Club Captain
Not sure if it’s already been a thread but with Ben Mee looking likely to leave, who would your choice for Skipper be?
Would be Brownhill for me.

Interesting one, would definitely not be Brownhill for me but we don't know which players we will have next season so difficult to know where to start.

I suppose it depends on who Kompany brings in.

With who we currently have who is likely to start every game, it would be Collins
Despite being young he has already experience being captain at Stoke

Taylor maybe, if for no other reason that he seems likely to play every game.
Cork, if he stays, or Westwood will be higher up the pecking order though, I would've thought.

Assuming the likely leavers leave, it would probably have to be Westwood if fit, but otherwise Henessey in my book.

Will be class in the championship and he’s captained before - seems a good lad.

Re: Club Captain
Unless Collins is sold pre the window closing, I would pick him, unless that is Mee stays (which I doubt). He IS the future and that gives him a feeling of worth. It has to be a player likely to be starting every match.
Re: Club Captain
Maybe Kompany will bring someone in with captains qualities/experience like we did with Jason Shackell but nobody really stands out in our squad right now…Westwood maybe

I think Brownhill would be a captain who leads by example. He’s been active in the community as well. As a few have said, it depends on incoming players but I’d like to see him given the chance.

I think Kompany will sign a captain - Josh Cullen.
If Mee and Cork leave I do not see anyone within this squad who I feel is correct for the role (although, we have no idea how they are within the dressing room really). Brownhill doesn't strike me as much of a leader, though I think he will have a good season for us.

Re: Club Captain
He'd be one of the first names on the team sheet for me, proven at this level, and he was one of the few who actually showed improvement in his games last season.
Though whether I'd make him captain I doubt, Collins for me if we can persuade him to stay.

But if we're building a system and foundations to return there, I'd rather we went up with untried young quality players than tried and tested Brownhill who we've all seen is out of his depth at that level.
If we go up again, he needs replacing immediately, may aswell replace him now.

Re: Club Captain
I understand your thinking, but it's asking an awful lot to overhaul our whole starting XI in one window, not least because we won't have much money to play with.KRBFC wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:54 pmBut if we're building a system and foundations to return there, I'd rather we went up with untried young quality players than tried and tested Brownhill who we've all seen is out of his depth at that level.

And if you want the squad ripped up and rebuilt fine, but I wouldn't harbour hopes of promotion next season, now if you're happy to allow Kompany to mould a younger side, who might be ready to mount a promotion challenge the season after then great, but such a project will likely require patience, as he won't be able pull it off overnight in all likelihood.
This is why we will need to retain a small core of experience, I'm all for promoting youth, as that's an area we've neglected for far too long, but alongside youth we will still need experience as well.
Re: Club Captain
GK and back 4 is fine with 1 CB addition. Wide players are fine providing no1 leaves.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 3:17 pmI understand your thinking, but it's asking an awful lot to overhaul our whole starting XI in one window, not least because we won't have much money to play with.

CM and ST has to be the priority areas, with Cork/Rodriguez kept as cover. Not quite the overhaul you mentioned.
I want to see a new core, not the same old same old washed up players who've been failing for too long.
Re: Club Captain
That depends on the formation of course. But a complete overhaul is what is needed, the last 10 years have been great, but a new chapter now.KRBFC wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 3:24 pmGK and back 4 is fine with 1 CB addition. Wide players are fine providing no1 leaves.

Re: Club Captain
Seems to me like we're intent on keeping the same old over the hill players around just to save money. I hope we don't see Rodriguez/Barnes and Cork/Brownhill partnerships.

It is going to take some a lot longer than others to get to a level of understanding on how a clause in a contract works.

Re: Club Captain
Brownhill has already captained a team in the Championship. He's my current choice. Collins it too young and not enough experience
Re: Club Captain
For me, it needs to be someone who is one of the first names on the teamsheet and I've always preferred central players to be captain. Central defender or central midfielder. That leaves Collins or Brownhill.

Joel Linton was a laughing stock at Newcastle until Eddie got hold of him. Josh Brownhill has been one of our best performers last season
If we are in the finger pointing business as to who let us down then Josh is the last one to slag off.

Re: Club Captain
Collins, or whatever midfield general VK brings in. Not a keeper, not a striker, someone in the centre of the field who can see what’s going on and can instruct his team accordingly.
And for those of you about to state Heaton was a great captain, I hear you. He was. But he also had Joey Barton on the pitch, and he was taking responsibility in the middle of the park helping Tom out massively.

He only had Barton for 1 season then 1 half-season. Mee was deputy captain, and we had grafters like Arfield & Boyd as well, but Heaton was so vocal it didn't matter he was back in net.bobinho wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:01 pmCollins, or whatever midfield general VK brings in. Collins is far too young & inexperienced to put the captaincy on his shoulders. The pressure of, if he stays, being first choice CB in a team needing promotion but barren on funds and players, is already enough pressure.
Think it has to be Brownhill really, or Cork if he stays. That said, nobody in the remainder of the squad screams captain material except maybe Jay, but your captain needs to be first choice every game, and if Jays first choice we're in trouble.
Can see it being Cullen if Kompany gets him.

Do we have a club captain separate to a team captain?
