Remembering former poster NUTZ

NUTZ was a regular poster but sadly was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and passed away a year later.
In 2014, we held a fundraising football match at Padiham in his memory and raised over £4,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support, the charity chosen by his family. We had a huge turn out on the day with a lot of money going into the bucket collection. We also had some donations and then there were our players who played against the Vintage Clarets. They all raised significant sums towards the total.
I've just dug out a pic of the players who took part that day - some still active members of this message board. There are times when running the message board can be crap and there are times when I'm so proud to be involved. This was one of those days when I was so proud.

That’s a great picture and I agree with your final sentence, that’s why this is such a good message board. Thoughts are with Nutz and his family. Just to add, the keeper looks a bit dodgy.

I knew Nutz and his missus well. They used to drink in the Rose and Crown when I was a regular in there, a lovely couple and he was a great guy. I remember being shocked at the time about his illness and even more shocked when he passed not long afterwards. Always sad to see good clarets leave us too young, but I have fond memories of him, especially seeing him at the Wembley play off final. Good lad.

I was brought up on the same street as his wife but only got to know NUTZ through the message board. Top lad and was so sad to see him deteriorate in his last year.
That day at Padiham was so special and I couldn’t believe how many turned up to watch.

Lovely chap.
He played his last of his cricket days at Padiham in the 2nds.
If I bumped into him in the street, you would be there for 20 minutes or so chatting.

I saw jdr on the Foodbank collection a few weeks ago. He doesn't look any different now.
I don't think I ever met NUTZ, but he sounds like a chap I would have got on well with.

Played football with Tony for a few years. He was a very agile and brave goalkeeper. So sad he passed away at the age he did.

Happy memories of Tony. Played footy against him in Sunday League and as others have mentioned he was always good for 10 minutes of mutual banter when we met in the street / pub. Last time I saw him was when I worked in local bank and he turned up to mend our photocopier. So sad that he was to leave us at such a young age. RIP Nutz.

Harsh! A few dodgy kicks that day but some fine shot-stopping…indeed this included being the first keeper in history to save from a one on one with John Deary…yes, newsworthy, indeed historical stuff!!

I never played football with Nutz, but I did play some cricket with him at one point. Later his line of work brought him into my workplace and we'd always have a good natter about the (not so) mighty Clarets. A really good guy who was certainly very, very passionate about the club.

It was a cracking day indeed. I'd had tonsillitis all week and felt awful but I made it down, nutmegged John Deary and lived to tell the tale. Still got the shirt I wore that day, still haven't grown into it.
Good guy was Nutz.

Here's the one with all the players on, unfortunately all the other photos got lost when my old PC crashed, a very memorable day it was.
Rest in Peace NUTZ.
