win the title doing that now.

My dad went to Maine Rd but like Silkyskills1, there was no chance of me going but I was also allowed to stay up until my dad arrived back home which, to me, seemed like the middle of the night. At first, he just stood there shaking his head which made me think we had lost. Then with an ear to ear grin, he just said “Champions”. I don’t think I slept a wink that night.

Remember my dad telling me all about going to Main Rd that day , dad and his brother had a coal round "borrowed " a load of park benches put them on the back of the flat bed waggon 4 to a bench about 16 in all on the back . Trimmed it up and drove to Manchester, crates of macky under the benches.
But hairy driving over the cobbles and tram lines round Main Rd .
As a 4 year old he took me down to town hall in Burnley to see the team later .

Happy memories of going to Maine Road with my dad, who was in his 40th season supporting the Clarets.
The atmosphere in the ground was really good but it was a tense match and, at the end, we still found it hard to believe that we had won the league.
It really hit us when we arrived home and my mum, a lifelong Blackburn Rovers fan, gave us a big hug and announced "Champions of England ----the Clarets!"

I was very fortunate 6 years later to be at Wembley when England became Champions of the World. Very happy memories indeed.

59/60 my first year going to Turf Moor.
Did not go to Maine road but vaguely recall hearing intermittent progress reports on BBC radio, probably the light service!

Went on a coach from Nelson. 15yo. On my own. Coach was late getting to Maine Road. Long queues at the turnstiles. Missed the first 10 minutes and the first goal. Can only remember their goal and ours, and then the nervous wait for full time. Nothing else. I don’t know how I found the coach back. The abiding memory was the journey back. Practically all along people were out applauding waiting for the team coach to pass. What a night. Like yesterday. John

Oh what a night. Never been one like it since and unlikely to be one again. As an earlier poster said the enduring memory is the drive home. Sunroof open on the car and me and my mate Steve Horrocks standing on the back seat with our heads out of the car. Once got to Rawtenstall the roads were solid with people cheering and waving. Still gives me the shivers and dewy eyes just thinking about it

Truly an amazing season for me and as a 16 year old being allowed by my parents to go on the train walk through Moss Side and stand in a crowd of 62000 mixed with Burnley City and Wolves fans was a true life time experience. Then get back home and be at school the next day chuffed to bits and bleary eyed.

I was 16 years old and went with my dad and grandad in a Burnley Express van. Grandad and I sat in the back on the wheel arch as we were accompanied by another Express employee. We couldn’t get near the ground to park so had to walk about a mile. When we arrived the queues were enormous. Dad and his colleague went in the players entrance so Grandad and I walked around the ground until I found a children’s entrance with a very small queue. Once I was in the ground I waited patiently for Grandad to get in and meanwhile a great roar meant we had scored. Then almost immediately Grandad emerged from the same turnstile I had used. He had bribed the attendant to let him through!
We went onto the back of the terrace and didn’t see very much of the game. However, when we scored the second goal there was a surge in the crowd and we found ourselves half way down the terrace with a better view. I don’t remember much more of the game but I do remember the journey home. We were just in front of the team coach and we were cheered all the way from Ramsbottom to the town hall. We stayed while Dad took his photos of the team on the balcony and the coach arriving and didn’t get home until about 2 am.
Next day was a superb time in our Blackburn St. Mary’s school as we celebrated over our Rovers pupils.
