I had that 101 Great Goals on VHS as a kid and played that goal over and over again. One of the greatest I've ever seen. RIP

Re: Ronnie Radford RIP
Great player, great goal. RIP. Ronnie.
Re: Ronnie Radford RIP
It's an astonishing goal isn't it, having not seen it for a few years, but just look at the state of that pitch. And the crowd, standing behind a rope and running on the pitch. And the kids hanging off the lighting pylon to get a decent view.
You know, things probably are better these days!
RIP Ronnie.

It's worth watching the highlights of that match. 15 minutes fly by. What a game. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=D1i7XUmCGcg

Re: Ronnie Radford RIP
Considering it was "only" the equaliser and Ricky George's goal actually won the tie Ronnie Radford perhaps had greater recognition than his 15 seconds of fame merited. BUT it was some goal and will be shown when the FA Cup games are played for years to come.
The BBC Sports web pages today carry a story about the whole thing, a good read.

Re: Ronnie Radford RIP
Sad news, there was an interview played yesterday with Jon Motson who was the match commentator for that great goal . Seemingly Jon Motson regularly attended annual events with Ronnie and they became friends ever since that match. What a fantastic strike in the mud. RIP.
Re: Ronnie Radford RIP
Colchester beat DL in the FA Cup in 1971 and I think everybody around then sort of link the two games together.
It's a reminder how little football was on TV that these matches stand out. When people talk about great games, great players from yesteryear we had little to choose from excluding games we attended.

Ray Crawford, a Colchester legend scored twice and 'The U's' were 3 up before a Leeds fightback threatened to spoil the day

Incredible goal, made more so with the state of the pitch. Hit it so hard that I think the ball was still rising when it hit the net. RIP Ronnie Radford.

As someone once said, you couldn't get a more 1970s image than that if the goal had been scored by Noddy Holder on a space hopper!
RIP Ronnie!

Just watched this clip.
Christ... with the speed and weight of that ball, I'm surprised the net stopped it!

Remember it, watched with my old man…. As for the man himself he could and should have lived of that moment just like Ian Britton/Neil Greenock should/did…….
I once scored (once!) a goal in 5aside and someone shouted “Rocket Ronnie”!!!! And we knew what he meant….

VAR would have disallowed it and history would not be made
Re: Ronnie Radford RIP
RIP Ronnie Radford - whenever I think of the FA Cup, which is rare nowadays because it isn't what it was "back in the day", his goal is the one that I think of - alongside that of Ricky Villa

One of those FA Cup moments that will always be replayed, and this was in an era when sides took the cup seriously.
