Kevin Lynch… Undr the cosh.

Claims bananas were thrown in the Waddle season…. Nonsense.
Does admit that he hated Burnley and never referred well. And that Burnley fans hated him.
Still the worst referee ever seen on Turf Moor.

Was just about to post the link on here for it, currently listening to it now, ignoring the Burnley nonsense it is a very funny episode, the story of Willie Donachie getting sent off for Oldham at Sheff Utd

We were talking about the worst referee ever on the Turf going to Watford. As bad as Lynch was, as bad as McNally was, I give you George Hartley from Wakefield, Burnley v Wolves 1970.

States with the Burnley racist incidents that we were playing Blackpool in an evening game in the late nineties and he thinks Waddle was manager at the time.
Allegedly Burnley fans were making racist chants to Blackpool players and chucking bananas onto the pitch. He claims Burnley were the only club he reported in his career for racist incidents.
I have found two Tuesday night games against Blackpool in the late 90s, one in the Waddle season, both below:
Burnley 2-0 Blackpool 10th September 1996
Burnley 1-2 Blackpool 7th April 1998
Anyone know if Lynch reffed either game above? Cannot find information online on who the refs were for each game.

We've had some bad ones down the years but I agree with Tony. George Hartleys performance v Wolves was the worst in my time watching Burnley.

We got beat 1-0 in a night match v Blackpool I think, Mullin got sent off for putting his hands on the ref.
Was that Kevin Lynch?

They've never seen a round ball in Wakefield. What hope would he have of knowing the rules?

Actually could have been 2-1 thinking about it. Was definitely Lynch, sure he gave a free kick when it was a foul in the box that got the reaction from Mullin.
As for bananas, bullshit.

We probably do have one of if not the most racist fan bases in the country, the nazi salute at Spurs, the Man City plane etc

Or visit camp nou to hear the majority of fans sat near is doing monkey chants at Marcelo. All fans have racists, sadly, it's wrong that they make out Burnley is worse than other clubs.

Every club was the same, I don’t know why people are pointing the finger at Burnley, it was a reflection of society not Burnley especially.
I was truly shocked in the mid 90’s when a Huddersfield supporter thought he could enjoy some banter with the locals in the Bob Lord Stand, “Crikey your ____ is even worse than our _______.” I remember being very proud that those in earshot told him to “fec off’

The worst biggotts I’ve ever spoken to were Everton Fans, at the time they thought Burnley was a disgrace, “a northern working class club with ______?” At the time they swore blind they’d stop going to Goddison if the ever signed a black player… funny I was only thinking about how utterly angry they were last week… and did they keep to their words? That’s early 1990’s. Vile, but one of my closest friends is the nicest bloke you can meet and a Toffee.
You should never clump groups of people in generalisations. I try to treat people like days each is different and best one at a time.

I remember this game so clearly for some reason. I had my swimming lesson at the Thompson Centre after school, then onto Planet Pizza for tea then the Turf. I’m pretty sure my 8 year old enquiring mind would have notice bananas being thrown. What a load of rubbish!
By the way, how bad is the pitch?

Can’t say I remember bananas being thrown at this match or to be honest any other at the Turf. Certainly heard racist chanting both home or away ( there’s less than there was) but bananas?

I do recall monkey chants on the Turf. Fairly sure Adrian Littlejohn got some in 93/94. Don't ever remember bananas being thrown and I think that type of chanting had died out by the Waddle era.

Looking at the highlights, it was a penalty, and a straight red for that.... proper lynched.
He was the 90's Lee Mason.

any suggestion that Burnley fans are more racist than anyone else is nonsense. we've made black players very welcome, from Roger Eli, Johny Francis, Winston White etc and despite some of them not being very good players they never got abused, also Kevin Francis from Stockport got some stick in a nice way, but for being tall not black and he applauded the Burnley fans at Wembley

Very entertaining ... the story of the dust-up at Carrow Road made me laugh out loud !
" 21 players all at it, punches thrown players diving in pulling people off etc ..... all except Bryan Gunn the Norwich 'keeper, looking back, I should have yellow carded 'im for Cowardice " .... Brilliant !

You could argue either way if it was a penalty or free kick, but then John Mullin goes up to Lynch and pushes him in the chest ...
That's a Red card now, and was then ..

At the end of the game a Burnley fan ran on the pitch and headed straight for the ref but was stopped by Derek Dougan if I remember correctly. I'd never seen anything like it on the Turf but it was the first time I'd noticed a truly awful refereeing performance.

I 'know' the one that was doing the 'crying' gesture, that was with the saluting guy. He was in corporate for the Blackpool game.
