 When teams dont sit back against us
We are proned to getting easily pushed onto the back foot.
Luton
Blackpool
And same again today.
Are we too small at the Back?

Yes, I think we all know a dominant centre half would make a difference. Today was a prime example, a Tarky/Mee type would not have allowed McBurney to dominate in the box. It perhaps needed a result like today to make that position a priority in January.

Wonder what Rovers tactics will be next week with Gallagher and Diaz both as tall if not taller than Mcburnie

His distribution his his apparent strong point, well today that was bobbins, his actual goal keeping terrible.

I've never see such a big goalkeepers weakness be jumping and catching the ball.
His commandment of his 6 yard box is appalling, never ming the whole of his box.

We lost the 1st and 2nd contact numerous times today in our own box and that's concerning.

It wouldn't have mattered if it was Southend United or Sheffield United slinging balls into the box today, we just never dealt with them.

Sadly it's been the story of our season so far, we really struggle with crosses into the box.
A goalkeeper that's glued to his line, 2 CB that don't have "the danger nose" imo and get caught ball watching or easily brushed off, and 2 very short fullbacks who don't seem to be as interested in defending as they are attacking

A really bad day at the office today.

Hopefully we see a big reaction next Sunday.
Blackburn have been given the blue print today for how to get sucess against us

It's been obvious how to play us all season. Sheffield United were very good at it today but look at the number of points dropped from winning positions from crosses or set pieces. PNE, Cardiff, Stoke, WBA, Birmingham off the top of my head. We would be well clear but for our inability to defend balls into the box.

Rovers not so great on headers though, seem to prefer shots, and often from from outside the box.

Was expecting more from Grant Hanley when we played Norwich.

Almost as if we dealt with him, and indeed their other big lads on set pieces, well. You can praise us, you know - it is allowed.

I think teams have worked out how to play us and it isn't rocket science, if we don't address this issue we could be in for a few more defeats but hopefully not next week.

We’ve lost 2 games out of 20 against teams who apparently ‘have worked out how to play us’.

And I'm sure we've been scouted every week since Huddersfield.
I think the panic and over reaction is because yesterday was such a shock. I knew we weren't unbeatable but I just didn't envisage someone being able to take us apart like that.
I was screaming at the TV at the defending like most others but nobody can argue that our lads have earned some patience.

The reaction by some to yesterdays defeat has been ridiculous.

Maybe Steve but I think it’s the manner of the defeat that’s caused the reaction.

It seems to have gone unnoticed, but Sheff Utd were not much better at defending set plays. THB should have scored two himself, and there were numerous other opportunities too.

Interesting to hear VK talk about hitting the wall physically yesterday in the second half after a brutal run of games.

No doubt we did get overrun/overpowered second half yesterday and with Jay and Josh both absent this seemed to tip the scales too far against us.

However, most posts I read from various supporters on here yesterday rightly criticised our defending and our keepers nightmare performance under the high ball. I’m also fairly certain that every Burnley fan is absolutely delighted with the way we now play and the fact we are top of the league, and so will no doubt continue to support the team throughout understanding that we will lose games along the way.

Having said that, is it not okay for some fans to be critical of certain performances/players when we get dicked 5-2? Surely it’s all about opinions and whilst you don’t have to agree with them, it seems bizarre to me when people start calling others ‘babies’ or ‘clueless Premier league cling on fans’ on a chat forum! 🤣

Don't forget most teams don't have a long throw expert ( thankfully) .

Yup. And if we could defend a simple high ball into the box then we would be almost out of sight at the top rather than 2 points clear with our closest rivals, geographical and league position up next. Love our forward play and slick passing, however there are serious concerns over the back 4 and keeper.

I've been expecting a result like this for a while and when I saw the team yesterday I half expected them to beat us. Perhaps not 5-2 however. It was as though the team just switched off basic marking and tracking back. Surely VK knew some players were tiring at the end of the 1st half so why not change the full backs at HT? We're top of the league so cannot criticise VK too much but some of his decisions are a bit strange IMHO. Especially when you consider he was such a dominant CB :?

Right from the off yesterday we looked vulnerable at set pieces it was like watching men v boys. Kompany should have seen what the majority saw an made the necessary changes at HT. I would have pulled Maatsen, Vitinho and Tella for Barnes, Roberts and Taylor as we obviously lacked strength and height to defend the set pieces

You forgot points dropped against WBA, Stoke, Cardiff and Preston all due to a lack of height in defence.

Or better still tailor our line-up to the circumstances and opposition by starting with Roberts and Taylor, which is what many people said before the game.

I assume with the formation he chose, Vinny was hoping we could go there and impose our game on them, but Sheffield have a better side that most other Championship teams and VK was a bit naïve playing wingbacks instead of Taylor and Roberts who would have both been more useful on set pieces and defending in general.

The problem seemed to be that the majority of us could see it wasn't working by half time and a change was needed and it didn't happen until the fat lady was singing. I am 100% certain VK learns from this and we grow as a whole unit.

Yes but they are a big physical side similar to Sheff Utd.
