What a Homer. Blatant penalty, then a blatant foul on THB before their lucky goal

The foul by Bartley through the back of Jay was awful, he didn’t even give a free kick. As for the handball, the liners on that side looking at it. Shocking tonight.

The refs in the championship are dreadful
VK needs to make a note of it, opposition teams getting away with loads of hacks at our boys
In the Prem we have 2 pens and they’re down to 10 men, absolute facts

Dreadful Homer ref. Felt like we were treading on egg shells to make a tackle or we give away a free kick, but they could basically do what they liked

No VAR I just want Refs and Liners to do their job properly.

The ref isn't going to see everything, for example the second penalty. For those who were happy to see the back of VAR, well, chances are we get a second penalty and possibly get to play against 10 men. But that's the deal when you have to rely solely on the ref.
What I didn't see the ref do was miss a sitter, (twice) fail to square for a one on one, miss a similar square ball for another one on one and clear a ball with his wrong foot.
The ref was far from the reason we dropped points.

Shocking that tonight.
Missed two blatant fouls in the lead up to their goal. Firstly on JBG and then on THB.
Not sure if he had a view of the handball but that was a stone Waller.

Awful ref but we can't blame him if we keep allowing a team to keep coming at us.

Just being honest but I’d rather have a bad ref than VAR. it’s hurt us tonight but we’ve had decisions with us this season already.

Absolutely and totally 1000% not the reason we dropped points, the performance was the reason however the ref needs highlighting. Failed to even give a free kick for the tackles on JBG and Jay Rod, both of which warranted yellow. The pen fair enough, possibly argue can’t see it, VAR gives that every time.
However I’d still prefer ref performances like tonight than the whole c@@p that comes with VAR.
We dropped points because we were below par, they did deserve the goal as annoying as it is. However it is still a point. Beaten only once so far this season.

But we need VAR because the officials have shown they are incapable of doing their job properly.
Even with VAR they are incapable.
We really need to start downgrading refs for these mistakes, they need incentivising to do the job properly.

Blatant handball missed for a pen.
Blatant foul on JBG in our box just before they scored.
Didn't even stop the game when JBG was clearly fouled nevermind give us a free kick.
Bartley straight through the back of Rodriguez, nothing.
GK injured on the floor, play on.
Another unfit incompetent referee

About 15 minor free kicks not given for us, but similar given for the home side.
As well as the big decisions already given.

This won't be popular either but refs have clearly been directed to let things go a bit more and bring physicality back into the game. I like it. We spent too much time going down too easily in the first half. **** refs struggle to know the difference between a proper foul and a dive. So it becomes a lottery when they blow up. Maybe if we stayed on our feet a bit more we might win the actual free kicks when it matters. We need to adapt to the reality of the league.

He was a crap ref but he’s not the reason we’ve not come away with 3 points. Poor finishing is why.
The handball pen, how is he or the lino going to see that? It took a reversed angle to see that.
Not 100% sure where 8 minutes comes from though or why some of those yellows were yellows.

Where were these? I had to look back.
I saw the original cross that JBG headed away. Looked like he might’ve got an elbow to the head, but he got straight up. Arguably should’ve stayed down and claimed a head injury. Don’t think we can claim a foul for that though.
Didn’t see THB fouled at all?
Agree the pen was nailed on.

I get your point, but both tackles were from behind and absolutely blatant. Nothing to do with diving or play acting in those scenarios.

Shocking ref. Missed blatant handball, a dreadful challenge on JBG, numerous tackles from behind and somehow came up with 8 mins added time.

At Wigan last week there were 3 goals, 9 subs and a lengthy stoppage for Darikwa's injury in the 2nd half. 3 or 4 mins were added.
No idea where 8 mins came from tonight because there wasn't anything like that number of stoppages.

I agree. But my point is that our previous acting was in the refs mind. Doesn't excuse him not giving the free kick but it's just what happens in reality.

We have to play the hand we are dealt.
He certainly want great and definitely missed a few things. Ultimately though it was our own poor performance that was the biggest issue tonight, not the poor performance of the referee.
It categorically, definitely, certainly, blatantly was not the ‘worse ref ever’.

Personally I'm far more sick and tired of players diving than I am of poor refs. Football is an industry where everyone sets out to cheat and then blames the ref for making a mistake. Double standards.

8 minutes added time?
The foul on JBG? Awful
Missed penalty, could hear the ball hit arm on sky.
The foul on Jay Rod?
4 howlers by a 5hit scared ref.

I’d completely agree that our own failings were more to blame. Kompany said so and I agree.
Nearly sneaked one & id say our luck so far deserved it.
But I did think it was a pen & a real shame we don’t have VAR for these situations imo.

Problem is, who wants to be a ref ? Pundits all ex pro's moan none of them decided to be a ref, we moan anyone on here volunteering to go up through he ranks to become one ? Ex managers blaming their sacking on refs, again none becoming refs, just what is the solution agree to disagree like we did as kids playing in the park then a fee kick, penalty etc was decided with the flick of a coin or the biggest hardest kid said free kick and all agreed.

As I remember it, the Burnley physio came on twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and the WBA physio once. Roberts certainly had a lengthy stoppage for his injury, and Muric had to be treated twice. With 8 subs in 5 stoppages as well, and with a bookig for time wasting, I don't think 8 minutes is unreasonable.
As for this being the worst ref ever, those comments don't come from people who have watched us in the Championship before. Lee Mason at Barnsley, anyone? Or was it Darren Deadman who gave the Duff penalty at Huddersfield, which was only wrong because it wasn't deliberate, it didn't hit his hands, and it was outside the box?

Championship team fans always moaned online how bad the refs were. I thought to myself they can't be that much worse than the prem ones (given they were bad enough). How right they were.
The second biggest league in the country and this is the best they can come up with? Unfit and oblivious to everything. I'm not a fan of VAR by any means but it's actually needed more in this league than the Prem because of the pure incompetence.

VAR would be all right if they didn't use it to change the rules. If they would only agree to treat offside the way it has always been, ie. "level" has a meaning, then it would perhaps be bearable.
As it is, with or without decisions like tonight, the game is more enjoyable without it. And if we win some, we lose some, so be it. I'm old enough now to shrug my shoulders and move on.

Totally believe VAR should be in the championship. The way we play our football now VAR would be very beneficial for us. I think already this season we would have had 4 more penalties, two opposing goals disallowed and at least 3 opposing players sent off. We would have ( with the help of VAR) in my opinion had an extra 5 points and a much healthier goal difference. That’s only after 8 games. Imagine what the final tally is going to be!

Awful but our sitting off costs 2 points
8 mins a total joke but it's another point nearer promotion at a ground where we get sod all usually. 4 points at 2 difficult away grounds is a good return, but to drop points to a poor side like WBA is frustrating.
