Josh Brownhill

IMO Josh is NOT a goalscorer. We would be better off playing Cork and Brownhill as the two holding midfield players.

Brownhill was amazing tonight. Other than Maatsen poss the only contender for MOTM. He looked our most dangerous in the final 3rd.

While he may not be a natural goal scorer, he's already scored a beauty so far and can consider himself hugely unlucky not to score at least one tonight. He didn't do much wrong but was denied by two decent saves and the crossbar.

He looks just about our only player capable of scoring at the moment.

two cracking saves from the keeper and the crossbar. Just a great time to remind everyone that Lukaku cost 100 million

Crazy to think that Josh Brownhill would be our main goal threat when in a Dyche side looked clueless.

Kompany played him on the front foot 2nd half and he was excellent, if we want to do anything this season we need to hold onto him at all costs

Going back to the original topic, I’d agree. His speed makes him a natural covering player and his interceptions are the best around as we know. His passing is a little limited so makes sense for him to be in front of the defence despite him doing a decent job in attack

Did well. If Moyes wants him the price just increased.

Essential we keep Brownhill. Something I've been saying all summer.

Where does he fit if we manage to bring in a decent number 10?

Definitely a good player at this level, though I don’t think a defensive midfield role is really his bag.

Is playing well and excelling in the championship this year after much criticism of our midfield in the PL. A much improved player in his time at Burnley and a key component of a promotion pushing side.

Thought he was brilliant, bizarre to pick out the best player so far this season… and scorer of a belter last week, but hey ho

Brownhill has been overall our best player so far this season. I much prefer him in a more roaming, bustling role in front of Cork and Cullen.

Those three are the midfielders who should start every game at the moment if fit.

He needs to play around the front line, if not the 10, then a second 10. He is creative in the role, picks a pass, and willing to take on the shot when he can.
Would be a waste playing deeper, and with Cullen and Cork, no need for him to.

SDs system never suited him, defending deep, which we did for 65% of most games, left him hopelessly out of his favoured position for most of the game, add to that his fill in on the wing. Always been a great player, we just haven't had the opportunity to see how good.

He could become a greater goal scorer now he has been given licence to push forward. He was the best player yesterday in the second half when Cork allowed him to support the forwards

Brownhill was fabulous 2nd half last night, and how he didn't bag beats me, a key player at this level, who will notch 8-10 over the course of the season for me, vital we retain him, and presently he's our biggest goal threat.

Just a shame that late chance didn't end up in the back of the net, but where were our poachers following it in to get an easy tap in, this is what we're missing more than anything, a striker who sniffs out chances.

Josh was my MoM yesterday. But I also saw some real positives from Bastien, as well as Cork and Cullen obviously

With Twine fit soon 🤞, and options of Tella, Vitinho and Benson, plus potentially JBG at some point, it looks good.

Just need a striker who plays off the shoulder and we're good

Need to play a 4-3-3 and have Cullen/Brownhill either side of a sitting Jack Cork

No he doesn’t, someone else will make way for Twine. Brownhill is key.

The current formation doesn’t suit his game

He’s not quite a sitting midfielder how we have them deployed but he’s not quite a 10 either.

Think having one sitting midfielder would get the most out of our best available players (see my post above)

Only position I can see him playing when everyone is fit an all business is done is next to cullen.

If Cork is nailed on then I’m not sure he plays.

As surely the front four looks something like

Tella, Twine, Churlinov
Jay

Him and Cullen would work far better at home when teams will sit in.

There really is no need for 2 DCM who dont plsy in the finsl 3rd, we need Brownhills energy, and forward thinking/playing ability if we are going to remain a low scoring side with no real 25 gosl man.

I like Cork, but he is too safe, sideways and not aggressive enough in the final 3rd

I'd have

Wide man Cullen Brownhill wide man
Twine Jay/New

Brownhill has the legs for box to box and adds to the numbers on and around the box when we are attacking

That’s the only role I could see him play

But not sure cork gets dropped as easy as you suggest

Must admit I think Brownhill is struggling to adapt, he’s not releasing the ball quick enough yet and his finishing isn’t the strongest.

A good few occasions tonight promising moves broke down with him.

Hopefully it will come as the team settles and he gets used to his team mates.

I do think we are crying out for Twine though.

We need a danger man with good movement and an eye for goal occupying one of those two advanced midfield roles. Hopefully that is Twine. It certainly isn’t Brownhill.

One of the best players in the league. Could score a dozen goals or more this season. I hope he's still here at the end of the transfer window. He was excellent yesterday and also Cork, despite his legs having gone two years ago, was very good again too. Two crucial players for us this season.

As part of the Watford v Burnley match report in The Football League paper on Sunday 14 August there was a piece with Vincent Kompany titled "Kompany banking on lively Brownhill" in which he stated "I think Josh will get a lot of goals this season, he is threatening." By saying "a lot" I would imagine Kompany is hoping for a goals tally from Josh at least in double figures this season.

Brownhill must be retained beyond Thursday, he's been excellent this season, although the signs were there towards the end of last season that he could add goals and assists to his game, which he is now doing in spades.

It would be a massive blow to Kompany to lose Brownhill in view of his recent comments about the importance of the player in adding goals and assists, and I hope that he would resist any such moves for the player at this late stage in the window.

Josh himself is very keen to stay. He is loving it under Kompany now the ball is to feet more, he feels he wasn’t at his best with Dyche’s system. There is PL interest (West Ham mainly) but he doesn’t want to leave. That’s all from a direct source (who you wouldn’t question) to the player.

Let's hope that's true. Brownhill certainly looks to be enjoying his football. He is so important to this team.
