The hot weather

Why is it that when we have a hot spell in summer the press always say it’s going to be hotter than Madrid, Los Angeles etc etc.
The difference is that after our brief sunny period and it goes back to rain and gloom, Madrid, Los Angeles etc will still be basking in beautiful sunshine.
I wonder if the foreign press ever say it’s going to be wetter than Manchester when they have a rainy period.
Anyway enjoy it while it lasts.

It's no good being hot if it's not sunny.

I don’t believe anyone actually enjoys hot weather. It’s bloody horrible! Give me cold and rain.

I did repping in Greece for a couple of seasons, and during that time we had quite a few 'Greek heatwaves' and I never flinched, but now I'm in my forties, and I don't enjoy anything over 24C unless I'm sat by a pool/sea. I also hate hiking and biking in hot weather.
I feel sorry for older folk who struggle to cooldown when the mercury rises.

I used to love hot weather and was always very tolerant of cold weather. I struggle with both now.
I’m a bit like the Peter Kay line: “I like it hot but not this hot.”

Are you there at the moment, Ted? A colleague has been there for a week, and she has basically been hopping from one aircon place to another. She says it's unbearable outdoors, and she's already dreading Thursday, when it's predicted to reach 40C.

I think you are right. Weather has always seemingly been a national pastime but over recent years it has become an obsession. A couple of my ailments are angina and asthma; not a good combination at the best of times but weather such as we have now only serves to exacerbate the problems and increase anxiety. Stay safe everyone.

Lots of roads have been relaid around where I am.
Thanks to the very warm weather, they're probably going to need to redo them because the tarmac is melting

Yeah I’m here and it’s too much. I actually enjoy going on the metro as it’s one of the cooler places!

The British are always talking about the weather but none of them ever do anything about it.

I hope the forecasts are wrong, and it cools down to the seasonal norm before the end of the week for you.

From your comments I think it is safe to assume that your neighbours haven't been checking up on you to make sure that you are keeping hydrated?

Just got back after driving to Tuscany, 3400 miles which includes a thousand or so whilst there.
This was last week near Cortona.
5 minutes earlier it was registering 43C.
A tad on the warm side.

I'm happy with the Scillies.
Rarely below 8 in winter, rarely above 25 in summer. Low humidity.

I was sat in the garden last night in the sun with my bubble coat on having a beer and it was just about bearable. We have had about 4 days of hot weather so far this year and its mid July, so its hardly been cracking the flags
