Unfortunately, living in Headingley seems to have given him the mentality of a Leeds fan.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 5:48 pmFilled this in just because this bloke's being an arse about it

Re: Fan rivalry survey
Filled it in. And they do actually answer LS7's question. The first paragraph speaks to the deep long-term soceietal benefit of studying rivalry; the second speaks to the transferable skills that the students are acquiring; the third reminds us (well, maybe not LS7) that it's fun. I for one will await the results with great interest.
"Why study rivalry?
Intergroup relations have profound psychological, cultural and commerce effects on society. To realize the potential of these effects for the common good, we must better understand the various antecedents and consequences of rivalries.
Also, developing and learning research methods for knowledge creation and empirical testing impacts decision-making and societal progress. This benefits everyone involved, including our students as they prepare for their careers.
Finally, it’s fun! We get to learn about fans, history, and sports. Further, the work creates a public engagement forum for our universities, thereby supporting their broad educational mission."

Absolutely. And more importantly it’s someone politely asking for help with something.Oshkoshclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 6:19 pmFilled it in. And they do actually answer LS7's question. In fairness LS7 has probably prompted more people to participate. So well done to him/her.

I doubt whether I would have completed it were it not for LS7's comment.Indecisive wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 6:29 pm

Re: Fan rivalry survey
It's interesting, I've given more points to Leeds than to Preston given than its closer from my house and I have to put up with more of their fans. If I lived in Leyland I'd guess it be the other way round. Rovers still top of my list though.
Re: Fan rivalry survey
I only really see Blackburn as our rivals. All the other Lancashire clubs I don't really care if they win or lose. I also don't buy into the 'we all hate Leeds' thing. Why should I hate Leeds? I dislike what Manchester City have become and dislike the Merseyside clubs because I hate mawkish Scousers, but they certainly aren't rivals. I think some people are just conditioned to hate certain clubs. I know Stockport fans who dislike Burnley even though they're too young to remember the 90's and Wembley etc. Probably the same with Plymouth. As for Bolton and the Coyle saga, karma dealt with them so I don't see any reason to bear a real grudge. You can only have one real rival. All the rest is just hype.

Not sure about the political questions - parochial xenophobia surely transcends political boundaries?

Parochial xenophobia? Bugger... It is true some of the Rovers fans I know are a challenge to tolerate, but I only want them to lose every week.

And any Skipton/Colne Clarets had to contend with half their town supporting Leeds

70 Rovers
20 PNE
10 Lashers
I have no rivalry with Leeds as most of my closest friends support them.

Re: Fan rivalry survey
Personally I feel as strongly (if not more so) about Leeds than Rovers based on when and where I grew up
My feelings will be forever influenced by Norman Hunter's assault on Frank Casper
Survey completed - some decent and thought provoking questions
