Remembering ELI

For some reason got to thinking about dear old Eli on this board and his repeated desire/prediction for Burnley to sign a pair of quick, tricky, wee Scottish wingers.
He was almost right, they’ve just turned out to be Belgian!!

I’m sure he’d have loved watching this team.

I’m sure he would…. We are certainly exciting to watch now. Benson and Zaroury are very exciting.

It was 16 years ago a week last Sunday since Eli passed away. He’s still missed.

A lovely man. Dry as a bone and had forgotten more than most people know.

I never knew him personally but he was a great member of the board back in the days of Clarets Mad and i still remember the great homage given to him at the time.

I'm shocked to find it's 16 years ago. Very sadly missed wit off the messageboards, he'd have a field day with some of today's posters

I think with today's posters his prick list would be somewhat bigger than it was..

That has absolutely staggered me! I have had a few monickers over the years but rarely post. Just a browser really, but always loved Eli's wit. I never met him , well not that I knew (I have a feeling I would know if I had :) ). Where does time go!

Here is the man himself. Some may also recognise the bowler turning his arm over....

Could the bowler be Lancashires Statham.

More recent than that and not long issued the edict "start the car" for the last time in a broad Accy accent when he hung up the mike....

It was also 6 years ago(25th October)since Lotty/Cumbrian Claret passed away.I am still in contact with his wife Margaret. He would have been so proud of this team.He loved his music but for some reason always played Zoom by Fat Larrys band when he was announcer. He always repeated the Blackburn score twice when they got beat.Eli was before my time on Clarets Mad but I knew people who spoke highly of him.

I bet there was some banter there between Bumble & Eli - neither of them ever lost for a word.

We occasionally get a visit from his son on the board and I'm told 'Er Indoors is doing well.

Can't believe it is 16 years. Just shows how memorable his contribution was when he is still fondly remembered

Zoom by Fat Larrys Band and Heartbreaker by Dionne Warwick are 2 i remember being belted out every game. 1982 3rd Div Championship season, nearly every game watched from the Bee Hole End apart from the Chesterfield game where i had my foot in a plaster cast with a broken foot, so i was in the CF stand.
