Striker needed!

Oh for a Charlie Austin or Andre Gray in their prime at this level right now!

Barnes and Rodriguez are not going to get 20 a season between them... Never mind each!

I thought Jay looked sharp when he came on. He’s a far superior footballer than Barnes.

Agreed.
Desperately required.

Jay looked good. Suits this system far more than Barnes. I’d like to see Jay partnered up there with a fast striker.

Is this Macedonian that we are meant to be signing a winger or striker?

It’s no coincidence our performance changed dramatically when he came on. He makes the runs that make the difference.

He’s a goal scorer at this level

Most people on here were saying this before tonight. Glaring gap in our squad.

Jay is far more mobile.

Once again we got out Burnley’d by a team who were happy to concede possession at times.

My thoughts exactly ... Costelloe is willing, but limited !

The commentator said VK likes him because he can defend like a " deep lying midfield player ", I'd like him better if he was good for 20 goals a season ...

Which chances created tonight would Austin or Gray have put away?

Not disagreeing, by the way, we do need a proper finisher. But not sure what difference it would have made tonight.

Yep very true. Not a striker on the planet would have scored tonight.

He’s a winger. Not exactly what we are desperate for in my opinion. Need a 10 and striker.

We'll never know, but they were far more likely to get into the right areas and stay on their feet than Barnes!

I'm intrigued as to which chances Gray or Austin would have scored tonight?

Barnes was completely isolated first half. Jay more mobile and we looked sharper once he came on. But neither missed a chance I can recall

With Barnes and Jay Rod any ball over the top is pointless. An Andre Gray or Danny Ings would thrive. It’s actually sad to watch Barnes at the minute and the zero effect he offers to the game.

What ?
We had 4 fantastic chances at least……the last one falling to a substitute centre back who had never played at this level. It’s just a stab in the dark but my guess that there may be the odd striker on the planet who would have scored with that chance (and at least 2 of Josh’s chances)

It’s more the movement and building moves. Barnes can barely move or keep hold of the ball so defenders don’t have to worry about him. He doesn’t drag them out of position in a way Jay could, or any mobile striker.

If we created a hatful, which we haven’t, I’d still have little faith he’d put many of them away.

We need two new strikers, Jay and Barnes are past it.

You get the feeling in these past two games is that if we get the first goal we will completely control the game but so far if we give away a sloppy goal we struggle to break teams down. I think Twine will really help when he’s back fit. Once we can just get that cutting edge I think we will be a force.

A striker that will stretch a defence and a number ten who will provide the link, someone with a bit of trickery quick feet who can pick a clever pass.

For all our possession, we didn’t use it well enough at times.

The time to really start judging is probably around October.

A prime Andre Gray would have created a chance for himself with his pace, would only take one reverse pass through and the whole attack changes shape, similar to Barnes run through against Huddersfield where he took approximately 3 working days to have a shot, didn’t, and didn’t get the pen either.

We need a pacey out and out striker. Tella, Benson, Vitinho, Twine, all ‘pacey’ players, or more pacey than were used to, but none are out and out goalscorers.

From the rumours it sounds like we're only after the one striker. With Vydra and Wout gone, I'd be after two. We've seen before that teams who sign a quality striker more than often get promoted (Andre Gray being the example).

Barnes and Jay have a role in this squad, I'm not keen on seeing all the negativity towards them but it's clear we need someone who can finish, or if Twine gets fit, can regularly bring players into the game. Just something new at least.

I think twine is the Vydra replacement but just more versatile

Definitely need one striker. The jury is very much out for me on Benson and Tella in terms of wingers.

These kinds of threads have popped up after game so far. Do people really have significant doubts that we aren't trying to bring in a striker of the required quality? What makes people so unconvinced? Strikers are expensive and every team wants one. We've been linked with many and the way I see it is is that it'll happen, sooner rather than later. And it would've been sooner, probably. Jackson Muleka would've been one of Kompany's first signings if the apparent problems with a work permit hadn't arisen.

Not all the rebuild can happen at immediately the same time. Patience. Trust. It's going to be a fun season.

We could have had Kompanys mate Aguero playing today and it would have made no difference since our play, especially in the first half, did not create chances.
