Strange game, we didn’t really need to up the gears as they offered hardly any threat.
Wins a win and good minutes for a few, no need to over scrutinise it as they just sat behind the ball and we did what we needed to.

Completely dominant just missing a clinical edge in the box for most of it but we got there in the end.

Egan Riley really isn't as good as he thinks he is.

Pretty harsh, he’s 19 and naturally a defender, felt tonight did a fine job in midfield.

Pretty careless with his passing and caught on the ball a couple of times. He'll improve with time on the pitch no doubt.

What a strange comment.

Has he been going around telling folk that he's brilliant or something? :?

Egan-Riley must have touched the ball more than any other player on the pitch tonight. His role was to dictate the game. He wasn’t going to play a perfect game as he’s probably quite rusty, not really a midfielder and still only 19 years old. He did well and deserves some credit for constantly showing for the ball and trying to open the opposition up.

Bit of a character assassination about one of our young players with absolutely no basis or foundation.

If what you actually meant was that he displayed some confidence, continuously showed for the ball but then made a couple of mistakes then that would make a lot more sense. It would also be no real surprise given he has been brought up at City and surely a very positive attribute to possess in a young player.

Alternatively he could have been very nervous playing in an unfamiliar position, not shown for the ball / hid from being involved. Contributed little because he was scared of making a mistake and hooked at half time as a result of not even trying to do what his manager had asked him to do.

Which one of these were you thinking he should have done when making your comment ?

I like the look of McNally he's good in the air and looked very calm on the ball, he also reminded me of a young Michael Keane

Job Done basically

We were about as dominant as its possible to be, only let down by finishing, desperate defending and not enough players taking risks to get on the end of what seemed like endless balls across the box for tap ins

McNally solid, Egan Riley good (but too casual on the ball at times), Barnes looking a lot more like Barnes

Good nights work all round

Lowton 6
McNally 7
Taylor 7
Roberts 7
Benson 7

Egan-Riley 5

I think any 11 would have been enough to see through against a very poor Crawley outfit.
We did the job, a little surprised with some of the players playing 85-90 mins as I thought they should be starting Sunday but in Vinny I trust.

McNally looked the better of the younger lads getting minutes/experience, a couple looked quite poor up against what are 1 of the poorest sides in league 1.

But we are in the hat so it's job done.

Peacock-Farrell 6-Hard to judge as he didn't have a great deal to do.
Lowton 7-Glad to see him back, pity he didn't feature against Sheff Utd.
McNally 7-Sound game, I think he might have a bright future.
Taylor 7-I can't for the life of me understand why he hasn't featured much recently. A must start at LB for me.
Roberts 7-Thought he did well in the Brownhill role.
Benson 9*-Another excellent game.
Egan-Riley 7-Showed great promise.
Bastien 5-Failed another audition for me.
Gudmundsson 6-Played more central and had plenty of involvement without being very creative in the final third.
Costelloe 5-Missed another chance to impress imo.
Barnes 7-Played well considering he didn't have much support around him.

Zaroury 8-Excellent when he came on.
Brownhill 7-Another who did very well for the period he was on.

BPF 7
Lowton 7
McNally 8
Taylor 7
Roberts 6
Egan Riley 7 (did well and others have mentioned, it wasn't his preferred position as I understand it and he kept showing for the ball. Just seemed to want a bit too much time on occasions so I can't see him cutting it in the Championship right now and looks like one for the future atm)
Bastien 6
Costello 5
Benson 8*
JBG 6
Barnes 6 (well taken goal, but missed more than one he should have buried)

Zaroury 8
Brownhill 7

Entertaining stuff as ever atm and like watching a training game of attack v defence. We created and missed so many chances and Benson was at times absolutely unplayable, but we also fell for the softest of sucker punches yet again. A well deserved win and a useful run out for some fringe players and we move on.

disappointed if you were hooked against a below

He started very nervously but settled down very nicely

Course, he'll have a lot tougher tests!

Not seen him play, but a very dear friend of mine is a life long Oxford fan and says he was one of his favorite players and a real talent. Needs careful development for a very promising career

Taylor and Lowton 7
Costelloe 5
All others 6

Benson made some great chances first half but we needed some clinical finishing. Barnes possibly should be a 7 but he won’t be that good against better opposition. Thought Crawley hung in there well first half.

Nice evening out watching us have 85% possession, and 783 passes. I'm amazed on how quickly the players have adapted to this new style tbh.

Also what a steal Benson and Zaroury are looking :)
