Raheem Sterling to be England’s most capped player ever?

Post by Milltown1882 » Tue Jun 07, 2022 7:45 pm

27 years old and his 75th cap tonight. The record is still Shilton at 125, surely cannot rule out Raheem breaking the record in a few years.

Given the sheer number of games England now play, you may well be correct, Rooney is the highest outfield player on 120, so he'll certainly have every chance of eclipsing that figure.

He's done well with injuries up to now

Can’t see it myself, heard he’s off to Chelsea this summer, guess it depends how much game time he’s getting

Think Bellingham will with some certainty, save for any career ending injury. He’s unbelievable and only 18.

Not sure. He’s a ****. Can’t see his attitude lasting that long.

Not sure what the above poster's beef with Bellingham is but he's a serious talent and a solid bet to get 100 caps for sure - hope he makes the right move when he leaves Dortmund.

I'd also throw Declan Rice in there. 30 caps at 23 and a guaranteed starter. England don't ask him to do quite as much as he does for West Ham but he is already world class and still improving. Think he's a lock for 100 caps if he stays fit too.

I’d be very surprised if he’s around long enough tbh. We should be building a team around Foden. Out of all of the current squad, he’s the one who gets the most juice flowing. Grealish a close second. He terrifies defenders.

Rice is a superb talent, if he’s used right. Simply picking a player because he’s ripping it up weekly for his club, then asking him and those supporting him to do it differently for the national side simply nullifies the selection. Utterly pointless from GS. He’s not on his own tho, loads have done it in the past…. Anyone remember scholes in left midfield because FF and the Scouser simply HAD to play?

Bellingham? Jury’s out for me, like it is with Saka. Both a bit like Sterling… lots of buzzing around, nowt else really happening.

We need setting up differently. Unfortunately, i think GS hasn’t really got much of a plan. Sure he changes things and introduces new players but the wrong ones in the wrong positions for me. He also tries to be far too clever for his own good. I’d like him to set a team up to win a game, as opposed to trying not to lose it.
Sometimes, you’ve just gotta let players play. The current crop of England players SHOULD be the European champions, and it’s the fault of one man that we aren’t.

What a strange comment. 14 caps for England at the age of 18. Starts for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and UCL. But apart from that.. yeah he’s ****

I love his attitude. Gives him the confidence to play how he does on the pitch at such a young age.
