Cornet, Newcastle and all their millions.

I have read one or two articles saying that various clubs want Cornet but Burnley are insisting that the full release sum is payed up front. The price for instalments being £25m. If Newcastle really have the money that they are reported as having what's the problem with paying what is to them a mere £17.5 m.

Financial fair play - they need to spread the deal over a longer period

Unless we are needing him out of the door for cash flow then I really hope we continue to play hard ball with this.

Hopefully we continue to adopt the stance that FFP compliance is Very much a ‘you’ problem as they’re certainly not doing us any favours. 17.5m is cheap.

I don't think its about Newcastle not having the money as such as they have spent £60m on 3 players so far I believe.

It's probably more about what they are allowed to spend under FFP and what other players they also need. I don't profess to fully understand the FFP but Newcastle still need to adhere to the rules.

Unlike City who have income from good cup runs, bigger media and sponsorship deals and winning the PL and generating decent income from champions league runs - all of this increases their ability to spend. So until Newcastle can up their revenue, being able to 'afford' from a monetary amount and 'afford' from a FFP may be different things.

Also looking at what is sold - net spend is around £60m for Newcastle where as city has received more money in sales than what they have spent on players so this also helps.

If Cornet is one of a number of players they are looking at, they will still be having to consider the financials of their activity in the round I would guess rather than it be a case of Cornet alone.

If the release clause says he is only released on full payment and they don't get this, clearly we as a club will need to make a call. Having apparently declined loan agreements with option to buy in 12 months suggests that we are doing all we can to get the money up front so we can get more bodies in. If we don't get it sorted this week, will this change - who knows whether we will relax what we are asking?

It'll just be another Everton- they'll do what they please and get away with it, the PL will make sure of that.

They won't, not with Newcastle given how the takeover was conducted. Clubs in the Premier League have already blocked them on some things.

I think so, real anger from a lot of clubs and they immediately imposed the new sponsorship rules to block deals from Saudi.

I am still amazed (and disgusted) they allowed that takeover

Paying in instalments makes no difference at all to FFP (unless you're going with some form of we pay a loan fee this year and purchase in a future year).

FFP only applies to clubs playing in UEFA competitions but undoubtedly Newcastle's new owners expect the club to qualify in the near future in which case they may be bringing the clubs finances in line with FFP - the EPL's rules on club finances are not as strict. But paying £17.5m up front or £25m over three years makes little difference to the three-year reporting periods of FFP in any case. Most likely is Burnley's negotiators are trying to get the best deal for the club, and as with most purchases, if you pay up front in full you get a lower price!

All the FFP is doing is making sure the rich get richer as usual. Football is dying little by little every day.

Well, sounds like we've set our stall out.

Ball is in Newcastle's court. They can fork out the cash or else Max stays put. End of story.

In the meantime Cornet can carry on as normal.

I’m no expert but I think anyone with an A level in accounting could get round the FIFA fair play laws. Multiple teams seem to manage it and even if you cock up the numbers, the fines/sanctions seem minimal

Chelsea are the only team to be properly undone by it in recent years

Cornet would I suspect prefer to stay and play for us.
I would like him to play as well.

A deal with be done it’s in everybody’s interest & pace isn’t the kind of guy who puts barriers up in fact you could argue exactly the opposite.

Didn't Kompany say though, that if it dragged on for another week, he would start integrating him into the squad?

I am sure I heard him say that in a preseason interview ... so I would say yes

I don’t get why Newcastle aren’t doing what city have done and get their airline to sponsor the team and ground to ‘generate’ extra income to get round ffp.

SSN reporting that Newcastle are making a £50m bid for James Maddison

As I suspected, the fee for Cornet is probably more impacted by the plans of other signings and how much they think they can spend on him whilst also getting their other targets.

If they can't land their other targets, or have to pay more than expected then I guess this impacts on their ability to meet our demands.

Clearly they know the longer it goes on the more likely others will come in - especially if we flex. However at the moment, they probably know that they are in a good place with no one else preparing to pay.

Thanks to how well Ashley financially ran the club, they can easily go out and spend £200 million this summer and still not fall foul of FFP for a few years.

Regretably, I suspect that rather than their actions being driven by 'anger' they we driven by self-interest; a wealthy NUFC will likely take a bigger slice of what they see as their financial pie

50 million for Maddison. Goodness me. We have clearly sold our players on the cheap. Still.needs must. But I hope we hold out for a decent fee for Maxwel.

Personally I think MC is a hard sell. It has surprised me and I fully expected him to go before Dwight. Not featuring him at BFC is very short sighted, as even with our very shrewd recruitment its unlikely we will get anyone more explosive. He outscored our entire forwards and midfield combined I believe in half a season. If he was to stay he could be a big goal scorer in this League. I watched the Huddersfield game again today, and as hard as he tried, Barnes looked very pedestrian. He had a 5 yard start on Lees at one point (not the fastest Championship defender), and Lees got his tackle in before Barnes had raised his leg to shoot. Cornet is very sharp and under VK he could be sensational. The worse thing that can happen is his value rockets for the January window. We need a strategy on this one guys, not living from day to day and getting excited by fictitious press rumours, which lets face it have been in abundance since within one hour of being relegated in May

Simples, No one paying release fee up front.A few teams dipping their toes but unwilling at this stage to put their money where their mouths are, VK should integrate him into the squad now

Good luck with that 1 we are more desperate than everybody else financially speaking & every b*gger knows it & can effectively dictate the terms to us not the other way around. We need him gone more than clubs need to take him.

Unfortunately, as the Man City case proves, the league will not do anything to ban this type of thing. City have got away with it. Everton have got away with it, Chelsea have got away with it and Newcastle will get away with it. It's how it works.

Leicester are in a position to ask for £50m for Maddison. Not that he's worth it.

The one player they would get that and more for IMHO is Fofana.

I honestly think we can use the money from his sale to better use than retaining him

Is he really becoming a hindrance though. All this is just background talk - I'm sure he is just knuckling down in training hoping to get in a matchday squad.
