Is it possible to get back from United away via public transport. Last train and last bus back to Burnley is an hour after full time but Old Trafford is a good walk from the centre.

Is anybody else doing it, if so how?

The game may go to penalties as well. Not sure I'd want to chance it. If I did I'd maybe try walking a decent distance from the ground then getting an Uber. The tram can be a nightmare.

In that case, where’s good to park?

You’ll be lucky to get back in time. Plenty of buses and trams but they’re very busy after a match.

I was thinking of parking at Bury and getting the tram in from there if there's no viable full public transport way.

As long as no penalties you will easily make the last train or bus.
Last time with the 8 15 ko we didn't want to risk it so got the tram to Bury, but would have made both if we hadn't arranged a lift.
The extra 15 minutes should make it easy.

I park on Ordsall Lane Zlatan - there’s free parking there if you get there early enough but I typically pay in one of the numerous paid car parks.

About a 15 minute walk from there, across Trafford Rd & the red bridge.

I know a great free parking spot 30 minutes walk to the ground but not telling you lot

If you're relatively fit you could probably walk back into the city for 11.

There are busses outside the ground on Chester Road that take you in to town. If you leave early-ish they run pretty much from the full time whistle. I did this for the game we won when JRod scored and got the last X43 but you do have to get out early and leg it.

I’m going with the kids this time so I’m not fancying taking the risks. Hoping there will be some coaches back to Rossendale put on. That or I’ll have to drive but that spoils the fun!

Also very quick to get out.

Drive out towards McDonalds on Regent Road. From there you can either turn left towards M602, join M60, or I go right and around Trinity Way to Bury New Rd or Cheetham Hill Rd.

Tbf even if you make it back to Victoria for 11 there's probably only a 50/50 chance the train is actually running.

We got the tram back to Piccadilly and changed there to Bury.
We went past Victoria about 5 to 11.

There should be earlier trams to jump on though with the earlier k.o.

How can it be so difficult to get home from what is a fairly local game in a major city in 2022. There should be buses/trams and trains galore when 70,000 people depart one location simultaneously.

I’m hoping the X43 may run some extra busses?

The only time I drove to Old Trafford, I parked within sight of the stadium, on a local road, across a green area. That's all I can remember. It was free.

OT is easy and never a problem. I park for free off the A56 in Stretford minutes from the M60 and am normally back home 30 miles away within the hour from leaving the stadium.

Hassle free going with Accy Clarets but I doubt you wouldn't arrive home before 1am, and public transport is a complete unreliable waste of time

Yes, they run from Manchester at 10:30 (probably miss that one) and 11:00 from memory. Issue is there’s only one bus, probably seating 70 odd, and 7000 leaving OT, plus whatever United fans get it. So I’m hoping they might put extra on under the circumstances.

You'd think with the allocation being so many on a weeknight the club might have stepped in to offer some sort of transport.

Park at the Parkway tram spot just off the M60. Absolutely huge car park which is free. Get the tram and it's 3 stops to Wharfside which is a 5 minute walk from the ground.

And I wouldn't ever hold my breath waiting for the 10o'clock bus to turn up. Not relevant, I know, for this thread but just merely pointing out its unreliability.
