Lots of family and friends companies have given them the day off fully paid, place I work still yet to make a decision.

Wonder if those who seem to take great delight in letting you know how much they object to the Queen will be having the day off rather than choosing to work

Paid bank holiday for me and my wife (we work in Further & Higher Education), which is good since I'll have to pay the childcare despite my son's nursery being shut as they have us on the hook for bank holidays in their terms & conditions.

Looking forward to a well deserved day off. That said, I don't think it should be a bank holiday given we're seeing hospital appointments being cancelled. Give people a couple of hours to watch the funeral by all means but there are more important things.

What about those of us who aren’t fans of The Royal Family who have no choice but to have the day off?

My day is entirely dependant on what restaurants are open.

If they're open, I'm working, if not I'll be binge watching something on TV.

As with all bank holidays I can choose to work or not.

I’ll be working this one.

Company I work for is shut for the day (barring those who are on out of hours/unsociable hours contracts, as per other BH's), paid.

It's an odd one really isn't it, my 5 year old Daughter will be off school so me and the Wife (who works for a Charity, and has also been given the day off paid) will need to think of something to do for the day with her, but everything is understandably shut. I will take in the funeral but unsure what else to do with the day off. We'll probably take the Dog out for a long walk in the afternoon and pack a picnic or something.

Don't get me wrong - I ain't looking the gift horse in the mouth when it comes to a free paid day off - but it's a bit weird really as people will be wondering what to do with themselves after the funeral (if they're even watching). Probably a lot of people doing DIY I suspect.

I don't believe in god either.... Is it OK if I take Xmas day off?
How many times are you going to make this non-point?

Fully paid day off (also higher Ed) for both me and Mrs Z. We’re welcoming the time off, and we’re doing a practice run for Christmas Day… doing nothing at all!

I'll be enjoying myself on a nice day off. Hoping for nice bit of September weather for a pint or two in my local beer garden.

Got it paid off from work, so already lined up a quick freelance job. Not like there's going to be anything to do, might as well make a bit extra.

On a serious note, pretty shocking how they've cancelled hospital appointments. And it'll tip some small businesses closer to the edge. But we lost track of reality a while ago with this, might as well just wait for it to be over now. Only another 6 days to go.

Don’t know where you work but patients are being contacted to see if they still want their appt/op on Monday before being sessions are cancelled

The guidance from the Gov was that the delivery of essential services should continue during the period of National Mourning, including the Bank Holiday.

If the NHS choose to cancel operations it’s not because they have been told to close.

We're open as normal, well at least the area of the university I work in, no idea if we'll get paid extra or not due it being a public holiday, as it happens I'm quite happy to be working, as others have alluded to it's not like there will be many places open anyway, so might as well go to work.

Was talking to an MD at a big construction firm who employ thousands of people.

They said it was costing them £365k to give their staff a paid day off.

I've been given the day off, but been given the option of a day in leu, if I can't spare the time to sit around on that day.

I think it's at the companies discretion, so not sure it will affect small businesses too much.

I'm not sure why the NHS is cancelling appointments, given the advice, but it doesn't surprise me one bit

I've been retired for 17 years now and this is the big disadvantage of retirement, you simply don't get bank holidays and the such like any more. You don't how lucky you people are.

Not cancelled. Patients will receive a telephone consultation this week ( not Monday out of respect for HRH Queen Elizabeth II) and extra clinics being arranged for those who need to be seen face to face.

It's not a full service out of respect for the Queen. Emergency surgery, cancer surgery and surgery deemed a clinical priority will go ahead.

Nobody seems to mind services being cancelled for the 8 other Bank Holidays per year.

I do think some Respect is in order on this message board. 70 years serving her country.

Sadly Respect is something the younger generations seem to lack. Respect should be earned and she most definitely earned it.

Ha.. that's a good one, nothing says #respect like kicking folk out of their holiday home for the day.

Best one yet is British Cycling advising people not to cycle during the funeral. I reckon even some of the most staunch posters on here would struggle to beat that for top class respecting.

That's the point many miss. They don't realise the financial cost involved and even think it's of secondary concern.
