Every time they took a long throw - a towel was provided for them to wipe the ball - is this allowed now?

Been that way for years I think - certainly Delap and others always used them.

I wonder how much time drying the ball with the towel wastes? It appears time wasn't a problem when the towel was being used.

As long as the towels are made of cotton its perfectly fine but both linen and terrycloth towels are illegal to use in most sports including football

I think towels are permitted, but have to be made available to both sides. If we had asked to use one, I don’t think they could have stopped us.

It doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things today, but I don’t think it should be allowed

There's a video on twitter of a Rotherham fan taking his jumper off and giving it to one of their players to dry the ball with.

It’s always happened. The weirdest bit was him spitting on his hand after drying it before he threw.

I thought he spat on the ball. I wondered about the health issues of doing that. Low risk I agree but nevertheless an added and unnecessary one.

Yes, but what it if it was some kind of magic towel. Perhaps something like an invisibility cloak or...or magically gave the ball extra momentum or...something else...

In the second half, couple of goals down I think we were, we got a throw deep in their half and ended up taking it backwards and eventually to Muric (starting again from the back). Summarised the two different styles completely.

About 5 seconds. Give over

The long throw is such a tedious aspect of the modern game. Nearly every team we’ve played this season appears to have a “specialist”. I know we were trying to utilise Roberts’ thrown ins last season.

Not sure what the associated stats are, but in most games I see it’s pretty ineffective.

I thought this thread was going to be about us throwing the towel in after Sheffield 4th goal

If we had asked for a towel, would we have thrown it in?

Not our style.
