We pay a small direct debit monthly to the above group. I’ve Googled the company name and tbh no wiser, an insurance of some kind, but I don’t know what for. Can any clever people in here enlighten me?

You could try cancelling the DD and see if any company get in touch with you about it.

Isn't insurance by "The Mob" really a protection racket ... therefore illegal

If you call your bank (or check online banking perhaps) and ask for the reference and contact number for the DD.

You can then call them and give a reference and you will be able to find out what its about.
