BPF 7 - not a shot to save, better than I expected with the ball playing
Vitinho 8 - helped us retain the ball really well and offered a threat
THB 8 - composed performance, good line breaking passing but needs to work on his cross field stuff
Beyer 7 - maybe lucky to not be sent off though the ref let their guys off second half for the same
Maatsen 8* - most tackles and duels won in the match (not bad for someone who can’t defend) and two chances created
Cork 7 - not as good as previous but still did well
Cullen 8 - superb ball for the goal and created our next best chance for Jay
Tella 8 - loses the ball a fair bit but that threat in behind is constant with him, lovely goal
Brownhill 7 - won so many second balls and linked it ok, maybe needs to offer more attacking threat
Zaroury 6 - better second half but a tough debut against a very impressive tank of a full back
Jay 5 - thought he wasted two decent chances today

JBG 6 - poor effort with the goal wide open
Taylor 7 - fine

Peacock-Farrel 6 - hard to rate him any higher but had very little to do. Distribution solid.
Vitinho 8* - thought he was poor on Wednesday night but much better today and our best player.
THB 6 - some nice rolled passes into Brownhill who was picking up some nice pockets of space. Some very iffy defensive moments though.
Bayer 6 - slightly fortunate to stay on the pitch.
Maatsen 7 - good performance and battled well when it didn't quite go his way.
Tella 7 - plus 1 for the goal which was an excellent run, touch and finish. Otherwise I thought he chose the wrong option often and ignored Vitinho on a couple of occasions when we'll positioned.
Cork 7 - would have been an 8 but for some sloppy moments in the last 10 minutes. Very good otherwise.
Cullen 6 - great ball for the goal and solid otherwise.
Brownhill 6 - worked hard and found some great positions but couldn't make it count. Zaroury found him really well a couple of times but he got his feet in a Tangmere unfortunately.
Zaroury 6 -started really well and some clever passes to Bronwhill in particular. Whilst his final ball wasn't always the most dangerous looking, they all seemed to ask questions. Struggled against their RB one on one however who was very quick and strong.
Jay 6 - should gave done better with both of those chances in the second half. The one from the Vintinho header should have been a goal, not sure why he didn't hit it on his right. Otherwise we need a little more in general play.

Taylor 7 - very assured, didn't look in any trouble at any point.
Gudmundson 6 - worked hard but maybe should have done better with his chance.

All in all a good three points. We dominated for long parts in the first half and despite Coventry's added intensity in the second half they never really threatened. We lacked the clinical edge again, Jay in particular (should have scored) and perhaps Gudmunson being guilty.
We broke the lines in midfield regularly in the first half but unfortunately stalled/lacked penetration in the final third. 3 good points however and we are very well positioned given the huge changes, despite some frustrating moments in this early period of games.

A good away win this, not because we beat a good side but for own own confidence in our ability to see games out. We didn't paly particularly brilliantly but didn't have to and it'd a case of job done more than anything.

Peacock-Farrell - 6 nothing of any note to do.

Vitinho - 7 I thought he was lucky to keep his place as he's become a bit of a utility player having been in 4 positions at least this season. He did very well today though.

Harwood-Bellis - 7 fine

Beyer - 6 good but could very easily have got himself sent off.

Maatsen - 7 worked ok with Zaroury

Cork - 7 everywhere in midfield, possibly tired a bit near the end as he started giving the ball away

Cullen - 7 interesting that he filled in more on the right than the left this time as we looked to get Vitinho up the pitch. Lovely ball over the top for Tella

Brownhill - 6 OK

Tella - 7 wonderful first touch and a superb finish. We need to find him in that situation more often.

Zaroury - 6 did well enough for his first start, likes his banana boots crosses

Rodriguez - 6 should have at least hit the target or squared it when put through by Cullen. Came a bit too deep too often to there was no one in the box when we broke.

Taylor - 7 good half, steadied things

Gudmundsson - 6 put some air on it Johann! Should have made more of the keeper being out of his goal.

Happy with that, keeps us climbing the learning curve whilst still sitting nicely placed at the top.

BPF - 6 - Nothing to do

Vitinho - 7 - decent both ends of pitch
Bayer - 6 - lucky not to get a second yellow
THB - 7 - played well
Maatsen - 6 - worries me defensively - maybe a bit harsh as I thought he was good going forward

Cullen - 7 - best game for a while
Cork -8* - the good form continues
Brownhill - 7 - moved it quicker today

Tella - 7 - good finish and stretched the line well
JayRod - 7 - lead the line well
Zaroury - 6 - decent enough

Taylor - 7 - slotted in well, distribution really good
JBG - 6

Cullen seemed to play further up the pitch and it made a difference. BPF absolutely nothing to do all day. Cork is playing terrific in the middle right now - makes you question how he played so few games last season. A solid away performance

BPF 6 - nothing to do

Vitinho 6 - I don’t get all the 8’s so far..he was ok but a bit powder-puff imo
Beyer 7 - Excellent start to the game but lucky not be red carded in the end and rightly pulled
THB 7 - defended well but distribution was well off it today
Maatsen 6 - did well enough and tried to link well with Zaroury

Cullen 7 - Good pass for the goal. Tidy
Cork 8 - Best player again apart from being caught on the ball a couple of times later on
Brownhill 6 - fairly ineffective and never troubled the opposition

Zaroury 6 - a couple of nice passes in tight areas but the full back had his number from quite early on
Tella 6 - great first touch and finish for the goal but wasn’t much of a threat that apart
Rodriguez 5 - missed a couple of golden chances to put the game to bed in the second half

Taylor 7 - very assured and helped get that clean sheet
JBG 5 - don’t think he offers enough and didn’t affect the game

BPF 7 - did everything as he should have
Vitinho 8 - grew into the game and some nice touches
Maatsen 7 - played safe first half, second much better
Beyer 7 - looks a player and was playing very well but rightly hooked as was a red waiting to happen
Harwood-Bellis 7 - similar to maatsen, much better second half, maybe need Charlie next to him?
Cullen 6 - okay, normally a big fan of his press but seemed a bit off. Great assist so could have been 7
Cork 7 - not his best but still good, like Cullen a bit off and hence we didn’t control it as much as we have
Brownhill 6 - tired hard but didn’t quite happen for him
Zaroury 6 - there’s a real player in there but we need to manage him, up against a really good opponent
Tella 7 - didn’t really do much bar a great touch and finish for the goal, he keeps going, tried to make things happen when it’s not working, what a great attitude
Rodriguez 6 - think he’s key to how we play, when he’s off, we are and hence we were today

Taylor 8 - very assured, THB seemed to grow when he came on
Gudmundsson 6 - okay not as effective as previous games but difficult to come on to.

As quoon said, good to grind out a result and that we can hold onto a lead. Although I do think they’re better than their league position shows. Hopefully we can build a bit of momentum now and really push on. Not only have we had a massive outlay of players, playing style etc…. But we also have a very young team and confidence will effect them more than most, let’s get behind them because if we can get momentum then we will be a force.

Maatsen 6 a talent but is he a LB?
Cullen 7 better games nice assist
Cork 7 tidy busy and covered well
Brownhill 6 huffed b puffed
Zaroury 6 limited but has real potential in champ
Tella 7 class act quick dangerous

BPF - 7 - Did nothing wrong, handled the short passing well. A few stray long balls into touch, but generally all good.
Vitinho - 8 - Excellent both ways and so, so ridiculously comfortable in possession.
THB - 7
Beyer - 7 - Could have gone for a second yellow though? When he tugged a shirt?
Maatsen - 7 - Made the wrong decision a few times but was generally fine.
Cullen - 7
Cork - 7
Brownhill - 6
Zaroury - 5 - Struggled all game against Dabo (who was outstanding, what a tank). Possibly not ready to be starting.
Tella - 7 - Plus one there for the goal.
Rodriguez - 6

Taylor - 7

Nowhere near our best today yet still comfortably the better side against a team who had absolutely no quality on the ball nor any ability to open us up.

Interesting listening to their fans on local radio driving home. They generally felt we were an excellent team and Coventry struggled to get into the game. Also critical of their own fans who booed Maatsen all game . They felt it was immature

Peacock Farrell 6, not a lot to do. His kicking was good
Vitinho 7, had a good game, and he may make this RB his shirt
TBH 8, a rock in defence, reads the game well
Beyer 7, was forming a good partnership.Looked composed Fortunate not to be sent off and I think VK took him off for Taylor at half time to play safe
Maatsen 7, did not get much support from Zarourry who lacked confidence after the first few tackles on him
Cork 8, apart from a couple of lapses he controlled almost everything. Played really well
Cullen 7-great pass for our goal
Brownhill 7 competed well and covered a huge amount of ground, with better shooting boots he would now have a good tally of goals
Tella-was shut out for most of the first half but took his goal really well. Great control
Rodriguez 6. He is our main striker but at times so deep we lack penetration
Zaroury 6, looked promising in the first few minutes but their right back had him in his pocket. Looked a bit static at times, and could have come inside more allowing Maatsen to push the ball inside their full back
Taylor 8, played brilliantly when he came on cutting out a number of threats
JBG-not suited to this style of play-missed a golden opportunity to make it 2-0. Suspect Tella in the same situation would have scored
Barnes 6, brief appearance which only emphasised he has lost that vital yard of pace

Not a great performance but a satisfying win. Battled well against a poor team and held on. Clean sheet, 3 points, and now 2 off the top . That's where we need to be. Still need to be carving out more chances, but a lovely pass and finish for the goal

BPF 7 looked comfortable and organised the defence
Vitinho 7 decent going both ways
Bayer 6
THB 7 won his share of duals v a tough opposition
Maatsen 6
Cullen 7
Cork 7
Zaroury 5 their fullback had him, although imo their RB was the best player
Tella 7 looks shattered after 65, gives it everything
Brownhill 6
Jay Rod 6

Taylor 7

We were quite slow in build up, many chances with 3 v 2s out wide only to take 1 touch to many, or hold onto it too long.
There just looks something missing in that final 3rd, our "golden chances" or Exp goals count must be quite low. I can't remember many opposition GKs having made many saves per game.

From tv

BPF 7 didn’t have anything to do really but his kicking short and long was good
Vitinho 8 much better defensively on the right, good going forward
THB 7 another solid performance
Beyer 6 a little bit reckless but he is a good cub
Maatsen 6 still not convinced about his defensive quality, but played well overall
Cullen 6 came better in second half when further forward
Cork 8 another quality game, but he does slow down after 70 minutes, which affects our ability to control games
Brownhill 6 his control lets him down sometimes
Tella 7 plus one for goal, always looks dangerous near the box
Jayrod 6 playing to deep, needs to get in the box more with Tella
Zaroury 6 started well but faded, he has got talent

Taylor 7another strong performance
JBG 6 should have scored, didn’t get into the game enough

Re: Coventry v Burnley - Player Ratings

Peacock-Farrell 6 - absolutely nothing to do. Tidy enough with the ball at his feet.

Vitinho 7 - good game. Very comfortable and composed with the ball, and used his pace to good effect when defending. Gyokeres got away from too easily in the last few seconds though that might have cost us on another day.

Harwood-Bellis 7 - consistently good against a tough opponent in Gyokeres (so much so he was asked to pull on to Vitinho late in the game).

Beyer 7 - I thought he was doing well in the first half, especially running out with the ball and picking passes. Picked up a yellow trying to cover for the right side of defence after they'd been opened up, and was then probably slightly fortunate not to pick up another for a tug (but it was in their half).

Maatsen 6 - not sure if it's instructed, but he holds on to the ball for too long, taking too many touches. On numerous occasions, a quick ball out to Zaroury was one but he delayed it, which contributed to the poor game Zaroury had.

Cullen 8 - always available and always kept the ball. Some good forward passes as well yesterday (Tella making runs for him helped massively), and a fantastic assisnt.

Cork 7 - looked shattered in the last 10 mins, but another good game overall.

Tella 7 - his runs down the right channel, in the second half in particular, helped us get forwards a bit faster yesterday. Took his goal brilliantly.

Brownhill 6 - work rate brilliant (the interception in the last second on the edge of our box sums him up), but he's just not got the guile or technique in that number 10 role. So many times he was found in the left half space, but couldn't ever open up their backline. Not his fault, it's just not his game.

Zaroury 5 - tough day for him and nothing really came off. Their full back, Dabo, was excellent and didn't give him a kick. As I've said above though, the passes into him were far too delayed and it didn't help him out there one bit.

Rodriguez 6 - plays the false 9 really, really well, but there's absolutely no point to it if we're not getting players ahead of him routinely. Unlucky not to score.

Taylor 7 - good second half performance. Really solid.

That wasn't an easy game against a decent Coventry outfit whose position in the table doesn't really befit them. We had lots of the ball again, but we're really missing that genuine number 10 now. It's all too congested and we're not really creating much at all for the sheer volume of possession we have. We're only talking very slight tweaks to get us opening teams up, but Kompany will have to decide whether sacrificing one of those 3 midfielders who allow us to dominate the game so well is worth it to get us creating more.

The best bit of the day though was how we overcame that hurdle of conceding late from crosses. You could tell it was in their minds, so hopefully that will do them some real good.
