Serious question….in the event of the Queen’s death, do sporting fixtures get cancelled?

To be fair I don't think the person is complaining but might, quite reasonably, have to make practical arrangements.

I believe historical precedent suggests that tomorrows match and the weekend games would not go ahead.

The country would enter ten days of national mourning, I think the state funeral would be classed as a Bank Holiday also. I wouldn’t expect sporting events returning until after that has taken place (if she passes).

Nothing mentioned in Operation London bridge about the cancellation of sporting events from what I've seen.
Maybe if they fall on the day of the funeral, which would be scheduled for 10 days after she dies, but other than that life will go on as normal.

It isn't classed as a bank holiday, I've just been reading it.
It's down to the discretion of employers as to whether or not they're open etc.

If she died during the world cup (say) I can't see the England team being withdrawn. Its sad for the family, its a historical moment for the country, but shouldn't affect day to day life. As Quoon says, crack on.

What about games (e.g cricket, golf) that are part-way through?

Not sure you can just stop everything at a moments notice. A lot of planning and work goes in. Maybe give some notice for a days mourning for people that want to mourn.

I remember being annoyed when Diana died in that car crash and they cancelled the Super Sunday match, sure it was Liverpool v Newcastle. Our Hyndburn Memorial Sunday League fixture against the Bull's Head went ahead as scheduled, not sure if that sets a precedent though.

Bleeding well hope they don't cancel tomorrow's fixture, and if they do I won't be chuffed.

Yes it's a sad event when a head of state dies, but life has to continue in some manner, we can't just stop everything.

And for purely practical reasons I don't see how they can consider cancelling footy games, the calendar is already packed is it is due to the looming WC.

Personally I much prefer a minute's applause, the problem with the minutes silence is it only takes one numpty to totally ruin the moment.

I suspect every sports event will be cancelled as no-one will want to be accused of lack of sensitivity.

Billy , I am a loyal royalist who will folow the D-Day proceedings (but not 24/7) but your comment about Nicholas Witchell made me smile , and I then thought that perhaps instead of when some one commits a crime they instead of having months or yrs in prison they could be given ear phones and forced to listen to him doing comentry on different subjects, I then thought that this could not happen as it would be consided as inhumane and the said criminal being given compensation.

Interesting, I had read that it would be classed as a National Holiday - but yes, can suspect that some employers will reject that (particularly retail, dining etc you'd think?).

I suspect the Queen's view would be that events and life should continue as normal, she strikes me as a " The show must go on " sort ...

Be very disappointed if so - the notion that we have to chose between mourning and sporting events is a bit of a false dichotomy.

One can mourn and also life can continue…

Surely we can't stop the whole country for 10 days, and why should sporting events be singled out?
Would we (e.g.) cancel concerts and theatre performances (inc. The Last Night of the Proms??)
Would the Queen want horse racing to be cancelled for almost a fortnight?
And would it be a blanket ban? (i.e. just professional sport or all levels)
What about European games? Surely it wouldn't be fair or practical to cancel games in the Champs league etc, which have a tight schedule and for which fans from across Europe will already have made travel arrangements?

Hope do can't make the Norwich have due to work commitments
