No idea but I think our Ashley is past his best, we’d be better off unloading him.

Dunno, but it’s clear as the nose on your face this new system isnt really gonna suit his game.
Been a huge fan over the years, one of the best VFM players we have EVER had, but no time or place for sentiment here. He should be moved on.

I thought, for a brief moment, that Ash might have been useful against Brizzle when we were playing Walking Football and apparently getting nowhere towards the end of the first half. You know, his customary nuisance value.
The team talk, the changes and their effect proved that, sadly, his time at BFC is as good as over. He has no part to play.

Not that I'm aware of, but clearly he's way down the pecking order now we've signed a couple of strikers, and unless we suffer a huge injury crisis it's hard to see Ash playing much during the rest of the season.

He gave us some great memories and proved to be a snip for the money we paid at the time (I think around 700k?) but I'm afraid he hasn't the pace, movement or skill to keep up with the other 10 players. Can see him going in January.

Don’t think he is, I just think time has caught up with and sadly, these days, he’s a bit crap.
No shame in that, he’s been great at times but he’s declined slowly but surely in recent years with injuries also playing a part to the point he’s no longer effective in games.

Has been completely ineffective in this new set up. Rodriguez and Dervisoglu are ahead of him, plus Churlinov and Twine maybe.

He did a job at the beginning of the season when we had injuries to others and limited options let's not forget.
He's been a great servant during his time here, but this should be his last season with us.
If he isn't in the matchday squad it's because we have other options better suited to our managers preferred style/formation.
If he's still not playing in January but is match fit then I think the club should consider letting him go for free to another club

Im sure the club would love to let Barnes leave for nothing but he earnt himself an option to extend his contract and as he's not gonna get those wages elsewhere Id be very surprised if he chooses to leave before next summer.
Best option for me would be to loan him out so we can recoup some money and Barnes can use it to impress lesser clubs who might want to sign him in the summer.
I reckon he'd be a great asset to a Championship club battling at the bottom or a league 1 club gunning for promotion.

Given Preston's inability to score (3 in 10 games) could that be a mutually beneficial loan for Ashley ?

Think he’s good to have around the place - he’s had two promotions from this division remember

I think that Super Ashley Barnes still has something to offer - just needs a goal to restore his confidence.

It would certainly keep Preston’s goal rate down.

Not even sure he'd pull up any trees in the league below now.

Memories of when players were useful is not helpful when assessing their current value to the side

An absolute disgrace he's not being picked.
He's guaranteed 20 goals a season at this level

You never know what injuries we could pick up . Plus could well be used against Crawley and early FA cup games.

Barnes has been great business for us. He’s given us a lot of joy these past 8 years, but is 2 years past his best. He doesn’t fit this new style at all, and probably needs a loan somewhere if he’s desperate to play. If he’s fine being a squad player we may need an odd 20 minutes from him here or there.

Did he cost us the points at Leeds last season and someone got him mixed up with Brownhill

I used to love Barnes but I genuinely don’t want to see him play for us again. He’s just a cheat now that plays for set pieces that we aren’t even effective at anymore. Thanks for everything but time to move on.

Sadly his days are over, except if we have a major striker injury crisis. He was finished at the start of LAST season. Playing him will only deprive one of our other players a chance of appearing. If we get short in that area it makes more sense to play Costelloe
