Gonna give this one a swerve, watched the previous 3, and they were a toil to endure, can't see tonight being any different.

In a nutshell currently England bore the @rse off me so I'll give simpering Southgate a wide berth.

As someone who likes nothing more than watching endless, aimless slow passes sideways and backwards, I'm quite looking forward to this one.

Maybe if Southgate concentrated on the football instead of lecturing everyone on current affairs, we might be more enjoyable to watch.

Not sure it's a meltdown but Southgate is hardly going to inspire a team to play free flowing football. The guys a dud.

If we lose to Hungary in the World Cup then i'll understand and partake in criticising, until then people using this nations league crap as a stick to beat Southgate with are the same idiots who were slagging off Southgate throughout the Euros.

To be fair just because it isn't a world cup should not mean he isn't to be criticised. Its still a tournament of sorts. He's boring as ****. And don't call me an idiot.

genuine question - do you reckon Pep or Klopp would get more out of our players ?

Pep and Klopp are by far the 2 best coaches/managers on the planet right now, I think they'd make us more attractive to watch within the huge constraints that is boring international football. Do I think results would improve? No. I don't see this group as tournament winners, there's better sides out there with better players.
People wanted form players picked, well here it is. Bowen, Gallagher, Guehi, Ward Prowse, Rice, Kane, James, Abraham and many more all had their chance.

Nobody to get down the outside and they are solid in the area. It’s gonna be a long night.
I’ll probably go to Germany v Italy for second half.
After saying on another thread how good France & Croatia was last night this is dire. Bellingham is nowhere near ready yet but has a great future.

so you think they would improve us but results wouldn't improve ? That makes no sense. I agree we wont win a tournament though

Germany Hungary was a 1-1 draw the other night, even more boring than England. Italy were also 1 half of the boring previous England game. Go watch any international fixture, 90% of the time you won't get the excitement you crave, it seemingly for whatever reason just isn't possible at international football.

Make us slightly more exciting to watch within the constraints of international football. The results can't possibly improve without us winning a tournament, Southgate made the final.

We've completed a good percentage of the lateral passes while retaining possession in our own half so plenty for Southgate to be pleased with in the performance again.

75% possession of which 90% is in our own half. Gareth will be moist at the feast of passing that his team are serving up.

The guy is shocking at setting up a team offensively. The way England play or have played reminds of us under Dyche. Solid at the back but lacking going forward. Even though England have an abundance of talent in that area. Even in the Euro's we got to the final but attacking wise we were pretty shite. Lacking idea's. Let's stay playing safe. That will win tournaments.

Southgate is as clueless as Brian Laws was.
So much talent to choose from .........he's gutless too, scared to death of losing.
Get rid.

It’s really simple for me regarding Southgate. He is tactically naive, he does not have a game plan , he cannot adopt tactically in a game. He cannot motivate todays players.
I do not think any team in the prem or championship would have him as a manager.

A masterclass of keepball in our own half. The Hungarian players are so impressed they let us keep doing it.

Southgate has to be seen as a huge success for England just on account of the last two tournaments, surely. There is an argument some might make that we did as well in spite of him, rather than because of him (due to our squad strength), but nonetheless, he has guided England to a Final and a Semi.
I’m concerned about the World Cup though as it feels like we are increasingly reliant on Kane to score, and a lot of our creative players just don’t seem to perform internationally (yet), I.e Mount, Foden, Sancho, Grealish to an extent too. The lack of a left back/left wing back worthy of this team is a problem that seems hard to rectify and leaves us incredibly lopsided and the centre backs continue to struggle whoever plays. There are no easy answers in my opinion.
I’d consider changing the formation and playing more narrow as I feel (right back apart) we are lacking anything of value in the full back/wing areas so should do away with them. We need to build the team around Foden who could conceivably be a future Ballon Dor winner, yet he’s currently a bit part.

Regarding left back, Chilwell should return from injury for the start of the new season. He is a very good LWB.

Have the half time Channel 4 pundits been chosen due to their talents as pundits ? What a poor collection. I’d nearly prefer to listen to Merson and Micah Richards.

Of the 12 England players to have featured so far tonight, I'd probably only have 5 in starting XI. I think it's been quite a weak selection throughout this Nations League
As for the Foden comment above, I think Southgate was naive not using him more in the Euros, but surely he's now a certain starter if fit. Although he still seems obsessed with Sterling, and he is way down City's pecking order at the moment
