Oh Burnley is wonderful….

This song is so cringeworthy, I wish we’d drop it. 50 year old men, especially, singing “for t*ts, fa**y and clarets is beyond pathetic. Nearly took my young daughter on yesterday, glad I didn’t. I accept you’re always going to get bad language in songs and as part of emotions running high it’s unreasonable to expect a “golly!” when something exciting happens.

But this song just feels so antiquated and sad, as well as the obvious fact that many of the fans we have are women and girls. Time for a new song.

I always thought the words were ‘it’s full of……..’and then we begin the list.

Every day’s a school day.

It’s “full of tits” , fanny and clarets , not ‘for tits’ …..

The worst song that some idiot ever came up with, but to be fair, it's the only one some of our more challenged fans know.

😂 I'd personally find it quite funny if the fans of a women's team sang that there town was full of c**k

On a similar point, why on earth are we bombarded with the phrase “We are the Longside” on LED boards all around the ground including, most laughably of all, on the Bob Lord Stand?

Does someone need to explain to Pace and Company what the Longside actually was?

Haha ok whether it’s full of, or for, it’s not really the bit I have an issue with😂

Perhaps it could be changed to “ it’s full of Greggs, bookies and pound shops”

agree about the song,it really is pathetic in any day and age especially now with women and girls football becoming more popular and more attending the Turf.

Disagree. The Longside doesn't exist anymore so it's a recognition, a celebration of a sprit, an atmosphere.

I never saw Kenny Dalglish in an alehouse I used to frequent but I still sing No Nay Never.

As for "Oh Burnley is Wonderful..." Yep. Such a rubbish song. One of the worst and there's competition. We really need some better ones.

Absolutely agree. I can’t sing it, it’s so childish and cringe.

We need far better chants. Watched a blog of the game yesterday and Blackpools Rangers copy sounded great. Why we can’t get one going like that is beyond me.

It's not only 50yr old men singing it, plenty of women have and still do.

If you don't take your daughter in the CF end then she probably won't hear the words sung.

Will add the Vitinho one is good but no idea why we had to add an unnecessary swear word in it.

“We are The Longside” chant actually grates my gears.

I much prefer the proper - “Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly…” chant but understand a lot of our fan base won’t understand it.

It was Bertie Bee originally but got changed to Ben Mee so not sure who you think Bertie Mee is  .

Now Mee has gone we should go back to singing Bertie Bee like we used to

The other song that needs binning is that "who's that dying on the carpet"

The one thing I don't understand is the almost weekly criticism of the CFS. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. In general are some of the songs crass? Yeah. Do we need new ones? Definitely.

But the CFS is the only place in the ground which has any sort of decent, consistent vocal atmosphere and is always my stand of choice if possible. When I'm in the Longside, you hear more crisp packets rustling than singing. Start a chant and people look at you like you're wearing blue and white halves.

It’s cringeworthy whoever sings it, young lads of 11 or 12 a just as sad. And I was in the north stand in the opposite half to the cfs, and you could hear it clearly.

The longside chant doesn't bother me. Could be sang a bit better but it's a nice nod to the past and gets the atmosphere going around the ground.

Completely agree with the OP though. Awful chant in this day and age. Wouldn't take much to tweak it to something a little more tasteful.

For the pies, beers and Clarets...

No prob with people singing it, for the reason you explain well.

Just looks and feels odd as a branding slogan on the LED boards.

Most definitely, atmosphere is great from there and this is not at all a criticism of folk in there specifically.

It's been quite the weekend for Burnley fan bashing on this board.

Don't sing that, sit down, don't boo, and pick that missile up that has hit you on your bonce and calmly put it in the bin.

Now get in the pathetic thread.

I've always thought "Rise, mill town, rise" would work well as a sort of slogan but I think I'm in the minority.

The song should be as it originally was:

Oh when the Clarets, go marching in
Oh when the Clarets go marching in
I wanna be in that number
Oh when the Clarets go marching in

I think our fans changed it in the late 80’s? I don’t join in with it now as I’ve gotten older as it is quite cringey.

14-year-old kids singing - fair enough, even those it's a naff chant.

Middle-aged blokes bellowing it out - pitiful.

The original was Bertie Mee (then Arsenal manager) long, long before Bertie Bee even existed.

I sit in the BL and have no long to sit in the cricket field but Turf Moor would be like a morgue if we didn't have the lads and lasses in there singing and creating an atmosphere.

I thought the atmosphere yesterday was brilliant and the Blackpool fans were excellent and made it a very entertaining afternoon.

You get a much more rowdy and passionate element
from clubs like Blackpool due to there small fan base than you do from the premier League clubs and it makes for a far better atmosphere.

Yes, because what we need is more policing and sterilisation of an atmosphere which is already hardly raucous and seemingly requires little stimulus to get the crowd apathetic or downright hostile towards a group of players that have spent 5 match days together.

Hardly surprising Burnley fans a labelled ‘backward’ when a song from the 80’s is thought ‘edgy’ by those who join in. A song that displays misogyny, narcism and lack of respect. You only need to walk the streets of the North West the same ignorance displayed on every street corner.

If fans need to sound like sexual predators to have ‘atmosphere’ then they lack both imagination and intelligence. I would think ‘backwards’ was a decent description, if I wasn’t a Burnley fan.

Admittedly it’s only become more noticeable for me since we started going on with young nephew but a lot of our songs aren’t suitable for kids.

And before anybody says “you expect to hear language at the match”, yes you do but he knows not to say those words so doesn’t join in singing them

Majority will sing the songs the minority dont like
And the songs are well and truly here to stay

So no they wont stop being sung

Most of our songs aren’t original and have been ripped off from other clubs

The one for Vitinho is the same as what Everton & Leeds both sung for Richarlison & Raphinia

Man Utd are the bees knees when it comes to new songs.

They have the best away fans in the country easily.

They’re version of ‘Bertie Mee said to Matt Busby’ is class and puts ours to shame, sing slow and can actually understand the words.
