Early team news rumours suggesting a 4-3-3 to be played:
Pickford, Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Rice, Mount, Bellingham, Saka, Sterling, Kane
Don’t mind it but Foden must be knocking on the door, Mount and Sterling could consider themselves fortunate, given their poor league form.

Gideon should be in every England team. He’s a one off talent. Madness if he doesn’t start.

How Mount continues to get selected for Chelsea and England blows my mind.
I like that team, just swap Foden for Mount and your laughing

With the games coming so thick and fast, and with barely a week since the last premier league games, then we need to be playing the lads in form
Oh, and we get that some of you don't like Southgate, its not 100% essential to put it on every thread

I’m glad he’s starting trippier and Saka both lads in good form.

Mount and Foden are different players. Mount is best through the middle, Foden out wide and coming in at the far post.
Bellingham should be our ball carrier now and Mount nowhere near on current form.

We should be building our squad around Foden, Bellingham, Saka and Rice - everything else (bar Kane for this tournament) can be up for debate, but not those four. They are the next ten years of the England national team.
Sterling has delivered goals, if not performances, at major tournaments but he has been gash for Chelsea. I’d have rather given Rashford a go off the left of Kane with his recent form.

Kane up top with Sterling Foden and Saka making up the front four. It really is a no brainer.

Southgate picks the players he knows and trusts, that have played well together countless times before, rather than just throwing together whoever is playing well in the PL at the moment.
It’s worked well in the last 2 tournaments so no complaints from me.

Agree with this.
They’ve had one weeks preparation, rather than the usual 3-6 weeks prior to a tournament.
They aren’t going to work on new formations/players in that time so sticking with what they know

Not sure selecting Foden (all that's being discussed here) over either Sterling/Mount is that radical to be fair.

Saka, Sterling and Bellingham are too similar imo. I’d swap Sterling for Foden and that looks the best 11 for me. Foden can be the difference against packed defences which we’ll have to get through in these 3 group games.

Mount has a reputation of being a manager’s dream - a versatile and intelligent player who carries out instructions to a tee. Sterling offers the pace in behind Kane which is vital for this England team. Leaving out Foden isn’t particularly controversial but like Grealish in the last tournament there has to be an omission for the English public to moan about.

Foden and Mount were **** in the Euros, Sterling was the best player. It's not surprising Southgate would prefer Sterling to either of those 2, given the performances of Sterling under GS.

If he plays Sake and Stirling wide and Lane plays deep, who is going to be in a position to score goals. He did that against Poland. We shall gave to wait and see the team and tactics, but with this manager anything is possible

Think he's picked a 'safe' team again - no huge complaints, but he can never say he picks players on form.
Sterling was out of form pre-euros as well and ended up being our best player so think he's earned the right to have a couple of games here

Southgate’s just a bell end. A failed manager who’s gotten lucky with easy teams in tournaments.
He seems more interested in pushing certain agendas than anything else which makes him more of a bell end.
Can’t wait until he gets sacked

Not much creativity in that midfield that I can see, a lot on Bellingham's shoulders to provide the guile.
Maguire is fortunate to retain his place as although he was immense in the Euro's his form for club and country has been dreadful for months.
Hoping for a routine England win today, but make no mistake this is a potential banana skin first up.

Foden has massively disappointed for England, especially if you compare his performances for City. But I don't blame Foden for that. He isn't being utilised properly. He's a phenomenal footballer, and will no doubt be a multiple Ballon D'Or nominee, and probably even make top 3 or better at some point.
But Southgate relies on safety. Defensive set up. Players that have worked for him before. And I think that has been his downfall in the past (we have only beaten 1 good team in the major finals), and will be now.
But our squad has some excellent players in there. Good enough for Semis or better. But when you set up as Southgate does, you won't get the best our of them.
Just think, would Pep or Klopp play the same XI as Southgate? I very much doubt it...

Foden played quite well in England's first game in the Euros against Croatia, he was unlucky with a shot coming back off the post.
In the 2nd game against the Czechs he picked up a booking in the 2nd half. Southgate subsequently left him out of the next group game to avoid him getting another booking and a 1 game ban which meant he would have missed the Germany game.
Saka played instead and was outstanding and so retained his place against the Germans.
Foden suffered a serious foot injury in training which restricted him to just a few minutes in the semi final and ruled him out of the final.

I don't think I've seen Foden have a great game for England yet and I'm a big fan of his. Do we just keep picking him based on his Man City form and hoping he'll turn it around for England? or do we pick the players who perform the best in an England shirt?

He's telling me that there's a very significant rent-a-crowd operation going on...much of which was in evidence at the opener last night, and will be used to bolster the seeming supports at various games...
