Saw The Killers at the Riverside a few months back. Superb gig!

Love this track. Want this for my funeral (which I hope isn't for a while yet!):
"...wave goodbye, wish me well, you've gotta let me go..."

Don't think it's meant to make sense - apparently inspired by Hunter S Thompson.
Don't mind the Killers. Prefer their Springsteen-y 'heartland rock' stuff surprisingly.
Pressure Machine off their recent album was great -

Nor me, but it's a great song.
Wasn't it written about his parents? (not that that helps to explain it).

"While some have argued that Flowers lyrics aren't grammatically correct, others have claimed that he actually sings “denser” instead of “dancer”. In an interview with MTV, Flowers confirmed that the lyric was “dancer” and that it was taken from the Hunter S. Thompson quote - 'We're raising a generation of dancers"

Takes me back to dropping in to one of the Rovers' boards a few years back. There was a poster on there called Are we human or are we Dingles?
It always made me chuckle.

Their song "Mr Brightside" is very reminiscent of talking about Jesus.

Do you have to have created something to give opinions on art?
If that's the case, do we have to play sports to criticise teams? Do we have to be politicians to criticise politicians? etc

huge difference between passing an intelligent educated comment on something rather than "they are ****"

Saw them around the time their first album came out in tiny venue, still to this day the worst gig I’ve ever been to.

Music is personal taste and I have lots of popular bands that don’t suit me but why do so many on here feel the need to tell us?

Interesting lyrics but what do they really mean?
It sounds (to me) like letting go of the life you have (do to disappointment/dissatisfaction) and starting another with less ties and restrictions (the dancing puppet has it’s strings cut). Here’s an interesting and more detailed ‘interpretation’ from the internet.
“General Comment
This is an intriguing track. Although not as strong lyrically as others, still the Killers provoke thought.
I think the imagery speaks of 'dancers' as almost like 'puppets'. Brandon is speaking of letting go, "platform of surrender" "cut the cord" "close your eyes, clear your heart" This "letting go" is to cease to be "Human" because he no longer has life, (eyes closed, cleared heart) and he feels like a "Dancer", a puppet on strings.
The puppet versus human contrast is throughout. To be human is to have life and choice. To be dancer is to be controlled by strings or "cords"
He uses a play on words, instead of "vital signs" his "signs are vital" and "my hands are cold", i.e. lifeless, he is lifeless, and reading his signs are vital in knowing what he really is. He goes on to "say goodbye" to everything (soul and romance, etc), embarking into that "open door"
Like a slouched puppet, he's on his knees. Puppets have no strength in their legs. Yet he wants to "be let go" and to "cut the cord" could refer to losing his strings and being freed from control, no longer being a puppet. Or it could refer to no longer being human. If you "cut the cord", you pull life support on someone. In mythology, The Fates, "cut your cord" and you die, no longer with the life that makes one Human.
The great thing about this song is I can't figure out if he decided he is "human" or "dancer" and maybe he hasn't decided either, "Am I human....or am I dancer."
Great song after a couple of listens, gotta love the Killers.”

I really, really do not like this genre of music and band. That said, Mr Brightside was my karaoke song of choice at our garage bbq last night. Killer song and great to do inside cycling to

When this was in the charts my youngest son was about 5.
He used to sing along ‘ are we human or are we cleaners’
We used to laugh as it made no sense, but then neither do the real lyrics

“Read my Mind” is a terrific song, but I’m not really keen on anything else they’ve done.

I sort of agree with you in a sense the killers and Coldplay are just a whole lot of nothingness, grey music as such.

Forgot about that one - it really is. I think they’re much better when they’re not as ‘bombastic’ and a bit more subtle.

Tailed off in the later years in my opinion but first three albums were outstanding. From then on it's just a couple of tracks per album.
Sam's Town is probably the strongest of them all. Underrated tracks include.
Andy Your A Star
For Reasons Unknown
Everything Will Be Alright
Spaceman
Bones
I think a sign of a great band is they have a song for every mood you're in and The Killers achieve this.
