Holiday Reading

Evening all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for some books to take on holiday this summer please? I tend to prefer non-fiction (such as war tales, autobiographies, biographies, crime books etc.) and thus far have Good Pop, Bad Pop on the list by Jarvis Cocker and following a thread a few days ago, SAS Rogue Heroes.

Any other recommendations are gratefully received.

I read Bob Willis Cricketer and a Gentleman which I enjoyed abd also a book called Lantern Rouge about the history behind the last place finish in the Tour de France. Both easy reading and interesting if you are into sport.

Also read Code Breaker, a book about CRISPR and gene editing which was way above my head in terms of the science but mind blowing in terms of the way things are moving forward in that field.

I enjoyed Lonely Boy by Steve Jones. Also, written a while back, I was introduced to Charles Bukowski’s semi autobiographical books Ham on Rye, Post Office, and Women, based on his fictional alter ego Henry Chinaski. Crude at times but I got to like his direct style. Enjoy your holiday.

Just read American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins...the plot involves a Mexican woman and her young son on the run from a drug cartel in Mexico and trying to reach the USA. Brilliant book and , to quote the cliche, "I couldn't put it down".

Very good indeed.
Great references to the 80s for music, football, going out in Manchester etc

Just finished reading 'Sharpe's Assassin'. Bernard Cornwell. Was surprised he was still writing about the gutter snipe who progresses his military career during the war against Napoleon's France. Brilliant read though.
