Beyer & Zaroury

Post by RVclaret » Tue Sep 13, 2022 10:26 pm

Two debutants tonight.

Beyer looked composed and made one very good block in the second half. Clearly decent on the ball.

Zaroury gives me Benrahma vibes, really liked the look of him, beat his man every time?

Thoughts?

Get Zaroury in from the off against Bristol City. Confident, direct - very exciting.

Benson had loads of the ball but I wasn’t convinced by his delivery or decision making personally. That right wing spot is up for grabs between four of them still.

Beyer was solid, made a THB-esque run out of our half too. Very clearly confident on the ball.

Promising from the winger in particular. Will be interesting to see how he copes with getting roughed up by opposing teams, which I'm sure will happen a lot. Benson seems to be coping a bit better with it

Zaroury looks a player but very young, new to the league so will need managing - both by the management and then fans. Beyer looked very assured but not really pressured.

We’re still a work in progress, we need to get better and find that killer pass but plenty to be pleased about. Loads of options and a point away at the great leveler that is a local derby. Keep the faith, bring on Saturday

I think both Benson and Zaroury are impact players at the moment. Beyer on the other hand looks to be ready to start now Charlie is injured.

Zaroury looks like he'll terrify defenders if he runs at them.

Think Zaroury and Tella can be very dangerous. I think it looks like teams in our Division are going to kick Benson around to unsettle him. Beyer looked composed and will I think start on Saturday. THought VK might have used more subs tonight, with possibly Brownhill coming off. Maatsen in 10 minutes was brilliant and was getting behind their back line

We've got so many options all fighting for 1 spot, I thought Zaroury looked good tonight but barely touched the ball. I think the pick of the bunch is Churlinov

Thought Beyer was a forward, as it’s says on the squad list.

He looked very composed and good crisp passer of the ball.

Thought Zaroury looked brilliant. Had his man on toast every time & picked the right options each time. I thought JRod was knackard at the end and behind the play. With a fresher striker, may’ve had a debut assist.

Bayer also really assured. Which is positive because we’ll need him now. VK said Charlie’s injury was the most serious of the two.

Agree with the OP, liked the look of both. If they can play like that consistently they should both be starting.
Early days of course, but it will be interesting to see.

if Maatsen and Zaroury hit it off down the left side then I wish the rest of the Championship right backs the best of luck. I just wish VK had brought them on earlier

Obviously nowhere near the same level but Zaroury reminds me a bit of Mahrez in his playing style based on the highlights I’ve seen, mainly the feinting to pass followed by the drag back the other way that he appears to do a lot.

Zaroury and Maatsen down the left to start against Bristol would be my choice. Keep with Benson on the right because it will really stretch defences but Brownhill has to bust a gut to get into the box to support the striker. 60 mins in change out Brownhill for Bastien. Simples :)

I'm reluctant to criticise Benson as he clearly has talent and it's early days. But Zaroury looked the opposite of Benson in the 15 minutes he had. Needed much less time on the ball and made an impact every time he had it. Exciting prospect. Nice to have options with plenty more to come from both.

A cameo appearance for Zaroury near the end but immediately incisive compared with Tella and Benson. His late cross into the box from the left wing sadly found too few Claret shirts but hopefully the large number of draws will force a more urgent style of play and we'll start to convert into wins. I was a little surprised that the wingers didn't swap wings to mix things up, or maybe they are distinctly left/right sided.
Beyer saved our blushes with one key block. It would have looked embarrassing if we'd run up 70% possession with all of that pretty passing around the box only for one of PNE"s few breaks resulting in conceding another late goal.

I like to write players off within 45 minutes of seeing them, but for balance, I'm also happy to declare Zaroury the greatest player in the Championship after 20 minutes. I'm half serious, every touch of the ball - all half a dozen of them - were inch perfect. He's basically Messi.

Benson getting kicked around. Why are the referees allowing repeated fouls on him and not carding some one? Early card should stop it.

Thought Beyer looked nervous when he first came on and was a little worried, but didn't take long for him to settle and show composure, alleviating my fears, but need to see him for a full 90/game to be sure, perhaps he gets his chance this weekend.

Zaroury slotted in nicely and he seems a good squad player for the numerous other players we have in the same mold, think we'll see a lot of rotation's in the wide positions this year, expect them all to have good games and days off where they'll be substituted at some point.

Seems we have a good squad, but little height in the middle and therefore an unwillingness to sling balls in from wide positions when they get in a good position/space to do so. Many sides will limit the space and allow us possession and out wide, but deny us the byline, a different strategy has to be found for these games

Beyer did look very good when he came on, he seemed to be in control positionally and I noticed he made passes with both feet. The other big plus is, he gives us more height in defence, which we will need in the Championship.

Where are the people wanting Zaroury to start playing Tella? I'd be tempted to start Zaroury on the right, but results with Gudmundsson there have been better than anyone else so it's JBG's shirt for me. Zaroury/Benson both look like impact players who suit coming on against tired defenders.

Beyer looked rapid and decent on the ball but suspect we will miss Taylor's left-footedness.

I raised the point a couple of games ago that a number of posters who were giving players ratings seemed to have an agenda against certain players and it appears that once again they don't watch the games with much understanding of what actually is happening on the pitch. The scores given for Zaroury in the main are a joke. Posters on this thread clearly have a better picture of a players' ability and input. Zaroury to my mind not only made a big and positive improvement to our play but he is clearly going to scare defenders out of their wits with pace, vision, tactical nous and technical ability. VK has a difficult problem to solve as to who is going to be playing up front for us. I think he is going to be a massive player for us. Beyer given how long he has had to adjust to being in a new team looked assured, solid and can carry the ball forward with confidence and looks like he will be challenging for a regular spot. Both are very good news for us.

Even though I wanted us to get the ball forward quicker and more often as the minutes were ticking away, it’s good to see that the players are playing to instruction. We really don’t need a Plan B. We just need to keep improving how we deliver our Plan A. As we continue to improve and play more instinctively I’m sure our results will improve. It even took City a while before they got it right if I remember correctly. I also think we need to stop worrying about VK knowing his best 11. It’s now a squad game. If we ever find our best 11 it will mean that our substitutes are inferior. I like it like this. I like the fact that I enjoy the anticipation when our subs are warming up.

I thought this was a bit of an odd post so I've just had a look at the ratings thread and, yes, it's an odd post. Most people give him a 7 (good) which is bang on. He was definitely good. There were a few 6s but there's a clear majority of 7s.

It's quite hard to rate players at the minute, as most fans don't instantly recognise our new players.
