Good point

Post by RVclaret » Fri Sep 02, 2022 10:34 pm

Tonight was the first proper test against quality Championship players.

While it’s a bitter blow conceding so late, that is a sound and deserved point overall.

That’s now 1 defeat in 8 for this team and I simply did not expect that prior to the season kicking off.

A lot to learn from tonight for the team and VK, while the new players continue to be blended into the team.

2nd in the league for tonight! Onto Norwich next week.

As someone said on another thread, not many sides will win there this season and we almost did playing our worst game so far

Personally think it was. Wallace, Swift and Diangana are top quality Championship performers. West Brom a lot more impressive than Watford.

I agree on the whole though I probably wouldn’t have complained had we lost. We had chances but on the balance of play, we were way off the levels we have shown so far.

had it been us who scored in the 98th minute to nick a point after the performance we would have been more than happy. Cracking point

Agree - as Kompany said we looked jaded tonight. Still some excellent performances in there from a few though.

Yep. Ultimately it is a good point. Just disappointing to let 2 slip so late.

However that's 6 unbeaten now and second in the table albeit with a game played more.

I think its showed we can be there or thereabouts

Decent point given the heavy schedule, and the fact we'd won our last 2, thankfully we've got a week until the Norwich game now for the lads to recover.

There was a time when I would dread going to The Hawthorns. Tonight showed to me we’ve moved up in the grand scheme of things. And to think we’ve built this side in 8 weeks?!

Before the game I'd have taken a point, we were second best tonight overall. Just the ref spoiled the game a bit for me. On to the next one.

It was how late the goal was that really grates, before then we had defended so well, onwards and upwards.

exactly correct

If you offer every team in the division a point at the Hawthorns they take it

It's a good point. We're nowhere near the real deal yet but we're good enough. I was talking to one of my Sheff Utd supporting mates in the pub tonight who wrote uus off as mid-table a few weeks ago but genuinely fears us now.
A late equalising opposition goal always makes it feel like a defeat but our prospects are brilliant.

The best team we’ve played so far. We rode our luck and not one of our better performances but we got a point.
The first team that’s made it hard for our possession game to be dominant. We’ll learn loads from that

On my way back Up Norf... West Brom were very good tonight, personally I thought better than Watford. A good number of our lads looked a little tired, a very good point imo. 7 days until the next one. Break will be good for the lads. UTC.

I’m absolutely gutted with not getting 3 points from that. I’d have taken a point before kick off, and maybe even on 85 minutes the way game was going against us, but it’s always hard conceding so late.

Hey ho
That's exactly what i said, and fortuantly or unfortuantly i was sat in a west brom box, i think personally a point was a fair result but its the conceeding so late on that spoils it, we should have gone 2 up with the churlinov effort but we didn't, all the baggies in our box had gone in for more drinks while we stayed and watched, they had conceded defeat by then but lucky for them their side hadn't

Played 8, including a relegated side, 2 losing playoff sides and the best side not to make the playoffs. All but a single one of those were away.

Done well so far. We have thrown a few points away but are still up there. Tonight was a good point, albeit a lucky one due to their bad finishing.

Yes I think we have to take that point as a good point. West Brom's lack of a cutting edge will likely cost them the chance of automatic promotion at the end of the season but it will be a surprise if they are not challenging for a play off position. I predict they will get an awful lot of draws.
We are better then we showed tonight and one of the pleasing things for me was the defensive resilience we showed against a team that had control for most of the game and only got a point because of a bad mistake with basically the last kick of the match.
Surely if we can get an away point against one of the better teams in the division playing below par that augers well for the rest of the season.

Not sure about it being lucky.

What about our bad finishing?

We had some of the best chances of the match.

Good point from me against the benchmark of a good SB team. Even better when you think that is not our best group as we have 4 or 5 players yet to be introduced to the team which potentially makes us better still.

If you only concede in the 98th minute after a blatant foul on our player followed by another blatant error, I would say an unlucky point - deserved or not

We are weeks into the season and you are using the table as a measure of the quality of sides. Plenty of clowns in the championship pantomime...

A laughometer would be more appropriate I think.

I used to use a hodometer/odometer when I was a groundsman. It was especially useful for setting out running tracks.
