Your team v Rovers
After today's capitulation defensively I think we need to be more streetwise. We don't need massive change, but we do need to address our lack of height and quite frankly play more defenders.
Assuming it's still 4231, I'd go:-
Muric
Lowton THB Mayer Taylor
Cullen Cork
Benson Brownhill Tella
Jay
Subs
PF, Maatsen, Long, Dervi, Zaroury, Roberts, Vito

Muric and Beyer in particular can count themselves very fortunate if they start the Rovers game, but I'd probably stick with them simply because I'm not sure if we've got adequate replacements (yet). I beg of VK, Vitinho and Maatsen must drop out of the side. Brownhill and Rodriguez straight back in. Benson on the bench to hopefully affect the game second half. Pray they don't have any decent long-throwers or set-piece takers.

Tella pretty lucky to be keeping a starting place imo - he’s looked off it for a few games now. Harsh to drop Benson, who did nothing wrong today and caused them all sorts of problems in that first half.

I thought it was a bit harsh on JBG too. The old saying "if it ain't broke..." springs to mind.

Re: Your team v Rovers
I would change at least one of the full backs as they are both lightweight and lack height.
Taylor is the obvious choice at LB. The RB place is the problem with Roberts of to the WC whose commitment I would question and Lowton lacks match fitness

Diaz plays from the left for them so he will be attacking the back post, it won't happen but Lowton should start or move Beyer to right-back.

I think Lowton's experience and height is exactly what we need next Sunday.

Good point above about Brereton's positioning and its worth adapting for. Roberts adds more physically thwn Vitinho but hes been suspect at the back post more than once this season and its an ask for him to be mentally where he needs to be for the intensity of the derby immediately before the fulfilment of a world cup dream.
This team gives us an extra jumper in Taylor, which may be important, and Benson deserves to keep the right sided berth. Tella can be the impact sub.

Re: Your team v Rovers
I'm not sure about Roberts for one reason only, the day after he goes to the World Cup - is he going to be flying into tackles 24hrs before that ? Human instinct would say not and we (and him or any other player) can't afford that next week.

Re: Your team v Rovers
Just don’t think that they have much intention of using Taylor at left back and so doubt he’s been training there in our system.
Can’t imagine they’ll change keepers for this game.
Beyer to rightback might be a good call though.
I think Tella needs a rest as well.

Re: Your team v Rovers
Should Benson start or come on later in the game? I pose this because despite his wonderful form recently he doesn't appear to have 90 minutes in him. Earlier in the season was the same. He had a good first half yesterday but then 'disappeared' like the rest of the team after the interval.
Personally wouldn't be making significant changes next week but possibly bring in Taylor at left back. However, Maatsen has combined quite well with Zaroury recently and I'd like to see that continue to flourish. Jay and Brownhill to return so more emphasis on a good weeks training and ultimately continue to trust the manager and his staff.

Re: Your team v Rovers
I would expect us to impose our game on them and keep possession and patience. Where I would look to make a change would be on the bench. Lowton has to be there in place of Roberts. With the World Cup on his mind I don’t want him near the team for next week.
Lowton has played in this fixture, and was only 2 seasons ago scoring worldies in the Premier League. He can tackle and is decent in the air, so I’d rather he replace Roberts.
Another change would be the keeper, bringing in BPF. Muric needs time out and to focus on crosses. Gallagher and BBD are both tall and decent in the air, and we need someone who will at least catch the ball in the six yard box.
If we are being exposed then we bring on Taylor and Lowton.

Re: Your team v Rovers
For me:-
Steady the ship at the back and give Muric some more cover. Win the midfield battles. Speed on the wings and our best finisher.
Muric
Lowton,HB, Beyer, Taylor
Brownhill, Cork, Cullen
Benson,JRod,Zaroury.
Playing a 433 for 60-70 mins,
Then unleash Hell on the Fookers!!!
JBG, Tella and Maatsen on in a triple substitution to run them ragged.
5-0 to the Clarets!!

Any chance of Egan-Riley at RB if we have doubts about Roberts and Lowton?

No need for loads of changes after a bad 45 minutes away against a decent side. Keep the ball and attack, there is a reason they have lost as many games as they have and it won't be because they are amazing at the back.

Re: Your team v Rovers
Suggestions of Lowton in the side remind me how when McCann wasn't in the squad he turned into Iniesta.
He doesn't fit the way this Burnley side plays. And the way this Burnley side plays has been a successful way of playing.
We do need to be more solid off the ball, that's plain to see. And especially more organised and committed when defending balls into the box.
But I'm not sure picking Lowton in the advanced right back slot - a role so pivotal to how we play when we have the ball, and requiring skills I'm not convinced he has - is the answer.
