Muric - 6
Maatsen - 5
Harwood-Bellis - 7 (Would've been an 8 or a 9 but feels odd to give a defender much more than a 7 after conceding three goals.)
Taylor - 6
Roberts - 7
Cullen - 7
Cork - 7
Brownhill - 7
Tella - 8
Vitinho - 5
Rodriguez - 7

Barnes - 3 (Pathetic.)

Can't be bothered doing the other subs, thought they changed the game and not for the better.

Muric 6 Hard to score, mistakes and saves.
Roberts 5 I expected much more.
Harwood-Bellis 7 Our only defender.
Taylor 5 Thankfully will be back where he belongs at left-back
Maatsen 6 Pathetic defending for the goal, stupid reaction. But potentially an absolutely great player
Cork 7 quietly effective, covered for the ineffective Cullen
Cullen 5 Very poor game today
Brownhill 8 Brilliant 1st half, quiet 2nd.
Tella 8* quiet 2nd half, but what a 1st half
Vitinho 6 Looks a prospect.
Rodriguez 7 Really solid play today, weirdly taken off.

Barnes 3 utterly embarrassing, he just gets worse and worse.
Churlinov 4 looked totally lost, will need more time.
Bastien. 6 Looks a solid player, really like him so far.

Muric 7 - strangely kept us in it at the end and gained us a point ( least we now know he can save stuff, after his first real test in a game )
Roberts 5 defensively weak
THB 7 and what a pass
Taylor 6 not a CB, he won't last the season there
Mattsen 4 as Roberts , 2nd goal his error(s) and what a stupid boy reacting like that
Vitinho 5
Brownhill 7 great goal
Cullen 6 does the basics but offers nothing in creativity ( not that it's his job it seems )
Cork 6 exactly as above
Tella 8
Jay 7

The game changed with the subs, IMO they were the wrong calls, 1 player lost the ball a very lot, play broke down and to quote Paul Weller the constant throwing themselves to the floor was embarrassing.

Fortunate to leave with a point, as Blackpool were the better side 2nd half and had 2 glorious chances to win it.

As we thought there is a lot of inexperience in this tram and we look relatively decent at 0-0 and in the middle 3rd, but look all at sea defensively.
Partnerships will build up over time, but you can't be throwing a 3-1 lead away in the last 20 mins at home.

The only positive is I watched on TV, and I wasn't there, as I'd have been even more furious.

2 home games, 4 points dropped

Honestly struggled to rate this one. At times we looked truly excellent but other times absolutely abysmal.

Muric 6 kept us in the game but also at fault for the first.
Roberts 5 just doesn’t offer a lot in either direction.
THB 8 a level above the rest of the defenders
Taylor 6
Maatsen 3 idiot
Cullen 5 great in phases but caught on numerous occasions
Cork 6
Brownhill 6 great goal but pretty quiet for the rest of the game.
Tella 8 shining light
Jay 6 just ok
Vitinho 5 very isolated and struggled to get in the game

Barnes 5
Benson 7 good sub appearance
Bastien 5 no idea why he was brought on
Churlinov 5 not sure why he brought him on

Muric - 6 frustrating but kept us in it second half
Roberts - 6 - average game
THB - 7 - made the first two goals
Taylor - 5 - not a centre back
Maatsen - 4 - deservedly got sent off, moment of madness and showed his inexperience.
Cullen - 5 - gave the ball away too much
Cork - 7 - had a decent game
Brownhill - 6 - great goal but felt as though he went quiet.
Vitinho - 5 - not a winger
Tella - 8* - think he will be a great signing for us.
Jay - 6 - did ok, links play better than Barnes

Barnes - 3 - an embarrassing liability these days, would be happy to never see him play for us again.
Bastien - 6 tries, could have nicked it at the end

Roberts 5

Taylor 6
Vitinho 5
Cullen 6
Brownhill 7 +1 for goal
Cork 6
Maatsen 4 -1 for stupid sending off.

Muric 6 some good saves, crowd on his back didn't help him at all.
Roberts 5
THB 7
Taylor 4
Maatsen 3
Cork 4 great first half, looked absolutely knackered in the 2nd and was like playing with 10
Cullen 5
Tella 8
Vitinho 5
Brownhill 6
Jay 5

So flat 2nd half, trying to slow the game down instead of pushing forward for a 4th. Crowd on the keepers back. Wrong subs, Barnes is fecking useless. Bastien is poor. Benson can't cross for toffee.

Muric 6 tricky to rate, some good saves but still not fully convinced with his command.
Roberts 4 too slow to move the ball aand tooweak defensively. Where is the attacking threat
THB 7 only defender to get any credit today
Taylor 4 too small and not technically good enough for this system (but it may come yet)
Maatsen 3 stupid reaction, OK going forward but useless as a defender today
Cullen 5 at fault for their 1st which then gave them some belief
Cork 6 OK in first half, very quiet 2nd
Brownhill 7 great goal and generally very busy, dropped off in the 2nd but so did everyone
Vitinho 6 ignored so often in that 1st half when in acres of space, received the ball too late too often when it went his way.
Tella 8* 2 great goals and a real threat, surprised he was hooked
Jay 7 worked hard, lovely touch for the owner and caused problems

Barnes 4 poor today, dive was embarrassing
Bastien 5 no impact despite trying
Benson 6 some good effort but a little lightweight. Didn't hide today though

Muric 5 - Playing it out is fine for me but often picks the wrong option
Roberts 6 - Thought he was better today
THB 6
Taylor 5 - Thought he was growing into role more first but then reverted back and is part of the problem physically defending set pieces and long balls.
Maatsen 5 - Shame. Part of the issue with so many young players.
Cork 7
Cullen 5
Vitinho 6 - Nearly man atm
Brownhill 7
Tella 8 - Strong, quick, good finishes, did well defensively. Should never have been brought off.
Rodriguez 7

Barnes 3 - Hope that is the catalyst to enter market for forward. Disgraceful dive.
Bastien 4 - Looked lost positionally out of possession, inc for 2nd goal. Doesn't look good in that position.
Benson. Not on long enough, encouraging.

I’m going to wait to post my ratings when I’ve relaxed but I’m genuinely baffled (I suppose I shouldn’t be) at the Roberts marks. Not one single goal came from him. None of the chances were due to him yet he’s targeted. Matsen wvwn before the sending off was much much more culpable. Same as Cullen for the goal over muric. But at the end of the day we were cruising until the shambolic defending for the second

Muric 6 (shite messing with the ball which cost yes, but tbf 2 or 3 excellent saves which saved the point) Maatsen 7 (-2 for retaliation which got him a red) THB 7 but nowhere near as dominant in the air as we've been used to) Taylor 6 Roberts 5 Cullen 7 (Excellent bar one mistake when put under unnecessary pressure) Brownhill 7 Cork 7 Vuitihno 7 Jay 8 Tella 7. Barnes rubbish. 😞

Muric 6 stupid pass for goal and let them back in the game.
Roberts 5 continues to play like he’s sulking
Maatsan 4 brain dead.
Taylor 4 not a centre half.
THB 6 struggled 2nd half.
Cork 6 should have taken game by scruff on neck 2nd half.
Cullen 6 as above
Vitinhio 5 not a winger
Jay Rod 7 should not have been subbed.
Tella 8 as above
Brownhill 7 great goal

Bastien 5 offered little.
Barnes 3 absolute embarrassment hopefully last we see of him.
Benson 6 couple of decent runs but poor final ball again.

Absolutely coasting until the bizarre substitutions and from that point on we were totally out muscled and out fought. Real lack of leadership worringly. Big money needs spending on a centre half and striker and quickly,

Threw it away

Muric 5 There’s going to plenty of howlers and he’s clearly following instructions but sometimes he has to just clear it.
Roberts 5 a bit disappointing
THB 7
Taylor 6 not a CB
Maatsen 5 good and then the stupidity that’ll cost us over the games he’s missing
Cork 6
Cullen 6
Vitinho 6
Brownhill 7 a good player at this level
Tella 8 mom The right decision to start him but not to so him
JRod 6

Subs

Wrong subs and far too early

Barnes 4 just past it and it’s not going to improve. Offers absolutely nothing
Bastien 5 still not sure what he offers

Need a striker and commanding centre half asap. Howe esque and we’ll go nowhere playing like this. Very naive from the team and manager. Early days still though.

Muric 7.
Taylor 4. Not a CB, scared stiff to pass to Maatsen on the wing
THB 7. Class act. Needs someone as dominant playing beside him.
Roberts 5.
Cullen 6. Bad touch for their first. Definitely his worst game of the season
Cork 5. Thought he was poor.
Brownhill 7. Want to see him next to Cullen for a few games when Twines fit.
Tella 8. Took his goals well. Mistake to take him off.
Jay Rod 7. Did well in attack working the channels. Again mistake to take him off.
Vitinho 5. Too lightweight for me at the minute.
Maatsen 7. Going to be a big loss for the next few games

Barnes 1. Dreadful his pathetic attempts at diving now are embarrassing. Hopefully 13 days to bring in a striker so his days are numbered

Muric 4 - his panicky silly passes gave them impetus after they were a beaten side
Roberts 5 - exposed by the lack of tracking back ahead of him
Harwood-Bellis 7 - at times superb, brilliant assist too
Taylor 5 - badly exposed in there
Maatsen 5 - he didn’t cost us the game, we got better afterwards not worse, but was a bit childish during and after the push
Brownhill 6 - great goal but then quiet
Cork 6 - faded badly 2nd half
Cullen 6 - faded after his mistake, but came again later
Vitinho 6 - lively but no end product
Rodriguez 7 - average for him
Tella 8 - two superb finishes in hindsight got us a point

Barnes 4 - fairly anonymous but put himself about

It was a bizarre game where we had it in the bag but tossed it away will silly passing which galvanised a Blackpool side who were already looking beaten. Some of the choices were shockingly bad, Muric in particular, probably the worst keeper performance I can remember in a decade at the Turf, slightly redeemed by his saves late on.

This side will destroy sides going forward but they don’t get know how to develop tempo and grind sides down, they also don’t make the right choices when under pressure at the back. It is starting to look like we desperately need Kouyate or a.n.other to beef up that back line, personally I’d blood McNally in there now.

I can see how we could win this poor league, but something needs to gell first. At times it looks like men against boys in our favour, and at times the reverse, which doesn’t bode well for a top two finish.

Muric 5-He did redeem himself to a degree with a couple of good saves, but sorry not for me on form thus far.
Roberts 4-The way things are going Lowton might get more game time than he thought.
Harwood-Bellis 7-Another good game for me. Our only worthy defender on the day.
Taylor 5-Don't like sounding out CT because I really rate him but I don't feel he's comfortable at CB.
Maatsen 7-Probably VK's best signing thus far by a country mile, but he let himself and the club down today with his impetuousness.
Brownhill 6-Plenty of energy and well taken goal but he can be wasteful in the final third. Shoots when there's better options.
Cork 8*-Tired in the second half but for 75 mins he was head and shoulders the best player on the park.
Cullen 6-Seemed to get snuffed out in second half when Blackpool made their tactical change up front.
Vitinho 5-Offers very little for me.
Rodriguez 7-Played well and I was surprised when he was subbed.
Tella 7-Same as JayRod.

Churlinov 4-No impact
Barnes 4-No impact
Bastien 4 No impact
Benson 4 No impact

Muric 7 kept us in the game second half. Could have made a different decision for the first but is being told to play out from the back
Roberts 7 best for the defenders, little help from vitinho who doesn’t seem to want to pass to him or show for him
Taylor 6 out of position but ok
THB 6 good assist, but poor positioning for the second.
Matsen 4 awful defending for the second and stupid reaction got himself sent off
Cullen 5 at fault for the first, though under pressure he showed for it and his touch was really poor. Quiet in the game second half too
Cork 6 ok I suppose
Brownhill 7 lovely first goal but quiet second half
Tella 8 two beauties
Jay 6 great touch for JB goal and some good stuff first half
Vitinho 5 runs away from the man in possessions, not really a threat, lots of bluster but be real
Impact

Barnes 3 because I can’t give less
Bastien 5 part of a really poor second half
Darko 5 see above
Benson 5 see above

Well I think that could be described as mixed.

Muric - 6 - the ultimate curates egg. Culpable, in my opinion, for the first goal - he’s been threatening that for a while. Putting a player who is under some pressure, facing their own goal, inside their own box on their wrong foot isn’t sophisticated patient possession football, it’s stupidity, and he needs to distinguish the two fast. On the plus side, he made two or three excellent saves in the second half which ultimately secured the point.

Roberts - 5 - badly at fault for the third goal when he flew out of his back post zone to go and head the cross away, only to miss it and therefore allow it to reach an now unmarked man in acres to pick his ball back across.

Maatsen - 4 - he was having a bit of a shocker before the red card and will be particularly disappointed he didn’t stop the cross for the second goal. He has to learn from the red card - the reaction is totally disproportionate.

Harwood Bellis - 7 - two smashing raking passes in the first half and generally it was good to see him showcase a greater range of passing in the first half to allow us to make the pitch big. The mystery was why we didn’t do it more in the second half when we had more reason to do so to beat the press. A little suspect against the physicality of Blackpool’s forward players.

Taylor - 5 - again caught betwix and between at times in the second half, and I still don’t know why he didn’t come and clear out the Blackpool lad at the expense of a corner for the second goal. A player more confident in his positioning would have done I fancy. Looked miles more comfortable at left back in the last few minutes and hopefully will get some games there whilst Maatsen is out

Cullen - 6 neat and tidy but takes his share of blame for the first Blackpool goal - he should have told Muric to give it elsewhere - and got a bit bullied in the second half.

Cork - 7 - faded a little in the second half and probably should have used his experience to encourage more longer passes to best the press, but once again he was vital to our first half dominance and he won his scraps after half time.

Brownhill - 8 - took his first half goal well, and drove us forwards through that first half. Less able to get into the game in the second period but once he went centrally for the last 10 minutes he got the game by the scruff of the neck and that will give Kompany food for thought.

Vitinho - 7 - retained possession nicely and gave us an outlet for 50 minutes, although I was a bit surprised he wasn’t the first player replaced as he’d begun to fade as Blackpool got on top. A bit of composure when shooting would help.

Tella - 9 - two terrific goals and a real shift for the team - was surprised he was withdrawn.

Rodriguez- 8 - best player on the pitch technically for the hour and I was surprised as he looked that he was replaced so early.

Barnes - 6 - he actually held it OK but he was never likely to give us the sort of platform Jay did and there’s a real sense he’s living on borrowed time.

Bastien - 7 - thought he was really tidy when he came on - kept the ball and his passing was crisp. Desperately unlucky not to win it at the death.

Churlinov - 6 - lively enough and looked to get involved, and a couple of touches hinted at a player, but clearly found the pace of the game a bit to get used to.

Much of the first half was excellent. We dominated possession once again, perhaps even more so than recently, and by switching the play more ambitiously side to side, and using the threat of Tella in behind, we were able to capitalise by creating the space which resulted in all 3 goals. Tella was integral to that and the signs are he will be a top player over the season for us - and a developing understanding with Rodriguez also showed real promise.

But - even in the first half we were guilty of giving Blackpool encouragement by playing too many passes in our own box that were too risky. I’m very happy with the new style and we will make mistakes and we have to be patient with them. But equally, professional footballers at Championship level have to know that there are some red lines - and passing to players who are under pressure, on their wrong foot, is well beyond that line. Blackpool doubled down on pressing us high in the second half and changed the momentum as a result - quite why we didn’t use the ability of our defenders to play longer passes earlier to beat that press is anyone’s guess - perhaps it was the wind but it was in our favour second half and If it was that we’d best get used to it because let’s face it, it’s windy often at Turf Moor.

In the end, for 20 minutes or so we were bullied and reacted badly - we conceded far too many chances and ultimately lost our composure. The need for greater physicality was obvious and that’s something Kompany is going to have to address for this team to be successful.

They targeted Maatsen in the second half, possibly because they suspect he's defensively weak or maybe to nullify his attacking threat.

He's not really been tested defensively before today. Hopefully it was a blip.

Muric 6 - where do you begin…insane pass for their first goal, nearly messed up again but two fantastic saves. Clearly under instruction tbf but can’t have a repeat of some of that play
Roberts 6 - ok
Maatsen 4 - thought he was poor even before the silly red
Taylor 5 - he is not a centre back. Doesn’t have that drive
THB 7 - excellent use of the ball
Cork 7 - good as always
Cullen 6 - good but has to share blame for the goal
Brownhill 7 - great goal, busy
Vitinho 6 - steady away, looks to be slowly building confidence
Tella 9* - excellent, absolutely terrified them, two great goals
Rodriguez 8 - great centre forward play, taken off too early for…

Barnes 3 - utterly shocking. At least two occasions where we were in great positions and he threw himself to the floor. Looked totally off it, constantly gave up the ball.

Bastien 5 - ok

Muric 5 - don't mind what he's trying, but when there really is no pass on, you don't try and force one
Roberts 5 - wondering if Lowton might be better tbh
Harwood-Bellis 7 - Looks more than good enough, great assist
Taylor 6 - he's a left back
Maatsen 5 - easy to say "a professional footballer shoudn't react" as he did, but when you get scythed like that it can be pretty difficult
Cork 7 - tidy enough
Cullen 6 - as above bar 1st goal, gets half of the blame because he probably asked for the ball
Brownhill 7 - good goal
Tella 8* - could be class
Vitinho 5 - lightweight
Rodriguez 6 - our best option up there at the moment

Barnes 3 - he's done

Fans can do one. It is what it is at the moment, there's clearly something developing that gives us hope. If we're still looking as naive as this after 10-12 games then fair enough but it's early days and the groans today annoyed me.

Muric- 7 despite the costly error made a number of huge saves to preserve the point
Roberts 5 - rarely progressive forwards and not great defensively
THB 6 - Composed for most of the game but part of a shocking defence 2nd half
Taylor 5 - looked good but then awful 2nd
Maatsen 5 - awful 20-25 mins culminating with a stupid red
Cullen 5 - costly mistakes with the ball.
Cork 6 - looked imperious 1st half but anonymous 2nd
Vithino 8 - a real threat
Teller 8 mom - brilliant and a bit strange why we subbed him
Brownhill 7 - great goal and lots of industry
Jay - 7 led the line very well

Barnes 4 - started OK, got worse and the attempt to con a free kick instead of holding g the ball or picking a teammate when the keeper was out of his goals was unforgivable. Doesn't suit our new style at all.

Benson 5 - best of the subs but sadly only started once we were hanging on
Bastien 5 - not sure what his position really is but it's not attacking
Darko - not really on long enough and early to judge but had zero impact

We were good in the first half and deservedly in front but you cant score 3 and fail to win. Awful second half and in the end we were lucky the sending off took Blackpos wind and they settled for a point as at that point i was worried we would lose.

We were carved open tine and time again so easily and if we keep doing that we will really struggle.

Early days but some of the signs are worrying.

Muric 6 - hard to mark. Some terrible passes again, one he got away with and one he didn't. Some good saves as well today though.

Roberts 5 - some poor defending again today. I'd be trying Egan-Riley in the role he's asked to play.

Harwood-Bellis 6 - excellent distribution first half, but bullied by Blackpool's forward line second half.

Taylor 4 - absolutely awful on the second goal, and some very suspect positioning throughout. Not a centre half.

Maatsen 4 - absolutely awful on the second goal as well, and a reaction to the poor challenge that has disgraced himself.

Cork 6 - good first half as usual, but lost the battle in the second half when we desperately needed his experience and leadership out there.

Cullen 5 - caught in possession too often today. Lost the battle second half.

Vitinho 6 - a decent outlet

Brownhill 6 - another who was good in the first half, but poor in the second half. Brilliant goal.

Tella 8 - an excellent display. Stretched the game to excellent effect in the first half and produced two brilliant finishes.

Rodriguez 7 - a really good display from Jay. We went to pot when he was withdrawn.

Barnes 4 - a mostly horrendous half hour on the pitch. Should not be anywhere near us anymore. I was embarrassed for him.

Bastien 6 - did a decent job when he came on

Churlinov 5 - looks like he'll hold his own physically in this league which is important.

First half was everything we need to be. Some good, crisp passing, couple with a willingness to be more direct. Aside from the awful goal we gave away, it was excellent.

Second half was the opposite. The crowd wouldn't let us play it around the back after the goal we gave away, so we went longer with some aimless balls and played right into Blackpool's hands who then bullied us. Our left hand side in particular was atrocious defensively, with Roberts not too much better. We desperately need more defensive reinforcements if Kompany has decided McNally isn't anywhere near ready.

Also, if we don't sign another striker, it's midtable. Barnes should have left last year.

I agree. I think there were glimpses in the previous games too. I do think we would would be stronger defensively if we had Taylor left back and Maatsen further forward (I believe he successfully played further forward for Coventry a couple of times) however I also appreciate that is dependent on a new centre back too.
