Today's footie 4/9

Post by tiger76 » Sun Sep 04, 2022 12:18 pm

Reading already a goal up against Stoke, and if they win that game they'll be sitting 2nd, not what I and many others would have predicted.

Brighton-Leicester

Man U-Arsenal

The 2 PL games

But a couple of interesting ones in the Champ.

Hudders-Blackpool

Hull-Sheff U

Good point about Reading. They've had a great start which nobody could've predicted.

Not even their fans could have predicted!

Their squad is super thin though, I’d say it’s likely they’ll slip down before too long.

Stoke’s keeper and defending for the goal just now was quite funny.

It’s a case of them building the points quickly with reading to give them the best chance of survival when their inevitable drop down the league happens

Reading look like a team where you can always see a fair few of goals in their game- for or against. They lost 4-0 away to both Sheff United and Rotherham (maybe its just south Yorkshire air) but, wonderfully, hammered Rovers 3-0 at home.
Maybe a goal or two still to come in this game v Stoke.

BHA v Leicester-
Would be very interesting if Leicester lose and remain bottom on one point, pressure would really be on the manager. BHA doing well this season, especially in defence and well favourites - watch out Brendan.

Man U v Arsenal. I hope Arsenal continue their good form (not least because I have 3 Gunners in my Fantasy Footy team :) )

I'll go for: Hudders to beat Blackpool. 'Ull v Blades- score draw.

Hendrick pedestrian as usual
Delap anonymous so far
Stoke giants dangerous for us from set pieces
Otherwise two fairly unimpressive teams if you ask me

2-1 Reading. Another defensive error from Stoke to gift them a pen.

Not easy for Delap to make an impression, as a forward he needs good service, which he ain't getting today so far.

I think Reading’s position tells you how inconsistent this league is. I believe they will do well to finish mid table. But they have started well. From what I’ve seen Burnley, Sheffield United, Norwich and Watford have the potential to dominate this division… but consistency is key… and will only really settle down in another few weeks.

With Paul Ince in charge of Reading makes you think they'll struggle.

Defensively terrible. I know a guy who lives not far from Leicester who could organize the defence for them.

Leicester look a shambles at the back, and Brighton are full value for their lead,.

Can't see this finishing 2-1 given how open it is.

BHA only let in 3 goals before today in 5 games (only 1 in their 2 home games). All going a bit off-course today for them for some reason. Looks to be more or less their usual squad (minus the guy who went to Chelsea a few games back).

Going to the monitor to check for offside? What a nonsense. It's either off or not isn't it?

He was offside though by a fair distance. Took far too long to make the decision but it was the correct one.

I think it was so the ref could make the decision on whether he was interfering with play, rather than to judge if he was in an offside position

Seen on BBC there was an issue putting the lines on the pitch showing if offside or not so they asked ref to check the monitor.

Not sure what it showed on TV as currently watching F1.

Leicester caught 3 or 4 of the Brighton players offside, why should Leicester be punished by an inept linesman? Just because it was a good goal? Clearly offside, clearly interfering with play, the only issue is it took so long for them to get the correct decision.

Exactly how I see it. Allowing the goal would've been the incorrect decision. So VAR did its job but did take far too long.

I could have given that decision in 10 seconds, just looking at the still image you could see he was offside.

Brighton 3-2, Leicester all over the place defensively without Kaspar, Ricardo and Fofana. Soyuncu not even in the squad, he was very good before that long injury.
