My sons premium renewal ( 1 dog- cocker spaniel- 3 yrs old) is £306 for the year with a £99 excess. He wants min £7k accident and illness cover and life time cover. Happy to increase excess. Just wondered if others could offer advice. Thank you.

Use one of the comparison sites. You can enter the level of cover and excess etc and then compare policies. I think we used Many Pets and pay a hefty premium, but the level of cover is at the top end of the scale. When you find the policy you want, check out Topcashback site and see if any of them offer cash back on pet insurance and access their site from the Cashback site.

I’m interested too, we can’t seem to get cover for our 14 year old (adopted) dog, well technically we can but at £100+/month with an excess of £150 thought it wasn’t viable, but recent out of hours charge of £400+ made us re look

We have ours with Agria £25pm, but we also pay monthly fee to vets which covers his checkups and flea/worming tablets through the year

My 11 year old whippet recently had £3.5k work done (he’d gone lame) insured with Tesco which covered £3K of the cost, but the new premium is now £800 pa (was £280) they won’t payout any more for the lame issue, so only new claims.

I decided to not renew and am searching for a better deal.

We had the same issue with our 8yr old cocker.
The price had risen to over £30/mth.
We've had to go with Animal Friends, it is a lifetime policy but only covers £1000 per condition per year. Plus we have to pay £99 excess and 20% of the vets fees too.
However, the price is only £13.60/ mth.

As stated above, we found it on a comparison site.
Concerning the other issue raised above, I didn't think you could insure a dog after its 10th birthday.
You live and learn!

I don't have pet insurance sorry, but anything like this, I'd recommend going through TopCashback and getting some money back that way. I've just checked and most of the obvious suppliers and comparison sites are on there with various amounts of cashback. Definitely worth a look at least, whether it's for this, other insurance, energy suppliers, utilities etc.

We’re with Animal Friends and pay around £30 a month for our 7 year old Cocker. We found that it’s extremely difficult to change insurance provider mid term and most dog owners seem to stop paying insurance around year 9/10 as it becomes stupidly expensive. Just put the same money away each month to cover emergencies but get a cheap public liability insurance

Whatever insurance you get to get a dog insured for you will always end up out of pocket with the small print,Vets & Dentists seem to make up their fees as they go along.
We got absolutely stung by the vets when we sadly lost one of our dogs in January.
Always check the small print.

Mine is a lifetime cover so when it’s renewed the spending limits are renewed too

We had a dog that had two cruciate operations under insurance cover, then as it got older the premium went to nearly £100 a month.I worked out the two ops totalled close to £6000 and in the 14 or so years I was quids in At that point I did not renew but bought a £100 of premium bonds a month, knowing I can cash in within two days and fund the medical costs myself. I never needed to draw on that, but sadly when the dog passed away two years later I had over £2000 in premium bonds and won a couple of times too.The comparison sites are worth trying-I now have a 4 year old terrier that costs about £24 a month. There are just two main underwriters in the industry, but hundreds of differing schemes that offer varying levels of cover, excess etc
