Brownhill 7-covered a lot of ground. A b it more composure and he would have scored
Zarourry-8 electric in the first half. What a joy to see a winger running at and wrong footing defenders. Has come a long way since Coventry
Rodriguez 7 (one for the pen). Looked a bit jaded and may be feeling the demands of 3 games in 8 days

Benson -7 I think if he had started we may well have scored in the first half too
Taylor 7-did well when he came in, and great moment to try 3 CB's as either a starting position, or when defending a lead

The better team won.

Muric - 8 - not lots to do but that's a top class save to win us the points late on and kicked intelligently.

Vitinho - 6 - very influential early on but faded as an attacking force and a little suspect defensively.

Mastsen - 7 - looked to be asked to play a more disciplined role and did it very maturely and effectively.

THB - 8 - Read the game well and managed Pukki and his distribution was generally really good.

Beyer - 7 - very assured first half. Tested more in the second half and there were a couple of slips (one of which would have cost a goal but for a spectacular intervention from JBG) but he came through.

Cork - 8 - ran the game for 70 minutes and managed it for the last 25.

Brownhill- 8 - he's no Cullen in his short passing but he was his usual dynamic self. Left his shooting boots at home mind.

JBG - 6 - some nice moments but not always on the same wavelength as his colleagues. Worked hard, most notably to save a certain goal at 0-0 when he came from nowhere to make the last ditch challenge at the back stick when the defence had collectively gone AWOL.

Zaroury - 7 - absolutely sensational for 35 minutes until they shifted a man over to help deal with him, and thereafter perhaps at times a little guilty of over playing. The precocious confidence to go with the mercurial ability is great to see though and his workmate was excellent.

Jay - 7 - slotted into the 10 role seamlessly and thrashed the penalty home confidently.

Tella - 7 - ran the channels well and pressed hard even if the chances didn't quite fall his way.

Benson- 7 - added a little more dynamism down our right.

Roberts - 7 - steadied the ship at right back and allowed Maatsen more freedom opposite.

Dervisoglu- 7 - grew into the game and showed gorgeous feet to create the chance for Benson which should have made it 2-0.

Other subs - steadied the ship.


Norwich are a very solid side but on this evidence we're better than them. The first half just lacked a goal and whilst the second half was more even, we shaded it. Another box ticked.

Muric 9 his best game for us so far - 99% faultless distribution, a match winning save and some good claims to take the pressure off late on. He needed that and will be feeling pretty good tonight. Should give him some real confidence.

Vitinho 6 he's a bit of an oddity; does some wild stuff but a lot of the time he seems in two minds about what to do and gets caught or plays it safe. Solid but you feel he could do more.

Harwood-Bellis 8 safe and sound, with his passing back on form too

Beyer 7 slotted back in like he hadn't been away and despite a couple of slips, we just feel better with a natural centre half there

Maatsen 6 didn't win much in the air against Screech but he defended with discipline and kept it tight when we had the lead

Cork 9 totally in charge, his booking was really unlucky, looked a dive. At least he gets a rest now.

Brownhill 7 different role than he's become used to but his energy was key to our first half domination.

Gudmundsson 6 slowed things down a bit compared to the other wing and he's the latest to take an absolutely wack free kick, but he's a good head to have on the pitch and we're getting some decent minutes out of him now

Zaroury 8 made Aarons look like trash so they doubled up on him and restricted his space.

Rodriguez 7 looked great in his slightly withdrawn position and doesn't half take a good pen

Tella 7 didn't quite come off for him tonight but along with everyone else, he had a superb 1st half. Lovely to see him seek out the steward he clattered into, at the end.

Benson 6 nothing like Saturday which has been par for the course with him so far. Gave the ball away cheaply and didn't seem quite switched on defensively. Should really have bagged from Dervisoglu's cut back.

The first half tonight was ridiculously good, against a poor Norwich side, without us quite creating anything clear cut. A top manager once said you've got to find a way to win and that's what we did tonight.

Muric 8 (excellent IMO, think the back 4 are beginning to gel very well with him and just seems an air of confidence around this defensive group now)

Muric 8 - a good late save and claimed a few crosses.

Vitinho 5 - put us in trouble by giving the ball away too many times in dangerous areas.
THB 7 - solid enough and decent distribution.
Beyer 7 - some excellent runs from the back and assured enough bar one slip for Cantwell’s chance.
Maatsen 6 - played well but was targeted aerially down his side and struggled with it.

Cork 8 - excellent midfield play. We’ll miss him on Saturday.
Brownhill 7 - pressed well and helped move the ball. Made some intelligent runs.

Zaroury 8 - fantastic first 30 minutes. Faded a bit after that but great to watch.
JBG 6 - neat and tidy but his lack of pace meant the full back had an easier time on his side.
Tella 6 - great shift and energy but not his night tonight. Got a few kickings.
Rodriguez 6 - neat enough and kept his cool for the pen.

Benson 7 - another good impact.

Muric 8 - as I’ve said on another thread, I thought he was superb tonight. Massive save and distribution outstanding.
Vitinho 6 - weird performance. Wasteful in possession but worked hard and made some outstanding recovery tackles. Wore out towards the end and the Roberts sub shored us up.

I just love watching this team. Added a bit of steel tonight too. They were a cynical outfit who looked to bully us but we outplayed them and kept a dangerous operator in Pukki out. Big win and bodes well that we’re finding different ways to win.

It was the rest which was not so good. Positioning/flapping.

Worry not Ian, Muric’s high marks are strongly linked to relief that Norwich didn’t nick a result at the end. The reality is that he didn’t have much to do throughout the game but I get the support being shown to him because of the amount of stick he’s had throughout the season

Having watched back THB should have been a 7 not a 6 Sorry Taylor.

More fast slick exciting football....loved it, as did er indoors..she'd given up on Dyche's Alamo routine a couple of seasons back.

Muric's a keeper on a big upwards curve.
Beyer and THB are a good watch...easy to see why retaining Ben for this season was no biggie.
Don't know where they found Zaroure but I'd nip back and see if he has any brothers.
JBG struggling with this faster stuff and tends to slow us down.
It was clear they'd launch everything for the last 15 minutes..and it could easily have finished as a draw..simply smashing the ball back up to the lone striker doesn't look a great option.

Anyway...a good evening's work.. Norwich are said to be a good side at this level.... We made them look like a Cheshire League outfit for much of the game.

For all the influx of new arrivals this summer, the best bit of business the club did was getting Cork to sign a new contract; excellent yet again.

Another big test passed tonight

Norwich came to play first half, and barely got out of their half such was our dominance, and they (sensibly!) decided to make the 2nd half more of a scrap that was working till we got the deserved break through.

Muric 8 - great safe at the end and some good distribution
Vitinhio 6 - good first half, struggled a lot 2nd and rightly hooked
THB 8 - very solid
Beyer 8 - very solid (one slip could have been costly though)
Maatsen 7 - we must have the fastest left hand side in the country, did well
JBG 7 - doing well considering he's just not played for what seems like forever, three games in a week will do him the power of good
Brownhill 7 - would expect him to do better with the shooting chances he had tonight but worked hard
Cork 8* - really good again, will be a miss for Saturday
Tella 6 - never really got going
Zaurory 8 - looked unplayable for 30 minutes, but Norwich then put an extra man on him. Didn't manage to keep him quiet though
Jay 7 - great penalty and worked hard
