First day of training tomorrow.

When the players of Burnley Football Club return to training later today I believe they will be greeted by the expected Welshman, Craig Bellamy who has been getting his feet under the table this last week. Of course Pope, Roberts and Hennessy will report back at a later date as they need some more rest.

Together with the three you mentioned I would expect that Collins, Peacock- Farrell, Weghorst and Cornet (has he played internationally this close season?) will also be missing on extended leave.

If they aren’t there it might be the smallest ever number of senior players reporting in on the first day. I can only think of Cotterill’s first summer that might rival it.

Probably a silly question but are we to assume Kompany and his staff will all be present from today? Haven't seen any photos of him around the stadium or training ground or heard any of them formally announced so that's my doubt really.

He did say on the latest interview (which was filmed in Brussels) that he expected to be in Burnley 3/4 days before pre season.

He said on one of the interviews on the official site that he was hoping to be back in the UK three to four days before preseason.

That first SC was unbelievable. Didn’t we start with about five players?

Jensen
Branch
Moore
Blake
Grant

?

Steve Davies once said first day was a killer with a run from Gawthorpe upto the top of Pendle and back as a warm up to preseason. Definitely not one for the faint hearted

I forgot this was today. It’ll be interesting to see who’s there with Kompany and also whether Cork decides to show up.

Be interesting to see if some of the kids that were offered contract turn up.

I assume the likes of Costelloe etc… will be part of the first team this season

I'd imagine Dodgson, Helm, Thomas, Bedeau, Richardson, Costelloe and Phillips will all be in the first team training to start with.

Big chance for them to impress Kompany.

Yep I suspect so. First pre season game in 2 weeks (based on other championship teams) so as it stands it’s likely they will get game time to impress him.

That sounds rather derogatory towards a player who has given us brilliant service for years.

Back in for testing today and I think training might be starting on Wednesday. Beyond Roberts and Hennessey, I'm assuming that Pope, Peacock-Farrell, Collins, Weghorst (if he ever comes back) and Cornet will also be missing for the start.

Bellamy - strange that, as yet, we haven't announced it.

Wasn’t intentional if it read that way, just that we have no idea what’s happening with him or Vydra.

It's only the testing and medicals today but I'm sure when training starts there will be younger players involved although they were for much of last season.

If Cork is leaving, and we don't know the answer to that, then I wouldn't expect him to be there.

I love this short break. I have already got withdrawal symptoms and can’t wait for the new season with all the changes expected. At least it’s a bit different to our recent struggles against the mega rich teams.

Shorter by a couple of weeks or so because of the World Cup and also being relegated. Fixtures on here hopefully by 9 on Thursday

I can't wait for the fixture list to be announced. I'll be doing a lot more away games this season and planning some overnight stays, though I won't be going to Deadwood. There's just no way I'm going to waste hours of my precious free time doing a 20-mile round trip. I said this last time, but I'm determined to stick to it this time.

I remember a Tuesday night at Rotherham and during a quietish spell in the crowd ... a heavily accented Burnley voice shouted out "Aye-Up Branchy Svens watching" much to the amusement of the Clarets in the crowd 🤭

I've tried to take all the positives from relegation, and there are a few. It is concerning that we go into training without a clue what the squad is going to look like. Getting players in is one thing, moulding them into a team is another. The longer it goes on, the more likely automatic promotion or even top 6, goes out the window.
If it takes a second season, that's life, Rome wasn't built in a day, but we just appear to be so far behind the curve, on what is already a very short mid season break.

Think that month break for the World Cup could be a blessing in disguise for us. Anticipating a slow start while the squad gels then full steam ahead after that break.

Who did we bring in? I remember:

Coyne
McGreal
Sinclair
Duff
Hyde
Cahill (after the season started?)

There must have been more, we couldn't have just had 11 + 3 subs?

The first five pre-season then a few loans during the season plus O’Connor, Valois, Oster & Akinbiyi.

Do the club not usually make a song and dance of the ‘lads’ being back when it’s the first day of pre-season? I would have thought they’d be all over it today particularly as it’s Kompany’s first real day in post. Nothing on social media, not even a mention.

Anything they’re being careful to hide before announcement (I.e, Bellamy, other coaches, Harwood-Bellis?!).
