Nah! we only won that 3-1, as stated above it was the MK Dons game either prior or post Brentford can't recall which.

I remember us scoring 7 against York (was that waddle? if it was I'm sure there'll be an article on the site) - when did we last score 6?

MK Dons but i bet the atmosphere was better today compared to a cold Tuesday winter night

Probably. We did 6 against Burton/Barnet/Boston/Bolton/Barnsley or someone in the league cup, but I think it was AET. Jay scored 4, I think.

So it’s over 30 years since we scored exactly 6 in a league game. Not a great stat.

I'm sure we beat Forest or someone 5-1 at home. Think Rodriguez scored from memory but I'm sure it was in his first spell with us.

I’ve been trying not to remember Grimsby 6 Burnley 5.

Had this chat on way home biggest away wins attended! Think today was my biggest. I wasn’t at Wrexham 6-2, MK Dons 5-0, Portsmouth 5-1.

Any others? Can remember a lot of 3’s away from home.

Seem to have a distant memory of going away to Bristol Rovers and we got 5. Can anyone confirm.

Scored 5 at home v Peterborough September 2012.

Can't think of any we've scored 5 at home since?

You are. Jay has scored 4 on two occasions against Burton Albion and Rochdale, both times in the league cup.

'Gis your scarf' they said as they took them off us. There was not much we could do but of course we had the last laugh. I never wore a scarf to a game after that.

Both games in September 1961 and we won 6-2 in both. For good measure the next away game was on the last day of September which we won 5-3, so a quiet 17 goals in three consecutive away games (and I only saw the first one against Birmingham).

The second of those victories at Filbert Street in midweek brought about a great report in, I think, the Daily Express where the reporter opened up with ' I'll take a slow boat to China or stand knee deep in freezing snow to watch this thrilling outfit in action' It continued along those lines and was a report that I, as a 9 year old boy couldn't resist reading again and again.

We've put 5 past them a couple of times, in the 08/09 promotion season.. when a very young Jay Rod scored that curling effort from the left wing.
We also beat them 5-1 a few years later with Steve McClaren in charge of them, Jay Rod scored that night too but can't remember too much about that one.

Anyway I and many others can top the lot as we were at Penrith......

Think we put 7 past Charlton (who had Allan Simonsen playing - European Footballer of the year). I think under John Bond we hammered Port Vale and Possibly Rotherham and York wheee we knocked in 6 or 7?

Indeed, Silkyskills1, "thrilling outfit" summed up that team perfectly and we were lucky that as young 'uns we were brought up watching such magical skills. The side probably peaked in that 1961/62 season and they were literally favourites to win every game in which they took part (with the possible exception of one) no matter whether the game was home or away.
Just looking again at September '61 we played four away games, won them all and scored 20 goals in the process. I doubt even the great Tommy Boyle side of 40 years earlier could match that sequence of results.
The scorers of those 20 goals were - Pointer (5), Connelly (5), McIlroy (4), Robson (3) and Harris (3).
What a sensational side that was.
