Wout WEeghorst

Seeing multiple rumours on social media that Weghorst could come back in January

In this system, i think he could be what we need, Height in the box (Rember, the guy is 6ft 4)
As for personality, I've heard rumours that he was a big voice in the dressing room

I know Wout is not popular on here, but given our new setup and style of play I would have bim back gladly: he is a good footballer with a good football brain. For me, it's a little bit like the Westwood situation: I was critical of him for the last two seasons, but I would be happy to see how he performs in VK's system.

My thoughts on him said enough - BUT - would he suit this style of play? Absolutely.

If he was up for it, and there isn’t bad blood between him and the squad, then it might be worth a go…

I expect us to sign a striker in January but if we don’t then I wouldn’t be against him returning to help out Jay. He would be a million miles more effective in our system than Barnes.

Mental

He would thrive in this system and more importantly, gives us two strikers rather than the one we have at the moment (I'm not counting Barnes, and the Turkish lad just hasn't played enough)

His only crime was being honest about why he was leaving, and if you think that all the others who left didn't say similar privately then I've got a bridge to sell you

There was a quote from the Besiktas sporting director yesterday on the transfer fee that doesn't read like he'd be coming back soon.

This is the important quote in that article:

The 30-year-old has scored six goals in 13 games for Besiktas since joining on loan in the summer. The Dutchman had an agreement in his Clarets contract that he could leave on loan should Burnley drop into the Championship, with Weghorst citing securing a place in the World Cup squad as the reason for the clause.

I'd love Wout Weghorst to return in January and strengthen the squad to win promotion.

The Wout man can't jump.

In seriousness, it's fair for him to want to play at the best level possible to get into the Dutch team (particularly if Van Gaal told him he needed to). This summer he decided the championship was not that level, so I wonder what would have changed for him to have such a turn in opinion and want to come back here and do a job.

If he wants to come back then so be it (we'd be forced to take him back in the summer anyway) but I'm not sure he could cope with having to earn his way into the starting lineup.

There are three big factors:

1. Does he want to return?
2. Does Kompany want him after what we have heard about Vinny not wanting people who think they are superstars?
3. Did the players fall out with him (Roberts etc)?

If the answer to all those is favourable, fine.

If VK wanted him in January I'm sure there'd be a good chance of him coming back, especially if it looked like we have a very chance of being promoted.

The World Cup will be over by January so I would guess that clause in his contract no longer applies.

However from what I have seen I don't think he suits VK's style at all. The player who has gone that might have done was Vydra. He had mobility, a bit of inventiveness and worked hard - none of the things WW has.

Aerial power is something we are missing but only in defence and to an extent in midfield. I don't think we need it up front. Of all the goals we have scored, how many have been centre forward type headers? You might argue that's what we need but we are the leading goalscorers in the division.

I was angry at the time at what I saw as gross disloyalty, but if it was in his contract, then he's not wholly to blame. I'd have him back if VK wants him.

By January the requirement for him to be playing in a first/premier division to secure World Cup selection will have passed. if he returned to Burnley (a side now playing in a manner better suited to his skill-set) in January, there's a good chance they will be back in the EPL with him already established as a member of the team. Whereas if stays in Turkey until the summer while we bought O'Hare or similar in January, we would perhaps not get the opportunity to come back and join our by then Premier League team.
As for the alleged spat with Roberts, I've always thought that was likely to have been no more than a 'heat of the moment' sound bite; if not, well, I reckon I'd rather have WW than Connor Roberts available to us.

Does it? It reads to me like: "We have an option to buy for E10 million and will do so but only if we can get him for an awful lot less". Assuming VK wants him and feels he can do a job from January (was that perhaps always an option/consideration/idea?) I think foregoing Besiktas' E10 million is a better idea than paying £10+ million for O'Hare or similar; doubly so when that article suggests that come the summer Besiktas' counter-offer, will be well short of that E10 million.

Wout Weghorst v Connor Roberts: One of them had just scored the winning goal for his country. The other was on the losing side for his team. I'd expect Roberts to be feeling down after the defeat. That's all we need to explain the "why didn't you do that for Burnley?" comment.

Not arsed about how he left as it was agreed in his contract so fair play to him. Thing is I'm not convinced he does fit this team, nor that he'd score loads in this division. He's a good player but I don't see who he starts ahead of right now. He'd be a useful option off the bench but we know he wouldn't like that and I doubt his wages would be worth it.

Muleka is a bit part player of late and been forced out wide for the majority of games. Besiktas fans hate their manager (Ismael, ex Barnsley and WBA), he's basically the French Dyche/Allardyce/Pulis clone.

As things stand, he'd be competing with Jay, so in this very long busy season, he would most likely be a starter in 50% of the games and be a used sub in the others (basically rotating), but there's no guarantee that Jay will stay fit all season so he would then be an automatic starter (you would think).

This! I really dont know what he did wrong. Looked well up for it when he played and I also feel he would be fantastic in this system. Had a good footballing brain on him, sort of like a Dutch Peter Crouch. Yes he was a tad blunt as many dutch people are,(not a criticism), but I would much prefer that , than somebody who just says the right things all the time. I had us down as champions at the beginning of the season and baring dressing room upset think that this will only improve the chances massively. UTC

I get the antipathy towards Wout, but he wanted to play at the world Cup, and if we signed him on the understanding that relegation would mean he had to leave to further that ambition, then we shouldn't slag him for it. The club obviously accepted it, hence he's playing in Turkey, if we hadn't he'd still be here.

The bigger question is could he do a job for us, if we did get him back. Juries out for me. I loved the first look of him, he hit the ground running, but then he just petered out. He isn't as fast as Tella, he isn't as good in the air as Jay, I think there's a better player in there, if VK can get it out of him then fine, but if anyone offered us some money for him, I'd take the cash and look elsewhere.

I'd be in favour of him returning, think he's a good footballer and would add to the team. However if he doesn't return in January, I'd be tempted to try and sell him in that same window and try and reinvest the potential incoming money.

When does his contract with Burnley expire? One issue with bringing him.back.in January would likely be his wages - until.we get promoted that is!!! How much per week was he earning? Interestingly I was told this week that our top earner now is on 40k / week and rsrely plays.

Wout shouldn't really have any personal issues with this squad as its changed massively since he departed.
