Probably be replaced by someone for a million. This leveraged buyout thing is working wonders for the bank balance.

Good item Tony. Hope he does well at Everton, don't get all the negativity on here about him.

As is being discussed on another post - who cares about the fee if the player is good? Some of our best players in recent years cost nothing or peanuts. Would you rather we spunked £10m on someone just for the sake of it?

Think he will be a miss for us this season for sure.
Thought he would have the ability to really show what he could do in a more attacking team.
Can't argue about the fee if true when you look at last seasons performance at that level.
Good luck Dwight.

I think the great majority will wish him well. He brought some real excitement to our team. I hope last year was just a blip, but will be watching him and hoping he will maximise his undoubted potential, despite it being with Everton

I hope he does well but he will need to hit the ground running. Their fans really aren't keen on the signing so, knowing them, first mistake and they will be at him.

More concerned about where the money is going. Owners sold us a dream and the reality couldn’t be further from it.

So disappointed to see him leave. I thought we’d manage to keep hold of him this season and I think he’d have been back to his brilliant self. I wish him well and I hope the Evertonians are kind to him.
All about the quality of the replacement now. It’ll be a miracle if we get anyone as good as him.

Imagine a Championship side with a front three of Dwight McNeil down the left, Max Cornet on the right and Jay Rodiguez in the middle - they'd certainly be among the promotion favourites.
Especially if they had a classy central midfielder like Jack Cork pulling the strings and an experienced centre half in Ben Mee and a rising talent like Nathan Collins at the back.

Just when you're happy we've strengthened with another signing, we sell another one!
Not much we can do about it with the current financial situation, and even less so if McNeil was pushing for a move, but I can't remember a start to a season where the personnel will be so different.
As for McNeil's record. Seven goals in 130 odd appearances isn't great for an attacking player and I thought he was dreadful last season. It'll be interesting to see if he improves with this move. Good luck to him!

Wish him well. If he can get back to the player he was when he first burst on the scene 20 million is a bargain for Everton.

I strongly disagree they sold us a dream - they've never promised anything beyond doing their best for the club. It doesn't help some media outlets blowing our financial "mess" wildly out of proportion for a few reads.
As for Dwight, will miss him - he needs a fresh start, he looked in a rut in the past year or two. I think we've done very well to get £20m for him, very well.

No I would rather we invested money on players who can take us back into the PL rather than fatten Paces wallet

Aren't we investing money back into players who are getting into the PL? Obviously we won't know until the season starts how good our business has been, but we're trying?

Another one in the gutted camp. A substantial amount of the money received needs to be reinvested in a top level championship replacement otherwise even us optimists will start to fear the worst. At least it’s happened early enough for a replacement to be found. Over to the board to do their stuff.

Absolutely no surprise he's gone, and for decent money too, all things considered. The only surprise is that people are surprised.
Frustrating player. Could be excellent and exciting but those moments became less often.
Everton are buying potential. Sure, he has a good amount of PL appearances but partly down to us having had sod all else during his time here.
Difficult to predict if this could be a good move for him and Everton.
But not too fussed about that. Still fairly enthused about what is happening at Burnley, it's pretty much what I thought would happen and what would need to happen.

I really don’t rate him - think he was a very limited player and after a purple patch showed what that he’s limited.
Very good fee and will be happy (if) the fee is reinvested into the playing XI

Good luck to him.
He did well for us for a number of seasons, but the times right for him to move on.
He might even rediscover his form in a different set up.

I personally think this is good business unlike the numbers we got for Pope and Collins. Definitely a player in there but bar the odd game Ive not seen much evidence over the last 18 months.

Thirteenth player to leave since the end of last season?
If we're including Vydra, I can still only remember twelve. Who have I missed?
Released:
Bardsley
Mee
Tarkowski
Pieters
Lennon
Stephens
Vydra*
Sold or loaned out:
Pope
Hennessey
Collins
McNeil
Weghorst

A good rather than great player, and I think this is a good bit of business by us, as long as we use at least some of the money wisely for a replacement.
I certainly wish Dwight well, although I suspect he and Tarks will be involved in another relegation battle this season.

Probably even more dissapointing than Collins as he's our only academy graduate. A player with undoubted talent, thrown in the deep end since day one and this move won't be any easier for him. The rumoured fee is too low regardless of stats, he's 22 and played 3 years at prem level, but really struggled in a poor team last year. Only bonus is I won't have to listen to some of our own fans slandering our own kids.
It only leaves Cornet, Roberts and Brownhill as our valuable assets. If we can keep hold off two of them it would be soften the blow slightly, if all move on I'll be very concerned.

Shame to see him go, he’d have been great at this level.
Real breath of fresh air when he came in, stalled a bit lately but still young and I think he’ll come good again.
Hopefully get 2-3 players in now.

A great player handcuffed by the way he was asked to play under dyche. Would have flourished this season under VK, but no surprise to see him leave and wish him well.
Pivotal we replace him.

Not having that, had he been handcuffed then we'd never have seen anything for him given every game was under Dyche. McNeil, like Dyche, sufffered from a lack of investment in the squad.

Was nullified as soon as teams figured they could afford to go 2v1 on him as he was our only creative outlet.
The arrival of Cornet gave him a little pep in his step, but whenever he was off the boil or at AFCON, Dwight suffered.
Unfortunately, I think he's picked the wrong club to get his career back on track as the Toffee fans will be on his back, the second they realise he's not the second coming of Ronaldinho.
Wish him the best, nevertheless and hope we reinvest wisely (and quickly)!

Entirely on how you choose to interpret it. Could just be congratulating a young teamate on signing a five year contract for an established top flight club.

Good question. I think in some ways yes as there’s more ‘emotion’ involved in football clubs than moving from Tesco to M&S. But I also take your point - hence why I asked the question. Just saw it and thought errrr.
