I’ve been at CCS for every match so far this season, and will be there this Saturday. I’m quite looking forward to it, though from my point of view I’m hoping it finishes in a draw, perhaps an entertaining 3-3!

I have always liked Jimmy Mullen, without him we would not have got to the heights we have been to, its about time he came back to the Turf to get the applause from us all, which in my opinion he thoroughly deserves, i will never forget the night match at Barnet it finished 0-0 but the town was full of Burnley fans it was like a home game, that was a night when " Jimmy Mullens Claret n Blue Army " arrived in Barnet, take a bow Jimmy, post its were plastered everywhere windows, pubs, everywhere had a sticker on it even some Barnet cars were targeted as well, anyone else remember that night ?. ps when i saw this thread i thought he might have gone to that football place in the sky, all the best Jimmy.

Legend just about sums it up. York and Derby were unreal.

My dad was at Barnet that night as was working in London, takeover.

Hopefully those there on Saturday take the chance to let him know the regard he is held.

Jimmy kickstarted the journey back to the top. The Burnley are Back chant was apt and proved to be absolutely right. Agree with the poster above that days like Derby and York were absolutely brilliant. There have been more ups than downs since then. Things went a bit awry later and was battling some demons as well but how he was treated at the end was criminal.

Does he want to come back and go on the pitch for a walk around? I heard that it was a no-no from his side. It would be good if he did, though.

I cannot recall a manager held in such affection as Jimmy, he was our saviour rescuing us from the dark dark days.

It used to naturally turn into just ‘Jimmy’ when sang for a good five minutes.

I liked how it started to, with a lone voice just screaming ‘Jimmy!’ Then reply at the other side of a the stand with ‘Mullen’s’ then the handful of supporters shouting ‘Claret and Blue Arrrrrrrmy!’

Really don't understand this sentimental clap trap about Mullen and I attended all the above mentioned games. If it was Sean Dyche may be, but Jimmy Mullen do me a favour

My favourite manager ever. Made me fall in love with Burnley.
The atmosphere around the place has never been repeated since.

Used to be great when the chant would start with two sets of fans singing alternate lines and then after about 10 minutes would merge together into a single chant. Not sure what it is about that Mullen period but it was a great time to be a Claret. Burnley's version of post war euphoria maybe. You realised how bad things could have been so really embraced the moment and enjoyed it.

My other memory from the Barnet game was the copper on his horse after the match

Went to a Rochdale -Burnley game at Dark Lane ,Rossendale United a few years back, possibly U19s
looked to my left a certain JM was stood 5 feet away a warm handshake but didn't engage in conversation
too much i think he was working ( scouting ) ..

Said it many times since that Jimmy Mullen put the blood back into Burnley FC's veins and Stan started pumping it around.

From all my 40 odd years watching Burnley, the Mullen period had the best crowd engagement and euphoria. If I shout JIMMY tomorrow I hope you all join in!

I took my daughter to her first Burnley game in his era.
She loved singing Jimmy Mullens Claret and Blue Army.
And the fact it went on and on.
I really liked him as a manager, did nothing wrong in my eyes.

I wish he would come back to the turf, I don't think he would believe the affection and welcome we fans would give him if we could.

Like many fans above I started watching Burnley as he came in and I was hooked for a lifetime. Thank you Jimmy!

He did come back in 2007 I think, but to an event in the JH suite - possibly for the 125 years anniversary stuff. The reception he got visibly shocked and moved him, it was fantastic.

7 years of trying to get out of the 4th division were brought to an end in little more than 7 months when Jimmy was appointed Manager. As with many on here, that 91/92 season will live long in the memory and despite all the success we have achieved in the years and decades following, will always be one of my all time favourite seasons.

A massive outpouring of affection and appreciation from the travelling Clarets is my guess if Jimmy is there.

Jimmy Mullen is up there with Dyche at giving me great pleasure following us,I may have mentioned it before but Mullen's Championship winning year was my favourite time as a Claret..it was short and sweet but very enjoyable

The fact it ended a near decade of utter misery is probably one of the reasons it’s so well remembered. While we’d definitely turned a corner after the near disaster of 86/87 it needed the extra spark that Mullen gave us to start moving up the leagues again.

I think the point is Pickles, that Mullen took over a team/club with brilliant support, but a poor team which had languished in the bottom division of the league for a number of seasons and was essentially going nowhere fast. We were regularly losing to tiny teams with no history, no fans and no money. Mullen changed that overnight and suddenly the only way was up. After struggling for so long it was right up there with the Dyche miracle of his first full season. Fantastic stuff, especially for those of us who had suffered so badly during the seasons before.

I thought the football was exciting. You wouldn’t see much better 4th tier football than, say, the home game against Northampton. We were very attack minded and got the ball forward quickly. Not just hoofing it, but long balls played for players to run onto. The style of football and the atmosphere complemented each other perfectly

We played some excellent football under Mullen. Flying wingers, red hot centre forwards and tough tackling/goal scoring midfielders in front of the best centre half at that level and even the one above.

It’s one of the things that annoys me when people talk about the football recently and “it’s not what you expect from Burnley”……fact is we always played decent football up until the last few years (Cotterill period aside).

I met him about 17 years ago when I played against his Bromsgrove Rovers side he was managing. Had a quick chat after the match and thanked him for his time at BFC. His language on the sidelines was colourful to say the least Would be good to give him a proper Turf welcome.

And in quick players like Mike Conroy and SJF we had the ideal men to latch on to those balls.

My favourite period in all my years of watching the Clarets. Very exciting.

Playing balls over the top for fast players is exciting to watch.

We have it now with Nathan Tella, the crowd noise goes up tenfold when he is chasing a ball, compared to passing it around the back.

Watching away at York was one of my favourite games watching us maybe even my favourite. Think some go over the top applauding ex players when they are turning out for other teams against us. This guy deserves some really good applause and chants though. He started the journey back.

Like many others, the first Burnley manager I really knew and I think he did lots to embed the early 90s notion of Burnley as a club far too big for their league position, embarking on a journey to its rightful place.

With hindsight, the football he played was pretty pragmatic- perhaps slightly out of keeping with the traditions of the club previously. But it was exciting and it worked and the fans could engage with it.

That said, I've often thought Mullen adapted from the model that got us out of division 4. The play off winning team of 2 years later played what would now be thought of as a 4-2-3-1 with a genuine number 10 (Heath) and a left winger given the freedom to roam across the front (Eyres), plus attacking full backs and even a centre back given the licence to roam forwards. Looking back that feels reasonably forward thinking for the era and it was mighty effective too. Of course the next step up proved too much for team and manager but for 3 seasons he revitalised the club.

We’ve had debates on here this season about the embarrassment of some f the songs we sing and how they haven’t changed with the times. I’m one of the protagonists of that. Part of the reason for that is the utter contrast of the Jimmy Mullen chant.

I’ve had many experiences supporting the club, including flying from Dubai back to the Turf, just to watch the Scunthorpe game on the big screen in the middle of the pitch. But when asked, before my last breath will be drawn, what is your most memorable moment supporting Burnley it will be THAT chant at Derby. What a moment, when a nation admired what we did as a crowd that night.

I seem to remember going to Scarborough to witness yet another abysmal performance……….but then the Jimmy Mullen journey began!!

The Derby game and the reaction to it throughout and after the game gave me goosebumps.

For that alone I am ever thankful to Jimmy Mullen.

I know nostalgia is a funny thing, but the match report echoes the sentiments of the fans at the time, Burnley were back and anybody who had watched us or been around the club in the preceding years to Mullens appointment knows how important Jimmy Mullen was in the History of the club.

The days of arriving at the Turf not wondering whether we were going to win, but how many we’d win by…

A lot of selective memories on here.

Let's not forget that when Mullen left in a way that was spun by the club, we were heading back to where he brought us up from. The relegation in 94-95 was truly embarrassing. Relatively speaking Mullen had decent money to spend, but chose to buy players like Liam Robinson, Mark Winstanley and John Gayle!

The following season we even had lan Helliwell leading the line and it was obvious we were only heading one way.
