Away games- 'Seat choice'
Was it a success?
Well, first of all, it's not a seat choice. You're given the option to pick a set of three rows. I picked option 'A to C' and was allocated tickets in row C.
The problem then is that the people in front of me, in rows A and B, decided they would stand for the whole match.
So no. it wasn't a success. I can only see it working if the people who want to stand opt for the higher rows.
Perhaps they just bought a ticket without choosing the option.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
It is common practice for away fans to stand for the duration, even on the rows closest to the pitch. That isn't the fault of the club but more the people in front of you. I personally think the new seat choice is a great idea and was really easy to use. It does appear to be on a game by game basis on how much of a option you are given however as there is less choice for wigan.
Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
I thought that the choice for both Huddersfield and Wigan was Front, Middle or Rear?? Not perfect but better than no choice at all.Boxy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 3:21 pmIt is common practice for away fans to stand for the duration, even on the rows closest to the pitch. It's not a great option if I can't stand to watch though is it?
I may be wrong, but I thought the whole point of it was to help this issue?

I don't think that there's any system which will guarantee you a view without someone in front standing.dougcollins wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 3:24 pmIt's not a great option if I can't stand to watch though is it?

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
22 of us went Huddersfield, we "chose" middle, we got put on rows C and D, shocking view really, although all behind were standing so we could too
So as for success, I'd say not so much.
Although with the apparent ticketing issues, I think we should count ourselves lucky we got all 22, and they were all together split over 2 rows.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
I seem to remember being able to choose a from a list of blocks of rows like the OP said what include select rows in the front , middle and rear. So i selected for example rows j-M. Same with watford.
But WIgan seems to just state front , middle , rear. No specific rows

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Doesn’t affect me or those I attend away games with, but I do feel for those who can't or struggle to stand for the whole game. That was certainly the case at Huddersfield - I didn't sit down once. There has to be a way round this.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Interesting, as when I went in I was given the choice of the first three rows. Believe me, I know the view from there is sh!t but at least I thought it would give me the chance to watch an away game as I can't stand. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
Back to buying tickets in the home end then.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
I also feel for them, havent a few members of family who dont go to away games for this reason. I suppose the only real option a club would have is to sell the front row only to people with these issues.
Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
For Watford I only got front, middle or back when buying tickets.Boxy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 3:26 pmI seem to remember being able to choose a from a list of blocks of rows like the OP said what include select rows in the front , middle and rear. It's a decent system in principle, but it seems there wasn't enough people who like to sit down, buying the first few rows.dougcollins wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 3:18 pmWas it a success?

I'm unfortunately in that category. No chance of sitting last Friday and I must admit that by the end of the game I was a bit weary. It was a warm night too. Time catches up with us all eventually.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Even if there was an option to pick 'seating' seats, I don't know how the Club can vett purchasers to be sure that they won't stand.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Safe standing will eventually solve this, but when we played at Spurs at the end of last season, our club didn't offer it so we had standers in the sitting areas and sitters in the standing areas.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
It's a good idea but in reality you're always going to be relying on the people in front of you sitting down. It can't really work effectively unless you can choose actual seats, which is unlikely to happen. Tickets sold so fast for Hudds that people were always going to be buying whatever they could in their groups.
Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Might be better to give tickets buyers the choice of front or back, and then let it be understood that if you choose "front" you stay sat down. That way the demarcation line between standers and sitters will automatically gravitate to where it meets when the last ticket is sold.
Of course, if people are insistent that it's a passionate game, and therefore they have the right to block anyone's view - there's not much the powers-that-be can do.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
It's the responsibility of the fans to be considerate of others. It's as simple as that. If someone behind me can't stand, I'd sit or I'd offer to swap rows with them. It's not difficult to think of others and be accomodating.

I think there should be enforced sitting for a number of frontispiece rows, given a 'choice'.Boxy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 3:21 pmIt is common practice for away fans to stand for the duration, even on the rows closest to the pitch. Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Those who want to sit should choose front rows and those who want to stand choose the back. I chose to go to the back and got row Z. There was some old woman with crutches who was on the row in front of me. Why chose that section of you can’t stand? Surely it is common sense.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
I’ve bought a ticket in the “front “ section for Wigan game. I bought it early this morning. I will be really cheesed off if I have to stand throughout the game. Probably will have to though due to other people’s lack of consideration.
Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Why can't they label the front section tickets as preferred seated tickets and emphasise this during the sale, just so people are aware there are likely to be less mobile or older people in those areas? All the annoying cokeheads can sit at the back

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
It should be very obvious that if you want to sit, then you get tickets near the front where possible. No guarantees though and I do feel for people who can't stand for a couple of hours. Safe standing can't come quickly enough imo.

Rather than start a new thread:
Assuming there are some left, can I go down and get 3 tickets tomorrow on behalf of myself and two other season ticket holders with the required points. I am presuming they don't need to be with me!

Yes you can get as many tickets you like provided you have their individual clarets numbersCaptainKirk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 3:27 pmRather than start a new thread:

We asked to swap seats with a group who were standing a while ago. Their response was no and they continued to stand all match.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
See thats where it falls down MACCA, I couldn’t get a ticket with almost 5,500 points when I’ll pretty much guarantee a large portion of that away crowd had under 1,000, or none at all

When you have a crap system, people will exploit it.
Plenty of kids at the Huddersfield game which is great to see, but you need 17 years a ST holder or something to get the 6k points.

I don't get people!dougcollins wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:24 pmUnfortunately, that's typical of my experience.
Usually accompanied by a load of abuse.
I would happily swap if it meant you could sit and I could stand.

Couldn’t agree more with getting kids involved, but then it should be the option of one Under 17 ticket sold with each adult ticket over 6,000 points. Then that ticket shows ID to get in the ground at the Huddersfield end.
That Under 17 fan also gets their own points build-up with that ticket.
At the moment, Joe Bloggs with 8,000 points is going in and buying six, and giving them to his mates who have 30 points each and only going for a **** up

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
There is clearly no answer thaat will guarentee as eated fan will not hve people standing in front of him or her. I'm 80 and unable to stand for more than a few minutes . The only way I'll ever get to an away game is by buying home seats if I can . I'm in touch with my my Wigan friends now to sort this out for the 27th. Perhaps all standing areas will make it easier to enforce sitting for those who need it.
Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
You're correct.
It's been done to death though on the many points system threads.
It happens a couple of times a season at most that all the tickets will sell out at the 6k point category.
People in the 6k+ category don't want it changing as it guarantees them a ticket as and when they want it, and as you say if they don't fancy it, they simply pass the ticket onto a friend or family member.
There's no law to buying someone a ticket as a gift, or passing it on should you no longer be able to attend.
Look on the brightside, you're not that far off 6k now, 1 of the 2 games you're likely to miss out is out if the way, and finally there's still lots of tickets left for Wigsn and Watford so you can get your away fix very soon.
Hang in there, as you'll be able to stick 2 fingers up at the under 6k peasants next season

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
I’ve had to wait until today to get tickets for Wigan as 2 of our group of 5 are kids without the required points.
Knowing how “temperamental” our ticket system can be, I gave it a try yesterday to get them and you can’t use the same number more than once.
You can only buy them if you have the Claret Number of somebody with the required points.
Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
So every single person at Huddersfield each bought their own ticket, or had 6,000 loyalty points?
Find that hard to believe - especially after MACCA’s comment above

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Don't think anybody is saying that. As long as you know somebody with enough points who doesn't want to go you're sorted.
My Dad isn't bothered about away games anymore, so for certain games that are likely to sell out quickly I use his clarets number.

Re: Away games- 'Seat choice'
Can't see where anyone has said "So every single person at Huddersfield each bought their own ticket, or had 6,000 loyalty points?"
Also as Albert Einstein once said, "don't believe everything you read on the internet"
Not sure what you mean about my comments, I'm thick as mince and know now nothing, take any notice of me!
