Losing Zaroury in January

As per the title, I’m sure we’ll lose Zaroury for a game or three after the World Cup as he’ll probably be granted a week off, but it also looks likely we will lose Zaroury again in January.

I’m assuming at this point he’ll be available for the FA Cup match at Bournemouth, and be back for the game at Millwall on 28th January, though may not go straight back in.

Hopefully Twine and Churlinov are back fit by then.

Said when he chose them it was going to prove a poor decision for us.

Be interesting to see how clubs react to losing players for another prolonged spell so soon after an enforced WC break.

hasn’t that AFCON been moved to Jan 2024?

Answering myself - we’ll lose him for it next January

Will he still play as many games as Twine during that period? ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist before anyone gets the hump!

If he's away, he could lose his place to Churlinov.

The African Nations Championship is a competition for players based in their home league, a separate competition from the African Cup of Nations.

The tournament in January 2023 is the African Nations Championship, not the African Cup of Nations, which takes place in January 2024.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. So Zaroury won't be eligible to play in the January 2023 tournament.

So we won't lose him then?

Confusing times. It will be pretty poor if they have to play in January 2023 and miss games, so soon after the World Cup. Will be the same for Watford with Sarr and Senegal I take it.

What’s quite worrying is if he’s signed by an African club in the January window and then selected for the African Nations Championship.

Why does he need time off after the world cup, up to now he hasn`t played, if Morrocco are out of it at the next stage he should really be straight back and in against QPR, we will be paying his wages by then so given the fact he won`t have had any competitive football like the rest of the squad bar Roberts he should be playing.
