So I assume you also share similar views for corporations owned by the same countries? I assume you don’t use any of them products.
I could write a treatise on this, but I'll spare the forum that; suffice to say we're all corrupted in one way shape or form by political and corporate hegemony: for instance, I can't do my job without a smartphone made from materials sourced by some exploitative form of extraction, or labour practice somewhere along the production chain which I find harmful, unethical, corrupt or immoral. If my phone is built from materials mined in Iran by its state-owned mines, am I an enabler of the theocratic regime which murdered a woman the other day for not wearing a head scarf? This standard of purity to which you implicitly hold people is laughable, and an utterly pi$$-weak defence against the criticism aimed at Qatar.

So, lest I become a hermit I'm a bound into being participant and an enabler of a system of commerce and politics controlled by ruthless, vicious bastards. But in what way should this give cause to the abnegation of my own moral values?

Football has only been about money for quite some time. Especially at the elite level.
Actually it is not.

Maybe you need to change your job then you can rest easier.

From a footballing point of view it’s an area of the world that the tournament hasn’t been held before. Reaches new fan bases etc… to increase revenue in the game.

So they are filthy rich but don't have TV

If we are looking at it financially, it’s got to be linked to getting one of the most financially liquid regions in the world more invested in the game.

To the benefit of who in particular?

Midwinter is realistically the only time the tournament could be held there due to the weather.

And that's a reason not to hold it there, if any is really needed
Sorry, but the ethics of it are so skewed it just shouldn't happen.

Not sure what that has to do with anything.

How many caps had Seaman won when he let Ronaldinho lob him from half way?
What, no jokes ? :D :D

Shame for Pope, still the best England goalie nevertheless.
Anyway, who’s bothered about a (so called) World Cup in Qatar?

Maguire was integral to that incredibly good defensive unit at the Euros, I know he's the national scapegoat atm but he's a good player, he's shown that throughout his career.
Maguire has been good for England in the last couple of tournaments and throughout Southgate's tenure but he's so out of form, not even playing club football at the mo, and clearly shot of confidence that he should be nowhere near the squad now. Tonight proved where he's at right now. Selecting him goes against what made Southgate good for England initially, ie playing players on form etc.

Ethics aside, watching a World Cup in the pub with Xmas decorations up will be a novelty if nothing else.

Unfortunately Pope is finished as a serious contender for England. Maguire will get another life I suspect, but he must be getting very difficult to pick even for Gareth. Whilst we're not spoiled for choice at centre back, there are plenty playing well regularly for their clubs. Probably too late to bed anyone in now though..

Hard to really blame Maguire for anything last night, he looks rusty at times when he plays week in week out. Having hardly played this season nothing that happened last night should surprise anyone.

The blame should lie firmly at the feet of the person who decided he will be perfectly fine trying to get match fit during 2 games against Italy & Germany

I’m not sure how you arrive at Pope being the best England goalkeeper. I appreciate it’s all about opinions of course but Pickford is still way ahead for me. Pope has an awful first touch with his feet and gives you the wobbles every time it’s returned to him.

Gotta feel for Pope but his chance has now gone . I get the feeling he’s been amazing in training hence why GS gave him both games to earn the shirt . For a guy with a poor touch he’s had a fantastic career and will continue to do so , but he’s clearly not as effective as Pickford /Ramsey and possibly Henderson .

Regarding Pope. Obviously he should have held the ball for the German third goal. But Havertz was very quick to seize on the error. Didn't Burnley sometimes have a defender stand facing and in front of the keeper acting as prevention against this kind of thing happening?

A mistake by a goalkeeper or defender and its a goal. Thats the game. Forwards miss sitters and not critical

No other English keeper can touch Pickford his performances wearing the England shirt have been flawless

I still think Pickford is England's weak link (together with Maguire) and an accident waiting to happen. I'm sure I'll hear whether it is true or not afterwards, because I'm not intent on following the WC closely

Pickford IS englands weak link
I think he will be the cause of some of our downfall at the WC if he plays

England 3rd favourites to win the World Cup. The bookies can obviously see what a great manager Southgate is and how this team is coming to the boil at just the right time

It's gone for Pope now, a big shame, but that's sport at its most brutal at the highest level. Pickford has not put a foot wrong for England, and is deservedly #1.

I can't help but feel Pope has never felt comfortable at this level, and has probably not been helped by sensing Southgate / the set up is not fully behind him given his chances have always come either in games where Pickford is unavailable or have been relatively meaningless.

Pope's chance was gone years ago when he wasn't selected because "kicking" and "plays for Burnley". Given a real chance at a run in the team and he would have been fine.

It's crap, but so many players get picked on "checks club badge" and "media darlings" status, so I can't really give a sh!t about England winning or losing at all - in fact never have been overly worried. I'll watch, but won't lose sleep over it

Neither of these 2 mediocre sides will trouble the latter stages of the WC, both far too weak defensively to be serious contenders.

Bellingham was brilliant last night, and dragged England back into that game virtually single-handedly, but England have far too many weak links at this time including the manager, and Germany are undergoing a transition period following their long-term gaffer quitting last year.

Sadly England blew their best chance of a major trophy in the Euro's, and that high press will be incredibly difficult to replicate in the stifling heat of Qatar.

At least England showed they can score goals after such a long drought.

Quick glance this morning brings two things to mind:

There are a lot of people who insist they do not care at all about England, or the upcoming World Cup, but still feel the need to share the views and opinions on both with those that do care.
Devils Advocate is a bore.

While you continually try to take the p**s out of Southgate in your inverted way get used to him leading England into the World Cup
