My beloved and myself will be spending next week in the beautiful surroundings of Rossendale,it's my Wife's 63 birthday and I really need to spoil her with a really good meal somewhere for putting up with me and my gross habits...anyone been to Northcote Manor recently?
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated,anywhere in Lancashire really we might even be brave and venture into Yorkshire.

The Coniston Hotel & Spa between Gargrave and Hellifield have a nice Restaurant, if you go there ask for a table that looks over the lake. It’s in a beautiful setting and of course it’s in Yorkshire.

Just reading the reviews on this saying the restaurant is dog friendly....added bonus,but the review wasn't brilliant because it's dog friendly,Hobo our dog would just sit under the table quietly have you ever been here and seen dogs in the restaurant.....just find it unusual that they allow dogs

Steve. No when we’ve been there weren’t any dogs that I can remember. There are people of course that are not keen on dogs which may have affected the reviews. If you were keen I’d ring and talk to them, mention it’s your wife’s birthday so you want a table with a view. Perhaps even consider going at lunchtime in the hope it’s a bright day for those lovely views.

Parkers Arms near Clitheroe. Free Masons at Wiswell. Aspinall Arms Mitton.

You are narrowing down your options a bit if Northcote is youe ideal place.

Cotton House in Helmshore can be a bit hit and miss but it's not bad. Rawtenstall has a few place but not sure how dog friendly they are...! Same with Rammy.

Or, if you are a bit artsy and can find someone to look after the dog the Northern Quarter is only 20 mins down the road and you can find something interesting down there.

If Northcote is your benchmark then the only alternative I would suggest is the Aspinall Arms after a trot round Tolkien's Trail with the dog.

I would normally agree but I am quite close to some of the staff there and am aware that they have a lost a significant amount of their kitchen staff and there’s a feeling the quality has suffered. If you’re taking in the experience as a whole, with a walk around the grounds or usage of the Spa then by all means, but if the focal point is the meal you may be left a bit disappointed especially if you’re coming out this way specifically.

Sycamore Farm in Burnley near Lowerhouse cricket club. Does the best Sunday roasts for miles around and does them every day of the week, plus it has a brilliant pub menu as an added bonus if you're not in the mood for a full Sunday dinner.

We will go anywhere (Sycamore Farm excluded) the dog happily sits in the motor,I'm from Rawtenstall, have you been to that new Indian that has set up in the old Craven Heifer pub we like the Nila for a takeaway but looking for a change for a takeaway one night.

The " Higher Buck " at Waddington is excellent also, lovely village, and you should be able to get a table ....

The Angel at Hetton, Freemasons at Wiswell, White Swan at Fence, Parker's Arms at Newton and the Higher Buck in Waddington are all in the Estrella Damm " Top 40 Gastropubs " listing for 2022 .... we are very fortunate that all are within 25 miles of Burnley !

7 of us went to Kashmir on Friday evening, no complaints at all - all dishes were tasty. The portion are quite small though.

I particularly enjoyed the meat (mutton) puri starter.

The Calf's Head at Worston just off Clitheroe bypass used to be very good but haven't been for ages.

I love the White Swan. Unpretentious, but just as good any high end restaurant in the northwest. However, like someone said, you'll be lucky to get a table at such short notice.

We used to like the Freemasons, but not been after a couple of visits that didn't come up to the standards we expect for the prices they charge. Maybe we were unlucky? The Staff of Life near Tod serve decent, cooked on the premises, pub grub and their ale is good too.

A place I've never been to, but friends went recently is Sykeside House, at road end Haslingden they reckon it's really good food.

If you’re prepared to go over the border, The Angel at Hetton, nr Skipton is fabulous. Just come back from a two-night stay there and loved every minute!

To be honest, we like Levanter & Baraxturi in Rammy. Both have a very authentic Spanish feel and serves really nice tapas. We take the dog and sit outside but I'm not sure how practical that is in September.

In Rawtenstall, we generally hit Northern Whisper for some craft Ale and sit in the market and have a bit of Thai. The food is a bit average but it's great people watching and the dog can sit with you. There is a new Turkish in Rawtenstall, which is always pretty full but I haven't tried it and a few little deli's most of which are good.

If it was me, I'd probably try the Turkish or the Indian and then potter down bank street trying out the little bars down to the Tiger bars near the Fire station roundabout.

Or the other way around, I can't vouch for the food but by the time you've tried the micro breweries and boho bars you won't give a sh*t anyway.

My ex father in law was a regular visitor there some 35 - 40 years ago....from Rossendale. Seems it's always had a good name !

Northcote is nice but it’s a bit formal… So it’s just whether you like that kind of thing. IMO the white swan at fence is superior food and the front of house is very relaxed and it’s just got a great vibe.

Mondellos in Crawshawbooth.
New owners and chef I believe, with Francesco concentrating on Ballaro's at Gannow Top. Went last night and it was superb

Go to Bertram’s a lot, never disappoints.

Another favourite is the Eagle at Barrow near Whalley.

La Locanda at Gisburn is a fantastic Italian restaurant. None of your usual pizza and lasagne stuff, just proper authentic cooking.

Never been to Bertram's, though this will soon be rectified. The missus got 80 quids worth of Bertram's gift vouchers from her work colleagues for her birthday. I might put something towards it and take the pan lids as well.

La Locanda is indeed good.

You will probably need to book as its only a very small restaurant and like I said, it only serves food Friday to Sunday

Sorry can’t agree about the Sparrowhawk. We went a few months ago and were extremely disappointed. Food seemed to me to be pre-cooked and microwaved. Very poor.

For Sunday lunch try the Lower Buck at Waddington.
They do a Lovely roast dinner.

Crow Wood offers two good dining options - Bertrams (above the spa) and Wilfreds (in the hotel).
I'm a fan of the Firepit, which is next to the station in Rawtenstall. More 'casual' than the likes of Northcote of course, but always enjoyed the food.
