When we were kids back in the 60s we had a dog, a 57er. One year we went on holiday to Butlins and left the dog with our grandparents who lived on Russell Street in Burnley Wood, we lived on Gordon Street in Stoneyholme. One day the dog got out from our grandma’s house and ran off. They searched all over the place but couldn’t find it. On the off chance they went over to our house in Stoneyholme and found it sat on the doorstep. It had made its way all across Burnley on its own.

I'd be impressed with a human that can find a police station that's open, let alone a dog!

Playing football for the school on a saturday morning,my friend who was not playing came along to watch, and brought his 12 year old dog,we travelled by bus approx 8 miles to barrowford. During the game my mates dog went awol.We were distraught wondering where it could have gone, and searched for an hour around the area. The dog was his dads pride and joy so to tell him the dog was gone was not what he was looking forward to.
When we got back his mum said the dog had be home an hour...... Found its way back home through nelson from barrowford, when it went by bus.
bloody amazing, they are cleverer they we give them credit for.

We had an Airedale Terrier. They're supposed to be intelligent.
One day she escaped from our garden and we couldn't find it. A couple of hours or so later a neighbour a few houses up the road said it had got into her garden and couldn't find its way out again.
Perhaps they only have the intelligence of their owners!

When I was a kid, we went on holiday to the South of France for a fortnight and left the family dog with our gran. One day, at the start of the second week, I opened the holiday cottage door and there he was, barking and jumping all over me.
Then I noticed our gran and her car. I had forgotten that our parents had said she was going to drive down and stay with us after our first week. However, she wasn't supposed to bring the dog, but he had hidden himself inside one of the car tyres. Now how clever is that.
