Hello
Finally got around to registering on the new site and wondering who I might know. I joined and played for Junior Clarets in 1981-2 up to 1988 and was a ball boy on the Turf from 1984 to 1988.

Hi roper, your post suggests perhaps you were on Clarets Mad, not a problem many of us were. Try offering you username off there (if different) as that may flag up to some members who use different names on here.

I was a ball boy for a couple of seasons upto and including the orient season (87) and also played for junior clarets around the same sort of dates, I played in the same junior clarets team as John Mullen (but was absolutely awful in comparison).

Hi Matt. John was in the year below me so I played with his brother Paul. One of my claim to fames is that I am the little Lad in the grey tracksuit jumping up and down on the track behind the goal in front of the Cricket field when Grewcocks shot goes in!

I was on the long side and got absolutely swamped at the end, i remember telling the police lady next to me her hat was smoking, somebody from the crowd had flicked a cigarette and it had landed on her hat.

Bit different from those midweek reserve games where we had to stand in the longside in case the ball went in there so we could boot it back on the pitch! Only 1 ball in them days

Haha, i remember that, I also remember those bloody awful grey sweat suits we had to wear. Still at least we got a free pie at half time. I remember Leighton James one match telling me that if we were losing I had to run like mad to get the ball back but if we were winning I had to take my time.

That was a decent Junior Clarets team that the Mullin brothers played in but they stood out like beacons in the team.

Hi CT it was. They were the stars but there was other quality in there too. The Bridge brothers were very good. And a kid called Jason Tansey was outstanding at that age.

That was some year though. We played them in the worsley cup final and lost 2-0. John and Chris Casper played up a year, so both them and Paul all went on to have careers in professional football (albeit Paul joined the party late).

Hey Ste. I played in these Teds and Junior Clarets teams. You weren’t too shabby I remember

Pretty sure we played together for the town team. Did you go to Ightenhill? Have a VHS of us beating you in the Hartley Cup final too.
Hope you are well mate
