January Window
What do we think VK will be looking for in January? Will we go back in for Obafemi? Will any players leave, (Barnes, Lowts, Long)?
I'm hoping for a proper goal scorer mainly, think it will make a big difference for us, with the amount of chances we are creating we should be destroying teams.
With Westy, Churlinov and Twine to return, we should be fine everywhere else.
(I thought CJ did really well in the anchor role last night, that could be his position moving forward)

Re: January Window
I think just another striker as back up for Jay at the moment as we are pretty much covered everywhere else, unfortunately a striker for a side in the top few in the championship will probably cost you £10m+ in January
Re: January Window
Definitely need a striker to stretch teams and who is direct. Obafemi or Gyokeres would be ideal, but I think Gyokeres is out of our price range.
Maybe we go in for O'Hare again?
Hopefully when we return we should have Westy, churlinov and Twine back.
Maybe a big physical CB?
In terms of outgoings, I'd think Lowton and Barnes could be leaving, but I think due to their contracts, they would probably sit it out to the end of the season.
Also think Costelloe should go out on loan.

If Twine is back after the WC and making an impact, this may alter things.
Re: January Window
Certainly not covered in central defence, an area we really need to strengthen.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 11:52 amI think just another striker as back up for Jay at the moment as we are pretty much covered everywhere else, unfortunately a striker for a side in the top few in the championship will probably cost you £10m+ in January

Extra central striker & centre back would be great.

Striker if Dervisoglu isn’t trusted. Otherwise the squad is looking just fine once the injured lads return.

Re: January Window
A centre half for the first team and come in straight away
Left back, young, someone that can be eased in slowly with the plans more for next year when Maatsen goes back
Striker, out and out finisher who can break the lines and lives in and around the 6 yard box
Central Midfielder, young, someone box to box who can grow into the side, learn from Cork
As much pre planning for when the OOC players leave in the summer, plus the others Kompany doesn't want to keep.

I think Dodgson is the future left back?
Re: January Window
As far as i am aware, it is only Nathan Tella who can be recalled. This is due to us not paying a loan fee. All the rest had loan fees so we could take over their contracts for the season. Well that's what i have been told so do not know how true it is.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 12:19 pmAre our loan players on season long deals or can they be recalled?

Re: January Window
I’d be shocked if Weghorst came back for the same reasons as I’d be shocked if Southampton recalled Tella (its very rare to do so). Plus his flag kissing antics suggests he’s happy there & I’m not sure I’d want him to disrupt the spirit/togetherness we seem to be building.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 12:37 pmKeane on loan from Everton

Would love the Coventry striker. Very good at this level.
Re: January Window
I'd like us to potentially sign one of our loan players on a permanent. Two if possible. I'd consider that alone to be a good window.
Re: January Window
A big imposing centre back is looking like a must. For those physical games we need him, and then Charlie to go to left back, not cover at CB.
A big yet mobile centre forward (In the Toney mould)
Midfield is fine assuming Westy is looking good. Darko looks a good player too and twine to come in still.
Can maybe see some outgoings, Long, Barnes, Lowton. Lowton for me is the best right back at the club, his total exclusion from the squad is a weird one, he would be in the 11 for me.

It is if we continue to not play at least one of our big lads against teams like SU. At least have McNally or Long on the bench.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 12:03 pmPossibly, I think we have cover in Taylor and McNally, Long but I agree it probably is a weak area
Re: January Window
In Central Defenders we have to my knowledge:
- THB (Loan)
- Beyer (Loan)
- McNally
- CJ
- Long
- Taylor
So that's 6 players to cover 2 positions? So I'd find it unlikely we'd sign another CD unless we were to lose one of the above, possibly Long or a loan recall.

A goalie.. For all kinds of reasons..... And a centre forward
Re: January Window
It wouldnt surprise me if we didnt try for Macauley Langstaff at Notts County as a punt, sounds like he's banging them in for fun there
Re: January Window
I’d like to see out:
Barnes (retire/coach/sell)
Lowton (sell)
Norris (sell)
Brownhill (forced sale)
Peacock Farrell (sell)
Roberts (sell)
Long (new 5 year contract to help him transition into coaching)
I’d like to see in:
Heaton (backup and coaching role)
Central Midfielder (Dan Neil)
Right back
Left back
Number 10
Strikers X 2 Obafemi as one (1)

Re: January Window
Apart from the fact that we've spent tend of millions paying down debt and ALK have shown no previous interest in the January Window before. It's also poor value window hard to buy or sell players etc. but if we are to luxuriate in fantasy then I would go for a back up for Jay Rod...

Cameron Archer on loan from Villa possibly?
Re: January Window
Good shout, depends on Dervisoglu I guess. Can’t see us signing a 6th loanee.
Re: January Window
Rumour has it Everton are looking at trying to nick THB in January by buying him from City ...
Re: January Window
Agree a centre forward, but one who has the ability and physical presence to also defend set pieces.

Re: January Window
I'm not certain we will bring too many in providing Scott Twine overcomes whatever it is that is preventing him from playing and our Loanee's aren't recalled.
Should any of the old guard leave, Lowton, Long, Barnes, JBG or Westwood, I think we would need a couple in to keep the numbers healthy.

Re: January Window
Central defender. A big strong cultured centre half that THB could learn from by playing alongside. How much we have to spend will be the limiting factor.
I'd like to see us have another look at O'Hare.
And I'd love to see an instinctive goalscorer.
I'd like to think come January and we are right in the mix that Mr Pace sees the potential and free's up some cash.

Re: January Window
If everyone gets fit we don’t need anybody other than another centre forward in the JRod mould (although ‘oggy’ might yet prove good enough). As we saw against Sheffield United this team needs a forward that can drop, link up play and bring our midfield and wingers into the game which means we dominate possession and play in the opponents half. A fast in behind centre forward a la Andre Gray would not work in this team. Strangely Weghorst probably would.
